More Schedule Stuff

Just a minor correction from the last news item; that breakfast is actually this Wednesday, not last. Last Wednesday was just the RSVP for it. Also keep in mind there's no real guarantee that there will be any AS announcements at it anyway. Also apparently AS will be airing Venture Bros. Thursdays at 1:30am (and again at 4:30am as is the custom), though it appears it will just be a rerun of the episode played on Sunday. Still, they're starting it at the beginning of the season, so if you missed any episodes the first couple runs (or you're just getting into the show), you have two chances every week to catch up. That's it for now.

Capsule Notes

Sorry, no news of any sort yet, but as I said, CN's got that breakfast thing tomorrow, though it's possible that they won't be making any AS announcements at it (they didn't last year).

What I want to take a second to do is mention some of the cool stuff people have sent in. Lots of people have e-mailed me with info to add to the episode capsules and I just want to point a couple of them out:

- Doug Nelson sent in some guitar tablature for Look Away, the song at the end of 111.
- 'Zonerunner' was kind enough to send me some info on Hajime Sorayama for episode 112.
- Bryan Hornschu sent me a buttload of great info on Led Zeppelin which I added to the notes for 104.

Aside from that I've gotten lots of suggestions and compliments from others, and that's been quite awesome. So thanks to all you people out there. Buy yourselves something pretty.

As for show news, the ratings for last Saturday's airing of Return to Spider-Skull Island were quite nice with 517k viewers. Sadly, Sunday's showing of Trial of the Monarch didn't place in the top three (most likely due to the fact that it was on the Saturday before that), but still this is the sixth time the show has gotten over 500k viewers on the weekend.

Super Bowl Schedule Stuff

There's a nice lull in news and updates between seasons, and we're still at the beginning of it. Anyway, tonight's episode will be Dia de los Dangerous! airing at 11:30pm EST. Tomorrow night will also have the airing of Return to Spider-Skull Island at 11pm EST, but it's quite likely the Super Bowl will still be on at that point. However if it's over by 11pm (or you aren't watching it), be sure to switch the channels and get everyone at the party or gathering you may or may not be at to watch it.

This weekend is also the end of VB's early-night weekend run. The Sunday slot will be given back to Family Guy, and VB will no longer air on Saturday. However it will still be shown at 12:30am EST on Sunday (which is really Monday if you want to be technical). It is of course good news that AS continues to air VB, which attests to its popularity.

Finally, I heard it through the forum-vine that CN's annual up-front breakfast will be held on February 9th. This is where they announce all the news for the upcoming year, though AS had a separate one last year, so it may be a moot point. That's all for now and enjoy the show tonight.

Jackson Speaks on Season 2

I suppose it's my obligation to tell you, but most likely if you read this page you already read Mr. Publick's journal. However, in case you missed it, he updated it. Lots of good reading there, as well as yet another more-or-less confirmation of season two:

So...do we have a second season or what? Here's the thing about that: you don't just get a call one day saying "go...make a second season." It's a process. Interest is expressed, research is done, and ultimately a budget has to be met. So, if we dot all our i's, cross all our t's and get a budget and schedule together, we will be making a second season of The Venture Bros.. If we don't...well, then more discussing has to be done, more number crunching, etc. Everyone wants it, it's just not official until it's official, hence no official announcement.

So there you go, these things just take time, but, as you probably know, it will happen.

More Ratings and Stuff

Looks like last weekend was the anti-two weekends ago. The ratings for the entire weekend are actually downright perplexing, because neither of the lead-in shows were rated in the top three (VB on Sunday, Futurama on Saturday). Still, last Saturday's airing of Trial of the Monarch got 365k viewers, scoring 3rd place. Also, AS continues to skirt the renewal issue with a bump tonight stating that they still don't know if they're going to greenlight season two.

Oh yeah, I should also mention that you can now download some VB mp3s from adult swim.com. Included are the death theme from 111 as well as the opening and closing themes for the show.

Behind the Scenes with Doc Hammer

GCI Who says you need Jackson Publick for behind the scenes info? Now you can get some from Doc Hammer too, along with a nifty image to boot:

Jackson has come to save these little graphic jobs for me to do. Why? Because I am a nut who will spend way too much time on it, and do it for free. If I don't do it, I see the results of a little gem in the making left in the hands of an overworked animator, and I flip-out, like a child... "Ahhh, come on! It should be way more cool than that!" So I do it myself. You guys will never understand how much little pieces of shit Jackson and I have to do ourselves... Thankless crap. Yet... It's worth it. Isn't it? We think so.

