Noodle Soup News and... toys?

Venture news? You bet! First on the agenda, the current issue (#95) of ToyFare has a section about Cartoon Network. I searched around a bit for a copy to see for myself, but I came up empty. Here's a small blurb of interest from the ToyFare website:

We go behind-the-scenes at our favorite network, to find out what’s coming up in all our favorite shows: Teen Titans, Justice League, and the entire Adult Swim lineup! This feature is jam-packed with interviews, insights and even…Venture Brothers toys?!

So, with that in mind I (finally) threw together a new poll which asks which Venture Bros. action figure pack you'd buy. So many choices, I can't even decide!

In news I'm way late reporting, it seems VB's production house Noodlesoup has expanded. Thanks to Animation HQ for this news:

Noodlesoup Productions is set to begin pre-production on 13 new episodes of the Venture Bros. soon. Perhaps to that end, the studio recently signed 3D director/animator Doug Johnson and 2-D director/animator Chris Siemasko. Unfortunately, no date was given regarding when the new episodes may premiere.

Might we be seeing some nifty 3D stuff in season two (akin to Futurama or Invader Zim)? I hope so, but that's just speculation on my part. Either way it's good to know things are going smoothly.

Polls and Scheduling and Encyclopedias

Happy Mother's Day, all you mothers! Last week's poll was a squeaker, with the winner coming out by only a single vote. I haven't put up a new poll just yet, so you can still see the results by clicking 'Mantis-Poll'. Or that link you just read.

In scheduling news, tonight's airing of Dia de los Dangerous! at 12:30am will be the last time VB airs in that timeslot. Starting next Sunday it gets shifted back a half-hour to 1am to make room for reruns of American Dad. The Thursday timeslot will not change.

And finally, I've added some new and also interactive content. A bonafied Venture Bros. Encyclopedia! Right now it only has a small number of entries, which is where I call on you folks to help out! You can submit your own entries, pending my approval of course. So get to it, kids, and let's make the best, and uh, only so far, damned Venture Bros. Encyclopedia on this here internet thingy!

What Happened to Past Tense?

New poll up. I picked thirteen quotes from the series so far (13 of my favorite one-liners), so now go vote for the one you like best!. The last poll went resoundingly to Dr. Girlfriend who got nearly triple the votes of the runner up, the Monarch.

In show-related news, you may have noticed that Past Tense has not been aired for a long time (11/30/04 was the last time, to be specific). This is (most likely) because the design of the Lesliebots which are inspired by the design of Hajime Sorayama's sexy robot women. According to a comment left by Jackson on his journal, he says nobody is in trouble, but the Cartoon Network lawyer-types want to play it on the safe side and either get permission or change the designs (whichever is less expensive I presume). There's a small blurb here on the AS boards, but I couldn't find much else. Hopefully things will get sorted out and they can start airing that episode, because it really is quite a good one.

James Urbaniak is Thom Pain

I'm pretty sure this was mentioned in Jackson's journal, but for those of you in the NYC vicinity, you might consider checking out Thom Pain, a one-man play starring none other than James Urbaniak (the voice of Dr. Venture). Shayne Weyker was nice enough to send me a link to an audio interview (scroll down a bit and click the Thom Pain link) with James. It's sort of hard to not think of Dr. Venture when you hear his voice, but the play sounds very cool. If anyone sees or has seen it, be sure to post a review in the comments.

Poll Results

Quick update for, uh, no reason really. The first Mantis-Poll ended on the 14th with a modest number of votes. Tag-Sale, You're It was far and away the favorite with 14 votes. Trial of the Monarch got second with 9 and The Incredible Mr. Brisby and Ghosts of the Sargasso tied for third place with 7 votes each. You can view the final results here.

I put up another slightly less obvious poll, but still it's pretty standard stuff. That is which villain would you like to see more of in the upcoming season. And, for anyone who votes for Dr. Girlfriend, when I say 'see more of' I don't mean it that way, you sicko! You know who you are. Be sure to catch Are You There God, It's Me Dean tonight at 12:30am eastern too.

Jackson and Doc Speak... In Color!

Hey, how about an update with some actual content and not just a lame poll? Over at Adult Swim.com, in specific in the webcam section (thanks again to LFV for pointing that out) is a video interview with those crazy Doc and Jackson guys 'reacting' to the greenlighting of season two. It's actually pretty funny to think that they already knew about the news two weeks or so prior to the news, so it's not really a reaction, but still high quality entertainment at its finest. Laughtastic, if you will.

