Discussion: The Diving Bell Vs. The Butter-glider

It's that time of the year again! New episodes begin and this is the place to talk about them! For those of you not familiar, here's the drill: say whatever you want about the episode or the series, discuss, debate, have a good time! Be civil and polite and everything will be great. For those of you who aren't watching the episode or haven't seen it yet be warned that the comments will probably contain spoilers, so read at your own risk! Other than that have fun and enjoy!

And after you watch it feel free to rate it on the episode page.

Also the episode will be up on Adult Swim Video in a week (9/20). However if you can't wait you can purchase it on iTunes for $1.99 or subscribe to all of season four for $24.99.

Quick Publick Update

Along with tonight's premiere, Jackson has a quick update with one quick snippet I'm sure will prove popular:

Speaking of the west coast, I've just returned from a quick, last minute trip to Los Angeles, where I had the pleasure of recording TV's Nathan Fillion for an episode which will air later this season. Despite having a penchant for vaguely sadistic party games, Mr. Fillion was an absolute blast to work with, and it was my pleasure to put myself out of an acting gig by having him replace my uncharismatic scratch track.

Interview And Clips In Wired.com

Continuing the barrage of Venture Bros. news today, Wired.com has an article up which contains all of the following: 1) interview with Jackson & Doc, 2) never before seen screenshots from upcoming episodes and 3) exclusive clip. The clip in particular is pretty good and at least one of the screenshots involves Dean's ass if you're into that sort of thing.

We take all of this crap pretty seriously, and go out of our way to explain the boring intricacies of supervillainy, and how these poor guys can exist inside of that world. It's precious! Jackson and I hold every episode like a white-hot danger-baby and put it up for adoption on your TV with the caveat: "Here, take our child. But seriously, be careful. It might set your couch on fire. Super sorry."

The interview is somewhat spoiler-heavy so read at your own risk!

The Diving Bell Vs. The Butter-glider Preview

Adult Swim has a preview/trailer up for the first episode of the new season of The Venture Bros.. Watch, if you dare!

Preview Clip From First Episode Of Season 4.2

As with season 4.1 it looks like various web sites will have up exclusive preview clips before each episode with Line Boil getting the first clip from 'The Diving Bell Vs. The Butter-glider'. You can check out the clip here if you so desire. Enjoy! Thanks to Hank in the comments for posting this.

The Cult of The Venture Brothers

Venture Bros. fan and LA Weekly writer Liz Ohanesian has written up an excellent little article entitled Doc Hammer, Jackson Publick and the Cult of 'The Venture Bros.' which goes into Jackson and Doc's interaction with fans of the show, especially at conventions like Comic-Con and Dragon*Con as well as how their personalities can be found all over the series.

During the course of the two interviews we did for this story, it became apparent that Doc and Jackson are, in many ways like their characters, chatty, almost in competitive fashion. Doc is the more talkative of the two, but Jackson is quick with the retort. They oftentimes begin to speak over each other, finishing sentences with sharp observations and quirky references. A flippant comment from Doc about firemen calendars leads to a remark from Jackson about Fahrenheit 451 and so on until the conversation leads to Logan's Run. It's a little like listening to nerdy sort-of-villains Henchmen 21 and 24 banter on the show.

It's a good read, so be sure to check it out.

Season 4.2 Schedule Redux

For those of you curious Adult Swim has finally put up the schedule for the remainder of October and it's looking like the first seven episodes of the season will be airing in a row. The final episode, "Operation P.R.O.M.", which is a full hour, is still not scheduled though that will likely change soon. Episodes will also reair four and a half hours after the initial airing instead of the usual four. So for you eastern time folks you can catch each episode at 11:30pm and 4:00am. As always the Mantis-Eye Schedule has been updated to reflect all the changes.

Winning Time Is Here!

And the time to win is now! Okay so remember yesterday when I mentioned 5 Years blah blah blah? It's the update right below this one? Well whatever, regardless that whole ordeal includes weekly giveaways! Giveaways occur every Thursday at noon eastern time (9am pacific) for the next seven episodes! Why only seven, you ask? Because there's something even better for the finale, okay? Just sit tight.

Anyway the weekly giveaways start with a copy of The Venture Bros. season one DVD! All you have to do is enter your name and email and sit back and wait for me to maybe pick you if you're lucky. Each contest will end the following Tuesday at 11:59pm (and 59 seconds), just so there is no confusion (that's 8:59pm pacific, by the way). Thursday at noon until 11:59pm on Tuesday. As with the mini holiday giveaways you need to enter each week! Now go!

Return Of The Five Years or The New Season Begins

In a sort of dual celebration of Five Years of Mantis-Eye (you have probably been ignoring that crest for months now) and The New Season I'm restarting up Five Years of Mantis-Eye with some brand new stuff. What stuff will that be? Well, I'm not going to give it away, but rest assured it will be awesome! At the very least you'll be able to win some free stuff. The giveaways and features will continue throughout The New Season, with at least one giveaway loosely affiliated with each episode and the show in general. Beyond that I'm hoping you'll enjoy at least a couple things, but I won't reveal them just yet. The first one is something I've been sitting on for quite some time and just now finally getting around to putting it together. Stay tuned!

Mantis-Eye New Season Change-o-rama

Quick check-in with you guys in the waning moments of pre-season 4.2. There will be some minor changes to capsules for this season, and I wanted to see what you guys thought of them. Screen grabs and notes will remain unchanged, but the capsule itself will be split into two parts. More on how that split will work in a bit!

I also want to know what you guys want from the site! Obviously discussion threads will make a comeback since they seem to be pretty popular, but what other kind of stuff do you guys want to see from the site for The New Season? Do you want some kind of live chatting, podcasts, videocasts, streaming commentary, video analysis, magic tricks? Post in the comments or on twitter if you've got an idea! I don't know what I'll be able to do but all suggestions are welcome, even if your suggestion is to stick with discussion threads and don't add any other crap! Let me know!

Okay, Venturoos. Here's what ya get for the Extras, at least on the DVD version. I felt it was a little light, but that's just my opinion. Deleted Scenes (as always) - Some are B&W sketches with the dialog, others are animated with the dialog. Ghost in the Pro-Blem - An extended view of the distorted images of events from the Pro-BLEM's point of view. Maybe there are some clues hidden in it if you like frame-by-frame advancing. Maybe not. Sirena Goes Off... - Cristin Milioti ad-libbing way more dialog than the script calls for. Poor Rocco. Promo - Basically the season 7 promo. Maybe there's Easter Eggs to find. I haven't done any extensive searching yet. If anyone finds any feel free to post them here!
