Toy Fare Ventures... to uh, Ventureland?

Rick Marshall, the online editor of Wizard Entertainment, dropped me a line about this article in Toy Fare which has a short commentary on each Venture Bros. episode by Doc, Jackson and even James Urbaniak (how come James gets his last name printed but Doc and Jackson only get firsties? It just seems to work for me...). Anyway, here's a quote because I don't know how to end this update:

James Urbaniak: "Hank has insisted on being Batman, so they're all Star Wars characters except for Hank. In the original script he said, 'I'm Batman' and I said, 'Yes, you're Batman. You're Batman every year.' You'd think you could say 'Batman' and it wouldn't be a rights issue, but I guess the fact that he looked like Batman and saying 'Batman' was too much, so they changed it to 'The Bat,' which I actually think is much funnier."

So go check it out!

Christmas Cookie

Kind of late, but you can download a brand new Christmas present song (you may remember Dr. Girlfriend and the Monarch singing Little Drummer Boy two years ago and the Monarch, 21 and 24 singing Hard Candy Christmas last year) over at Quick Stop Entertainment. This weekend was pretty busy for me, so I haven't had time to check it out yet (and I'm at work now, so I can't give it the proper attention it deserves) but with a name like 'Venture Aid 2006' it promises to be awesome and also full of characters not voiced by Jackson and Doc. Check it out! Thanks to Leo for informing me of this.

Some More Season 2 DVD Info

Many thanks to Anthony Papineau for passing along this link to TV Shows on DVD.com with some nifty info and such about the season two DVD. The two-disc set will contain every episode with commentary from Jackson & Doc (plus special guests) plus some deleted scenes and a tour of the Astro-Base. It'll retail for $30 and of course it's out on this upcoming April 17th. And yes, if you're curious, I will be doing another give away. Aren't I generous?

Satan Builds a Snowman

Also flying bacon. Mmm, bacon. Anyway, if you're interested I have finally written up the notes for Showdown at Cremation Creek, part II. The capsule and screenshots were done a few weeks ago but I never announced it here due to the lack of notes. However, I finally got off my ass and did them so now everyone can stop complaining, okay?! Hopefully I will complete season three in a more timely manner, but you never can tell about these things. Anyway, catch you guys later!

Season 2 DVD Info

Over on JP's livejournal, Jackson has made a very informative update on the upcoming season two DVD. What do we have to look forward to? Well, there's commentary for every episode, including some with guests James Urbaniak (Dr. Venture) and Mike Sinterniklaas (Dean Venture), there's some more live action extras as well as a bunch of deleted scenes cut after storyboards and animatic. Sounds excellent. Oh, and it'll be out on April 17th, 2007. Do I smell a new countdown? You bet I do!

It's also worth noting (and Jackson did note it, but it bears repeating) that you can purchase the season one DVD on Amazon.com for a mere $8.99 + shipping. So if you don't have it yet, there's really no excuse unless you somehow lack nine dollars. And if you do lack nine dollars, maybe you should stop reading Venture Bros. web sites and get a damned job you dirty hippy! Seriously.

Season Three News?

If you periodically take a gander at the AS schedule you may have noticed this interesting bit scrawled at the bottom of the most recent one:

What does this mean? Well, 3rd & 4th Q of course means the 3rd and 4th quarter of (I assume 2007), which would be July through December. The number after each show would be the number of episodes ordered (or planned). Yes, that's a '26' after Venture Bros.

So, twenty-six new episodes? Possibly starting late next year? Season three is of course more of a reality than season two was at this point, so a renewal wouldn't be very shocking, however a 26 episode season would be crazy. It's also possible that those 26 episodes could be seasons three and four. Either way we can't say until there's something more official I guess. So just hold onto your butts. Okay? Good.

Christmas Venture-a-thon

According to the Adult Swim programming schedule, on December 25th (which is some holiday if I remember right) season two will be airing in its entirety, preceded by (I assume) Trial of the Monarch and Return to Spider-Skull Island (though episode 12 should refer to Past Tense). So for those of you keeping track that's 15 episodes, or 7.5 hours of Venture in a row. Yes, that's quite a lot. So if you missed season two and don't have anything to do on Christmas night (and let's face it, who does? all the fun parts are done with), then tune in!

Let's Wrap It Up

Okay I have a spare minute, so I'm going to take a suggestion from commenter extraordinaire Doc Kneezy and post up a fresh new Mantis-Poll which asks for your favorite season two episode. I don't know how anyone will decide though, there's been some really great ones. We'll finally see if the episode ranks are accurate at least.

Other than that, feel free to use this article's comments to talk about anything pertaining to season two. You know, what you liked, what you hated, insane speculation, crazy ramblings, bets on how long it will take me to capsule the final episode, whatever. The world is your oyster! Until next time, kids!

This is Halloween

Some awesome e-mail from Josh Browning:

I love the site and everything that you are doing to feed the ugly Venture-Crazed mob.

With Halloween on the way I thought it would be great to do some Venture pumpkins, but unfortunately I was unable to find any stencils. So to help remedy this, I created four of my own. Now I haven't actually used the stencils (I'm just so busy), but I didn't want to just keep them to myself.

Well I think I can speak for everyone when I say "fucking awesome!", right? You can click the thumbnail to view a bigger version and click the little size link below that for the biggest version, which I think is the one you should print. Then cut out the dark areas and use it to make guidelines for your pumpkin.

Anyone who uses these be sure to take some pictures of your Venture-o-lantern and I'll stick them up here. And thanks again, Josh, these are really great.

Cremation Capsule... and Quisp!

Quick note that the Cremation Creek part I capsule/notes/etc are all finished up. I don't know when I'll have the last episode done though as this will be a pretty hectic week for me since I'm moving at the end of it, but I'm sure I'll find some time. Also many, many thanks for everyone who e-mailed me about Quisp, but you are all horribly, horribly wrong.

When 21 is talking about Quisp, he's not referring to the mascot of Quisp cereal, but rather an Aquaman ally and later nemesis named Quisp (or Qwsp before that). Here's a picture of the lovely fellow.

Okay, Venturoos. Here's what ya get for the Extras, at least on the DVD version. I felt it was a little light, but that's just my opinion. Deleted Scenes (as always) - Some are B&W sketches with the dialog, others are animated with the dialog. Ghost in the Pro-Blem - An extended view of the distorted images of events from the Pro-BLEM's point of view. Maybe there are some clues hidden in it if you like frame-by-frame advancing. Maybe not. Sirena Goes Off... - Cristin Milioti ad-libbing way more dialog than the script calls for. Poor Rocco. Promo - Basically the season 7 promo. Maybe there's Easter Eggs to find. I haven't done any extensive searching yet. If anyone finds any feel free to post them here!
