VB Off The Air... For Now

A moment of silence please. This Sunday's airing of Past Tense will be the last airing of Venture Bros. for... I don't know, probably a while. New episodes of 12 Oz. Mouse and reruns of Sealab will be taking over the 12:30am timeslot. But don't be sad, kids, Venture Brothers had a good run. It's been shown at least once a week since it began airing over a year ago, and don't forget it will be returning in mid-2006 with a brand new season, and a DVD release in March.

Past Tense Returns

For those of you who have been paying attention to the Venture Bros. schedule, you may notice that Past Tense is back in the rotation. It'll be shown October 9th (the 10th if you want to be technical) to I assume much fanfare. Apparently all the legal issues with the design of the robots (you can read more about that in the episode notes) have been sorted and the episode will air unedited.

In unrelated news, Kevin Brown was nice enough to point out an update at Brendon Small's page:

You might hear my voice in a few episodes of the new season of VENTURE BROS. (a very great show that you should check out if you haven't) but it was a real pleasure doing that.

So there you go. Also enjoy tonight's Friday Night Fix, which I presume will be showing Careers in Science, but don't quote me on that.

Tons of Season Two News. Tons.

Some news to be had over at Publick Nuisance. The usual production journal stuff; episode one and two are in animatic (which means they'll be sent to Korea to be animated soon), the script for episode seven has been handed in, J.G. Thirlwell is on the case with his music-making and making an animated show is apparently a whole lot of work. Also keep in mind that episode seven is actually the first episode that will air, so things are even more out of order than last season.

Also apparently Ben Edlund will be writing a script this season. For those who may not know, Ben is the creator of The Tick, which has thrived in comic and animated form, and unfortunately faltered in live-action form. Jackson was a writer for the animated and live-action Tick series', and is good friends with Ben. Fans of Angel may also be familiar with Ben's work, as he was a writer for that series as well.

Finally, be sure to check out Voucher Ankles, the brand new LiveJournal of the esteemed James Urbaniak, the voice behind Dr. Venture.

Friday Night Fix

Okay, it looks like the Friday Night Fix will be showing Dia de Los Dangerous!. For those of you who want to see some of the more rare episodes, maybe if you bother them they'll put up the Christmas special or Past Tense. Head over to the message boards and give them a piece of your mind! Or you could always use this handy-dandy form if the mood strikes you. Enjoy the weekend!

VB Pilot up on AS.com

Quick update to mention that AS.com, every friday night, will be streaming some shows for you to check out. Tonight, for instance, you can check out the new Birdman episode, some classic ATHF or Space Ghost, and even the Venture Bros. pilot. That's right, if you haven't seen it (and I know many of you haven't), you can go check out the VB pilot over at AS.com. Good stuff.

Season 2 Progress and DVD News

Two updates on the same day! I just felt the need to point that out. The ever articulate Jackson Publick hath updated once again, mentioning the eBay auctions which I mentioned already in the update below this one. Aside from that you get a lot of vague info on the current season (recordings by Brendon Small and Jon Benjamin of Home Movies fame are complete), and a bit of extra DVD news:

On the DVD front, I'm told the official release date is officially March 14, 2006 now. It will be a 2 disk set. Due to space limitations inherent in the format, we won't be doing commentary on ALL the episodes, but we are hoping to cover at least a few of them, possibly as many as five. Trust me, you don't want to hear either or both of us babble for seven hours anyway...

So there you go; official DVD release news! Also the season premier script is being worked on, so if my knowledge of the animation industry is accurate, that episode should be completed sometime in May or June, which should give you a rough idea of when the new season will begin. That's all for now folks!

Storyboard Auctions for Cancer Research

Hey, remember those eBay auctions for VB storyboard art Jackson was talking about in his last update? Well those were actually put up three days ago. You can check them out here. Each one starts at $50 (except for one drawn by Jackson, which is $100) and is signed by Jackson Publick and VB storyboarder Doug Lovelace. These are really great pieces of show memorabilia, and don't forget that the money goes towards The Lance Armstrong Foundation for Cancer Research (though it's not mentioned on the auction pages). So go grab one if you have the cash to spare. Many thanks to Havocware for noticing this.

New Poll... Whee!

Okay I don't really have anything to update about, but I was revamping the polling system (mainly on my side of things, so I can actually edit them now), and in honor of this occasion I created a new poll! The questions asks what you think the boys are (clones, robots... something else?!). Nobody knows, but maybe we'll find out next season! Or maybe not.

Season Two Continues Production

And now, some news. Publick Nuisance has been updated with more ramblings as well as more production info on season two. Just to give some idea on how it's shaping up, read this and be in awe:

The character/prop and background design teams are just finishing up their work on episode 4. Among other things, they've had to bring Egypt, Paris, the South Pacific, the New York subway and Spider-skull Island to life--along with countless henchmen, villains, soldiers, Indians, spies, goth girls, innocent bystanders and heroes--all while refining the Venture compound (they have a pool, a bathroom and a study now!) and many of our pre-existing characters.

I think it's safe to say season two is going to kick a huge amount of ass. There's also some news on the DVDs, guest stars and just a ton of other information that might make your head explode, or at the very least cause a minor headache. The good kind though.

Minor site news, sometime in the coming days or weeks I'll have a slight redesign for the site. Just a few kinks to work out, but it's coming along. That was kind of anti-climactic after the rest of the update. Sorry.

Update: [6:36pm] Okay that was quick. Head over to the settings and select the 'new design' theme if you don't already see it.

The Paintings of Doc Hammer

Do you love art? Do you love Doc Hammer? If you answered yes to those questions (and shame on you if you answered no to the second one), then this may be for you!

If you can read this, you are invited to the big-assed opening.

October 6th 2005 (like around 6:00pm or so...)
Arcadia Fine Arts
51 Green Street, (SOHO) New York, NY

Have fun, pack the place, be nice, shake my skinny little hand, meet my friends, get a fat eyeful of my paintings, do your lame Dr. Girlfriend impersonation at me, marvel at my hair and fine taste in clothing, listen to me prattle on about paint... The works.

More info here. You know you want to go. You could use some culture in your life anyway. Don't deny it.

Okay, Venturoos. Here's what ya get for the Extras, at least on the DVD version. I felt it was a little light, but that's just my opinion. Deleted Scenes (as always) - Some are B&W sketches with the dialog, others are animated with the dialog. Ghost in the Pro-Blem - An extended view of the distorted images of events from the Pro-BLEM's point of view. Maybe there are some clues hidden in it if you like frame-by-frame advancing. Maybe not. Sirena Goes Off... - Cristin Milioti ad-libbing way more dialog than the script calls for. Poor Rocco. Promo - Basically the season 7 promo. Maybe there's Easter Eggs to find. I haven't done any extensive searching yet. If anyone finds any feel free to post them here!
