Me and another user (Destroyo) totally called the Monarch's Dad/Vendatta/Blue Morpho being a hero/villian/antihero and that being his underground base last week.
Shameless, 'I was right' plug over.
Anyway, all the pieces are falling into place. This episode revealed quite a bunch but also setup a ton. Wide Wale is definitely trying to get rid of the Monarch and ruin his marriage. The nano-tech and how it affected and poor, poor Dean... hilarious/genius it got in through his ass... but at least it got him into college in the end. Pun intended. And Huss was great as the clever and nefarious Copy Cat!
Soo much more to say... but I'm getting sleepy now.
Wow. Another gem. Thanks Jackson! Feb. 15, 2016, 12:38am

Next prediction: the nanobots will return. Remember, these inventions were all FLAWED projects in some way. Self-aware/self-replicating goo that gives you superpowers might trigger the Venom parody someone mentioned. Plus, we have two nebbishy college characters that might want some self-improvement, Dean is already on a health kick and Brown Widow may subconsciously want personal revenge against a certain red, white, & blue cross-dressing "hero".
If Prof. Impossible examines this tech, we will definitely get the reference to the "black suit saga" storyline from the original Spiderman run. Reed Richards was the one who figured out how to remove the symbiote once it had bonded to Peter Parker. Feb. 16, 2016, 3:20pm

I'm pretty sure there are eight, but I think Jackson & Doc mostly have just gotten really good at cramming stuff into episodes. Everything is so dense but somehow manages to not be too confusing. They can also continue to answer questions since they are simultaneously bring up new mysteries so there's always a reason to watch. Pretty good stuff!
Feb. 15, 2016, 2:55pm
Another winner. Lots of great stuff, very funny.
A couple of things- anybody else think the nanobots were going to be a symbiote? Could've set up a whole Venom thing with Brown Widow.
Also, that Copycat guy (the Dean Martin type)- for a minute, I thought he was going to be a shape-shifter (possibly the Sovereign incognito) instead of a duplicator. But what's his angle on Dr. Mrs. Whatever-She's-Calling-Herself-Now?
And how is Hank and Sireena's (pretty sure that's how the credits spelled it) relationship going to go? I mean, that was a pretty Marty McFly move Hank did at the end but he's not exactly endeared to Wide Wale or his Whale Lice.
This has definitely been the most interwoven season yet. Feb. 15, 2016, 12:37am

I loved that episode, particularly the scenes involving Hank and Serena (spelling?). It would have been so easy for Jackson to write her as conventionally charming and demure, but it's much more interesting--not to mention, much funnier--to write her as a foul-mouthed, bratty, Jersey type. I think I like her more now that her rough edges have been revealed.
And how great was it when Hank reappeared in the mag-lev thing after jumping off the building? He looked genuinely cool, which is something that isn't too easy for a Venture to accomplish. Feb. 15, 2016, 12:59am

Totally. Lots of fun places this relationship can go. One question though: why did Hank need to get a job in pizza delivery? I watched the ep twice so far and didn't catch that. I would have thought that a lot of working capital would just make Hank want to expand HankCo., not take a dead-end entry-level job in NYC. Did I miss something?

Stuyvesant University, if you were wondering, is named after Peter Stuyvesant, the last Dutch director-general of New Netherland, which eventually became part of Manhattan
He was missing the lower part of his leg. The school's motto, according to this week's Shirt Club shirt is "Passus Sum Cum, Ligneo Cruris." This translates to "I have suffered with wooden leg."
If Hank's comment at the beginning about a wooden leg seemed odd to you, as it did me, here's the rationale. Feb. 15, 2016, 1:09am

That line didn't actually bug me until I saw Jackson tweet about this week's shirt, found here:

I was curious about the Latin, and translated it to see what it meant. Then the pieces started to fall into place.
What I'm more interested in, actually, is that Stuyvesant University shares a color scheme with the Guild of Calamitous Intent, and initials with State University, an already established hotbed of guild recruitment.
Or maybe I'm just connecting dots that aren't there. Feb. 15, 2016, 2:19am

