A pretty so-so 'sode, if you ask me, but it still had its moments. Was super-glad to see Treister again, and Hader's pulling off a pretty good Colbert. Sorry to see Ghost Robot go. Wasn't expecting Scott Hall, I guess, but the reveal was pretty lame.
Next week looks like a hoot, though. Sep. 26, 2010, 11:59pm

Man, this post really typifies the Venture fandom; unable to get a general consesus on anything, ever.
IMHO, best episode of Season 4, hands down. Gutbustingly funny, extremely busy, oozing with past references and characters. If I didn't have to get up at 6 I'd write more, but damn. Great half hour.
The Kenan & Kel reference made my night, as I'm sure it did for any child of the 90's. Sep. 27, 2010, 12:02am

It's fairly simple:He's always favored dean because he felt he should have been rusty boy adventurer, the wide eyed idealist that could do what doctor venture can't now. But he actually feels bad for hank cause hanks the bad parts of him:The wannabe with women, the guy always trying to be better but failing. that's why he heaps stuff on hank:Cause while he wants dean to be what he never could be, he knows hank can make it.

Uneven but still great. The sheer number of callbacks is mind-boggling! The 80's and 90's ruled this episode. Teddy Ruxpin, Optimus Prime and was that Roger Ebert that Doe and Cardholder shot? Glad to have Toby Huss back. The Doctor Venture subplot sort of fizzled and the ending was a bit sappy.
I'm super excited about next week though. Nikki Nightgown! Sep. 27, 2010, 12:10am

Wow. Just wow. I was wrong. Now while this counts as a semi-tag sale, it's still pretty good. But boy was that one dark. I mean really dark. But also really good, with Hank finding out his dad actually does love him(I was shocked too) and an interesting comparison. As for Scott Hall returning I did not suspect that at all, or sunshines man servant being the golden age equivelent. A very dark, very impressive episode and traster just stole the show. And as for next week, while I think it will be part fantasy, the film noir aspect, I think it will still be fully in contiuity. Kinda like tracer bullet.

A) Mournful tits
B) So glad (the new) Captain Sunshine didn't get any real screen time. I hate that guy.
C) Venture Hover Tank
D) I'm going to give them a proper funeral.
E) Best episode of this season and quite possibly any season. Episode call backs, Scott Hall lives, Billy and White bickering... I have to watch it again Sep. 27, 2010, 12:46am

Hunter: Oh, that poor woman has the SADDEST tits. They're damn depressing.
Brock: Right? Yeah. They're like, the notebook sad.
Hunter: Tits are like "coming home from school and finding out your old man ran over your cat" sad.
Brock: Mournful! She has mournful tits. They're like two suicide notes stuffed in a glitter bra.
Hunter: Those things are like a little kid with Progeria cracking all his ribs trying to catch a Nerf ball. Just sad, dammit she has gloomy tits.
Brock: It's like she put a dollars worth of change in some old socks and then taped them to her chest.
Hunter: I want to build two little caskets and give her tits a tasteful dignified funeral. Sep. 27, 2010, 12:55am

Thank you! Soon-to-be-Classic Venture Dialogue. I had to watch it twice since I was laughing so hard at the "two suicide notes stuffed in a glitter bra" to catch all of the "little kid with Progeria!"
Disagree with you on Capt. Sunshine--he is awesome!
But . .. you know . . . keep him away from my kid!

Bill, I did not notice the maps in the OSI room being backwards, but instead noticed them actually depicting a radically different United States with various strange-sized states. I'm going to have to check it out again on the iTunes tomorrow morning but I haven't noticed anything like that before in past episodes.
Over all this is probably my favorite episode from this season (though I've liked most of them a lot anyway) and is one of of the better episodes of the series overall, considering the huge amount of shoutbacks to past episodes and old characters, as well as overall humor.
Long live Scott Hall and FRUIT PUNCH!. Sep. 27, 2010, 4:00am

So here I am sitting on the toilet thinking about the episode I just watched for the 2nd of many times to come and it dawned on me. Scott Hall killed 24! I don't n ow if it's Ben posted by anyone else yet because I did t take the time to read the new posts since my last review of the site. It makes sense though. He just tried to kill 21 personally so why wouldn't he of hit the button last season?

Your getting it next week with dermott apprently fianlly revealing he's brock's son to hank, and billy showing up in hanks fantasy. And while I don't hate the moppets, they killed 24(or they might not of). But if they did, they deserve to pay.
He may have been a bit of a jackass at times but he was pretty cool and didn't deserve that, and then poor helper was turned into that, admitditly awesome, abomination and brock got injured. Sep. 27, 2010, 9:59pm

In season 4.1 I thought 21 had really come into his own, but this proves he's genuine grade-A bad-ass. Aside from working for a villain, he's the one I most identify with and admire. Maybe Shoreleave's right that he'll never "really be cool," but who cares? Speaking of Shoreleave, I love his trash-talking gay pride fearlessness. If they wanted to do a spin-off starring them and Brock I would so totally watch it.