In more boring news, I made another theme for the site yesterday. Check it out in the settings if you will (it's called Skull Logo Plus Red).

Update: 12:12am on April 13th (in the most technical sense) - Transcription of that interview is ready, if you so desire to read what you see: check it.

It's Pollering Time

Well hello there! Long time, no see, eh? Like I said, updates won't be as frequent, but I will be bringing in some offseason content every so often, so keep your eyes peeled on these pages. I recommend using the RSS feed so you don't have to check back here every day (though you are welcome to do that if you want). I've also enabled LiveBookmarks for this page for all you FireFox users which, according to the site stats, account for about 30% of you.

Anyway, today's content is the new polling php I promised, complete with a poll! The question of the week is the obligatory 'favorite episode' question. So click here and vote! It's a tough one, I know, but you can do it! Also if you find any bugs with it, be sure to tell me so I can fix it.

Not Much To Report On

Don't have too much to update about on this fine April night. Jackson Publick updated his LJ a couple days ago with a teaser image of sorts for season two. Other than that, uh not much news. As for this site, I've been working on a poll script, so I'll be putting up some polls for favorite episode, character and all that sort of lame jazz over the offseason which should keep the page from stagnating. Other than that, not much to report on. Be sure to see Sin City this weekend. I know I will!

Here Comes Season Two!

Alright, now that season two is official, Mr. Publick has a few things to say. Mainly that they'll begin writing shortly and animation will begin after they have around 4 to 6 scripts done. If all goes well, season two should be on your TV screen sometime in early 2006. That's not set in stone of course, but it's nice to have a landmark.

So, now what? With possibly a full year before a new episode there won't be much show-related news now that the most important news of all has happened, and I sure won't have to write up any capsules or take any screenshots. I'll continue to tweak the site of course, and I always welcome comments/complaints/suggestions and all that fun stuff or you can always post stuff in the comments. I'll try to wrangle up some content every once in a while as well and I'll continue to track the show ratings as well.

Speaking of which, AS is doing some shuffling with the Sunday schedule, but it doesn't seem it will affect Venture Bros. reruns which will continue to be shown at 12:30am on Sunday. Instead of Family Guy after Robot Chicken you'll get an episode of ATHF and Tom followed by whatever remaining episodes of Sealab there are.

Enjoy the weekend.

Season 2!!!

That was fast. Press release!

By Anne Becker -- Broadcasting & Cable, 3/24/2005 2:19:00 PM

“Adult Swim,” Cartoon Network’s male-skewing late-night programming block, will debut five original series and four new pilots in 2005.

The block, which held its upfront at New York’s Altman Building on Thursday, March 24, will premiere 15 half-hour episodes of The Boondocks, a series based on Aaron McGruder’s well-known political comic strip, in October. Actors Regina King and John Witherspoon will lend their voices to star, with guest voices including Mos Def, Ed Asner and Charlie Murphy. Animated private-eye comedy Stroker & Hoop debuts with six episodes September 4, with six more to follow in November. American Dad joins the block in May; Squidbillies, 12oz Mouse and Perfect Hair Forever all enter the lineup in September.

Pilots for four shows in development will air in October—stop-motion series Moral Orel, live action Saul of the Mole People, CGI-animated Lucy: Daughter of the Devil and flash-animated Minori-Team. The block has also greenlighted 13 new episodes of The Venture Bros., along with a new season of Aqua Teen Hunger Force.

The block, which has posted a 42% jump season to date with viewers 18-34 (averaging 399,000 viewers in the demo between 11 p.m. and 5 a.m.), will begin being tracked by Nielsen as an individual network starting March 28. Its newest performer, Robot Chicken, the Sunday-night stop-motion series from actor Seth Green, has averaged 602,000 adults 18-34 in its four episodes to date—a 91% increase in the demo over its 11:30 timeslot last year.

Hooray for The Toonzone forums! More news as it develops, if there is any more to be had.

Okay, Venturoos. Here's what ya get for the Extras, at least on the DVD version. I felt it was a little light, but that's just my opinion. Deleted Scenes (as always) - Some are B&W sketches with the dialog, others are animated with the dialog. Ghost in the Pro-Blem - An extended view of the distorted images of events from the Pro-BLEM's point of view. Maybe there are some clues hidden in it if you like frame-by-frame advancing. Maybe not. Sirena Goes Off... - Cristin Milioti ad-libbing way more dialog than the script calls for. Poor Rocco. Promo - Basically the season 7 promo. Maybe there's Easter Eggs to find. I haven't done any extensive searching yet. If anyone finds any feel free to post them here!