Wide Wale is literally Kingpin/Zoidberg/Carl/The Godfather all rolled into one.
He is the best new heavy-hitting villainous character the show has had in seasons.
Lines like: "Krill? Plenty of omega-3." and then he dives into the krill like Zoidberg would.
And...
"Let's see if the good ship Venture is a strong and mighty vessel... b/c she's going on an Nantucket sleigh ride."
And...
"That's the deal... not much to axe--scck?"
Have cemented him as an all time favorite character of mine. Feb. 15, 2016, 2:05am

Possible Logic Flaw/ Me Overthinking: Why didn't J.J. use the nano-bots to cure his cancer? Or at the very least use them to prolong the life function of each failing organ?
Perhaps... he already tried off-screen, right? Or maybe he forgot he had them in that unregulated but finished capacity, filed away and lost in the NYC facility.
Either way, I've been noticing odd logic flaws in the new episodes and always forget to point them out immediately before I forget.
Obviously, these aren't errors... just simple fan conjecture. Feb. 15, 2016, 1:58am

okay, first things first, NOW that photo makes sense! Now that we know the Monarch's Dad was The Blue Morpho, we now know that "Guild BOLO" from the teaser trailer last year was foreshadowing something HUGE! Overall,I was riveted to every scene.
A few things, that Go-Pod looks very familiar, wasn't there some commercial with a similar vehicle recently? Also, the "Mining Mech," who wasn't thinking that looked like a Power Loader from "Aliens?" I was waiting for Billy to scream, "Get away from her, you Bitch!!" when he was using it. Now, I'll be the first to admit it, for a moment, I expected Copy Cat to reveal himself as the Sovereign, I was just waiting for him to scare the bejeezus out of DMTM by shifting faces. I wasn't expecting an Evil member of the Impossibles to be part of the story.
I knew that Wide Whale had something up his sleeve, and I mentioned on the Facebook Group that he knew how to play the Long Con here, and it's clear who the mark is and the goal of the Con. He's going to drive wedge between The Monarchs, then take control of the Council, possibly setting himself up as the New Capo Di Tutti Capi of the Guild, i.e., the new Sovereign!!
I feel bad for the two henchmen who ended up red-shirted by Brock (great metaphor, right?) but give the poor girl a break, all Hank was doing was jogging after a pretty girl, who hasn't done that?? I think this Go-Pod is going to be the new Hovercycle for Hank, at least, aside from the inability to come to a full stop...
One big question, though, where IS Vendata, anyway? As I recall, Brock left him in a broken heap in the bathroom at Don Hell's club. So why didn't anyone find him??? Feb. 15, 2016, 4:26am

To me the Go-Pod looks like a Xingyue IO trike-scooter (e.g. http://motorcycletrikemfr.blogspot.com/2013/07/150cc-three-wheeler-motor-scooter-with.html). Perfect dork-mobile for Hank, even though he did use it to very cool effect in his balcony dive.
Agree totally on the Mining Mech.
Loving all the Green Hornet references with Blue Morpho! And we got to see the original Team Venture before they got Kano. Feb. 15, 2016, 1:34pm

So, so happy right now. Blue Morpho is like the Green Hornet. So fitting for Monarch's dad. I love every bit we've gotten so far of the man's tragic journey from anti-hero to being a Brock-crumpled cyborg in a villainous club toilet. This episode felt like Victor Echo November to me. I think it might be the best one yet this season.

My guess:
Kano was the one piloting the plane that crashed, killing Monarch's parents. Jonas arrived on the scene, tried to save them but it was too late. The son's body was never found.
Taking pity on Kano losing his employer/crime fighting partner, Jonas took him in. Vendata was a failed attempt to reanimate the father (or maybe, for science!). Feb. 15, 2016, 3:54pm

But Kano appeared to be mute even while working for Morpho. The "great man" he killed for which his "silence is [his] penance" could likely have died even before that flashback. This doesn't disqualify the notion that Kano isn't also responsible for both Jonas Sr. and Morpho's deaths, but it's the kind of swerve Doc and Jackson like to throw at us once we get comfortable with a theory.