The image provided is the cover of the Guild of Calamitous Intent Handbook which appeared in episode 110 and also 113 I think. And we thank you Doc Hammer. Ha, it's not thankless any more! Much thanks to livingfruitvirus for finding that.

Comments!

Go Team Comments! I spent the last couple of days writing and testing a comment system for the site, with much thanks to the guy who hosts the site, who also happens to be named Mike. Anyway, you can sign up for an account and then log in and stuff and then post comments by either clicking on the news date or the link on the right that says the number of comments. This is still a beta, so if you happen to find a way to break it, I'd really appreciate it if you told me about it so I could fix it. They're pretty limited right now, but in the future I hope to expand upon it. Enjoy!

Oh right, the update everyone has been linking to the last day or two (thanks very much for that by the way) about season 2 is right below this one. If you want to link directly to it you can use this link.

Season Two Greenlit?

First off I just want to say thanks to all the people who e-mailed me with kind words about the site. I love you guys! One e-mail in particular was, however, especially relevant to the topic of season two. My prior source (and I assure you that I have a legit source; I'm not just making stuff up) is reliable and I have no reason not to believe him, but two sources, well, you can't put a price on that. Here's that e-mail:

I participate in a professional graphics group (AIGA) and last Thursday Ed Murrieta, creative director of Cartoon Network, gave a presentation to our local chapter (there's a write-up here: http://southcarolina.aiga.org/). Asked point-blank, he confirmed that VB season 2 is a go! (VB also happens to be his favorite show).

So now we have some confirmation (albeit second hand) right from one of the high-ups at Cartoon Network. Cartoon Network normally holds off new show announcements until February, so you can expect an official announcement in the next couple of weeks, most likely after the show finishes its Sunday at 11pm run (which ends on the 4th).

Venture Bros. Rules the Weekend!

Wowza. Sitting through Super Milk Chan has finally had some payoff. Ratings for last weekend follow:

Highest Rated Adult Swim
Programs Saturday 1/15/05
[Viewers 18-34]

Venture Brothers 656,000
Fullmetal Alchemist 570,000
Futurama 522,000
Highest Rated Adult Swim
Programs Last Sunday
[Viewers 18-34]

Venture Brothers 463,000
Harvey Birdman 427,000
ATHF 421,000

I have also heard from a reliable source that season 2 has, in fact, been greenlighted (greenlit? neither is a word according to my spell checker) and the crew is already working on it. This whole thing with 'it's up to you!' was just a clever ploy by adult swim to build hype. Well played, you devious miscreants. No official word as of yet of course, but it's safe to stop sending death threats and anthrax to Cartoon Network now.

We Hate Fox

Update over at Publick. Apparently those adverts that were supposed to play on Fox will no longer be playing on Fox. So thanks for nothing Fox.

But on a good note, Jackson promises good things VB-related things are to come tonight, including the ratings for last weekend's showings, and perhaps more? Who can tell. I'll be sure to update about the news when it's aired in a few hours, and don't forget to watch tonight's airing of Are You There God, It's Me Dean at 11pm and tell all your chums.

Finally on a site-related note, I'm thinking of adding a simple comments section to the site so you could post your thoughts on each update or the show in general, but I think that the lack of comments would just make me sad. But if you think it's a good or bad idea tell me about it, and we shall see.

Okay, Venturoos. Here's what ya get for the Extras, at least on the DVD version. I felt it was a little light, but that's just my opinion. Deleted Scenes (as always) - Some are B&W sketches with the dialog, others are animated with the dialog. Ghost in the Pro-Blem - An extended view of the distorted images of events from the Pro-BLEM's point of view. Maybe there are some clues hidden in it if you like frame-by-frame advancing. Maybe not. Sirena Goes Off... - Cristin Milioti ad-libbing way more dialog than the script calls for. Poor Rocco. Promo - Basically the season 7 promo. Maybe there's Easter Eggs to find. I haven't done any extensive searching yet. If anyone finds any feel free to post them here!
