Yeah, apparently the Ventures' escapades were featured in comics as well as Rusty's Saturday morning cartoon show. Drawn by one of the kings of Silver Age comics, no less!

Well, Kirby actually did do a couple of tie-in series. That's where Machine Man came from, the 2001: Space Odyssey comic.