A few completely random observations/thoughts upon a second viewing of the episode:
1. The Blue Morpho is voiced by none other than Paul F Tompkins. Paul is freaking hilarious and is a very, very talented voice actor. I haven't listened to "The Thrilling Adventure Hour" lately, but I used to love his work on that podcast, particularly the segment he does with Paget Brewster. I'm glad the guys got such a talented guy to voice the Blue Morpho going forward.
2. The Venture comic shown by 21 to The Monarch appears to be published by Gold Key. That's great attention to detail. Gold Key published at least one Jonny Quest special back in the 60s, maybe more.
3. Trump is apparently a "legitimate business associate" of Wide Wale.
4. I liked the little bubble effect that happened every time Copy Cat duplicated himself. I thought he was a cool addition to the Ventureverse crew of villains.
That's all I can think of right now. Feb. 15, 2016, 5:15pm

I understand how it goes, but I do miss the capsules.
Liked the Copy Cat/Dean Martin thing. Not sure that he is working with Wide Wale. Note Sireena watching Jerry Lewis movie.
Billy in a mini- exoskeleton from Aliens, assume all got that.
Whale lice are real, I originally thought the henchmen were supposed to be krill.
Kirby did draw 2 issues of Harvey's Comic Green Hornet early in his career. Think there is more to this, but this is all I can come up with.
Dean asks Brock if they have Candiru in NY, some of us may be mis-thinking means of ingress for the nanobots.
Hope to see Dr O soon Feb. 15, 2016, 6:45pm

I think the Jerry Lewis movie you're referring to is "Follow that Bikini," a fictitious movie referenced by Jackson in a Season 3 or 4 commentary. If memory serves, Jackson had planned a story in which Rusty had a crush on an actress and was traumatized to learn that Jonas Sr--who had served as scientific consultant on "Follow that Bikini"--had nailed her. I'm sure someone else on this board will know which episode's commentary I'm thinking of.
Feb. 16, 2016, 12:18am
I didn't find this episode nearly as funny as the last two, but nevertheless I'm absolutely thrilled by the direction this season's going in, with each episode picking up where the last left off, introducing new elements, and pushing the story arc of the show so much... I love it.

Anyone else remember that the first promo image of season six was Rusty Venture dressed as the Blue Morhpo? And we had that video with Watch & Ward discussing him as a highly dangerous and wanted operative.

I like to think the monarch is the kid actor who played rusty in the old show, cause you see a different bucktoothed kid in a flashback in some episodes.
that would explain him waiting for some cash to settle in (highschool flashback episode, child actor laws), their dads being friends and the monarchs sure rusty knows this, who probably doesnt.
who knows maybe acting it was as traumatizing as for rusty.
by Captain V (unregistered id: BD4F09BE4B)Reply
Seems like the Monarch frames Venture (as the Blue Morpho) and picks off villains ahead of him in line to arch Venture.
I figured it out, yay!

I could be mistaken, but doesn't Rusty get confused (early on) and references his own show as a live-action series? I believe this was done on purpose to show how out-of-touch Rusty really is.
I feel Doc and Jackson have addressed this before in some of the various commentaries. And I know they also discuss how Rusty gets his real life adventures mixed-up with ones from the Rusty Venture show. Feb. 18, 2016, 6:13pm

Some takes of mine:
Did anyone else think that Scaramantula's voice sounded different?
Anybody else spot Donald Trump at Wide Wale's party? I'll bet he's actually a super villain with some hair-raising powers.
I'm betting that Copy Cat's scheme isn't just about making The Monarch look bad but is probably part of a bigger plot by the NY chapter to seize control of The Guild as Wide Wale seemed to be in on what was going on. That was how I saw it anyway.
The funniest part of the episode for me (and there were many funny parts) was where Red Mantle and Redusa were first making out at the party with Dragoon providing commentary. "I think she wants to go all the way". Had me dying!
Also, not sure if anyone else mentioned this but while there is technically no Stuyvesant University in NY there is a Stuyvesant High School which is a college preparatory science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM) focused liberal arts high school. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Stuyvesant_High_School
Oh, and while I'm at it, here's Sylvia Plath - https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sylvia_Plath
Edit: One more. For Barnacle Badhul here's what I got - MA Badhul Haq coauthored a little article entitled "Diseases In The Aquarium Fishes: Challenges And Areas Of Concern: An Overview" printed in the International Journal of Environment. http://www.nepjol.info/index.php/IJE/article/view/9216 Feb. 16, 2016, 7:53pm

Nice job!
I did not think Scaramantula sounded different except maybe that he is younger than in most episodes we have seen him.
Now if Wide Whale blames The Monarch [!--Ed.] for the death of his brother, does he also blame Dr. Mrs. The Whatever She's Called? She is the one who suggested they arch him. Feb. 17, 2016, 9:22am

Good point about Scaramantula. This was earlier than we'd seen before and it still was Toby Huss providing the voice so I'd say you are right.
Also, here's something else to think about. Ol' Jonas was a big name in the super scientist / adventurer racket and yet it seems his nemeses were members of the Fraternity of Torment and NOT the Guild of Calamitous Intent. As the Frat was small potatoes on the super-villainy pie chart one has to wonder.
One other minor thing I just noticed while re-watching the episode for like the 6th time. Wide Wale now has that "golden" mask, which he stole from the Ven-Tech Industries lobby, on display by the main entrance door inside his apartment. Nice continuity. Does the apartment number PH-A mean anything?
Edit: Here's another one. Col. Gentleman remarks "Italian spider bot. If they're engineered anything like your Fiats, then we've naught to worry about". Any of you car enthusiasts probably know that Fiat made a sports car named the Fiat 124 Sport Spider. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Fiat_124_Sport_Spider Feb. 17, 2016, 10:47pm

Holy accidental foreshadowing, Batman! When we first met Kano, we were told he has hands 'large enough to crush a boulder...yet delicate enough to crush a butterfly'.

Random Final Observations:
- This was the highest rated episode of the year (so far) with 1.176 million viewers.
- Blue Morhpo's car must fly... it got to Spider Skull Island.
- The Doctor Venture comic seemingly has no word bubbles.
- 21 can easily overpower the Monarch, as does Wide Wale, and Copy Cat gets the best of him as well. Pretty much... the Monarch sucks at life in this episode.
- Radical Left wears a Revenge Society arm band, to memorialize it no doubt.
- Monarch's wife is listed as "Honey Bunny" in his phones contact information.
- That vile of nano-bots was not very safely stored for something that can activate and operate on it's own volition.
- If Dr. Mrs. gets nude in a bathroom... you bet Dean does too. The duality... of nudality?
- Hank's pizza boss was voiced by veteran Venture Bros. actor, Steven Rattazzi.
- Billy crashes... but Hank can drive that thing (V-Pod) with ease.
- Wide Wale seemingly has his 'score' on display from the raid/looting on the Venture's from the previous episode.
- Brock gives solid advice and often refrences famous literary figures throughout the series.
- The nano-bots were series five, implying J.J. never got them right and stored them.
- Copy Cat kicked the shit outta Hatred... he will eventually become a fan favorite.
- Shippers finally get that long awaited Brock and Dean kissing scenario, regardless of it just being mouth-to-mouth b/c Dean temporarily died. Shippers gonna ship.
- Brock is excellent at immediately identifying Babylonian.
- Kowoozie watts.
- Immediate and almost hidden lightning bolt as the credits start, nice touch!
- Redusa can somehow reverse the shrunken head syndrome. Her head is normal herein, but was shrunken last week.
- Rusty mentions miracles at the end, but he also does briefly towards the beginning.
- Paul voices the Blue Morpho and Doc voices Vendata... hhmm, interesting. I wonder who'll voice the Monarch's Dad normally? If we ever get to hear him normally. Paul?

Cristin Milioti, who voices Sirena, is a Jersey girl from an Italian American family, so that accent is likely not too much of a stretch.