I have ragged shirts from '80 that I still wear, polyester/nylon unbiodegradable war on Earth survivers. Cockroaches will be wearing parts of my clothes in the next hundred years when we are all gone.
Ok, so that back ground guy who is like the version of The Penguin if he joined the Seeds and got into record collecting (Tag Sale) with the dutch boy cut, he has a hench? Who ran to him? Happened pretty fast and that guy, he intrigues..
Also: Is Truckules a henchman? The Zero chase, he's in the gaggle of goobers running down the race track. He's maybe hencher and villain slash odd truckman more interested in gas stations bug out? A total cipher. I'm sure someone here knows the answer. I wont sleep until I can figure this one out. It's been a few days, and I thought perhaps I might have a conclusion by today. Another thought is he has some other parts to him like spare henchware that can be tossed out under duress. Maybe he was housing Tricyclops and the Watchmaking Kamakazi Frog Squad who were forced out in his inprisoned state of lock down.
Also: Pete White was out in the sun for a while, is he going to be able to function for the rest of the season? Explain his pink lucky pants. Were those red too at one point?
Loved this episode, so many characters, lot of time put into each fleeting scene. Shark skin is very rough, like sandpaper, and you would think a well educated Canadian would know this even in the heat of verbal riposte.
I have more questions, but unlike all of you I don't have a recorder, will have to rewatch when its not the witching hour and hopefully you will be able to ignore me properly (some of the things I thought I saw does not make sense in cartoons even, lack of sleep is a giddy thing). One of the arches Dr. Girlfriend #2'd for is Truckulese, so at some point he was a main bad guy. Realistically they probably just used his model in there because it was hilarious to see (especially Billy riding on him towards the end) but it can be explained away pretty easily by just saying Henchman 1/Zero/Scott Hall wasn't overly thorough and accidentally grabbed a few main guys instead of all sidekicks. Or maybe he's trying out being a #2 or something.
Regardless the plot of stealing all the second fiddles didn't make a whole lot of sense if you think about it. I'm still not quite sure what his motivation was (I mean, I know what he said, but it seemed like a flimsy pretense to have a bunch of dudes together) or where he got his funding for the whole ordeal but I guess he could have borrowed it or maybe he's independently wealthy or something. I think Doc Hammer just really likes Henchman 1. Sep. 28, 2010, 12:42pm

I got the whole 'grabbing sidekicks' thing. He was a henchman who supposedly went the cliche way, so he's got an inferiority complex. By making other sidekicks/henchmen fight, he could say, "I'm the best henchman/sidekick because I control all the henchmen/sidekicks." As for funding, he has some mad henchman skills (falling victim to cliches notwithstanding), so he could have pulled off some heists once he went AWOL.

original captain sunshine/the butler said that they had a plan to reward henchmen but henchman one had gone mad, maybe they rented out the space to throw a party. The butler probably has access to plenty of money, based on the mansion he lives in.
Which is another thing: did the butler cede the captain sunshine identity to the original wonderboy based on his activism for henchmen and sidekick rights? Did he become a servant to make up for his time as a protagonist? Sep. 28, 2010, 7:28pm

I'm surprised no one's mentioned that sometimes the men who defend themselves most fiercely against being called gay ARE actually gay and are just afraid of what will be thought of them if they're open about it. (Personally, I'd believe White is bisexual, but I'm not here to argue about it.)
Also, pink teeshirt in Invisible Hand of Fate as well as two nicknames (off the top of my head) that he hasn't argued against: "Pink Pilgrim" and "Pink Phantom". Clearly, White has no problem with pink so I would believe that he made excuses about his shirt just to defend himself from gay accusations. Sep. 28, 2010, 11:28pm

best on-screen action was Hunter again "CAVITY SEARCH MY ASS!! - umm ... you know what I mean!!" great character. all in all a pretty busy episode, need to rewatch a.s.a.p. thought the "sad titties" dialogue was a bit over the top, but pretty funny ... unlike Rusty's reveal what he would od to his kidnappers. that was just kinda ... uncalled for.
I agree that they could slow it down a notch or two ... what happened this week was action worth of two or more episodes.
also: SCOTT FREAKIN' HALL!!! maybe not the show's greatest reveal, but certainly an interesting character to bring back ... well played Sep. 29, 2010, 9:55am

I don't think so. I don't think that was any part of why he could now arch Dr. Venture.
The plan was for Jonas to use extreme weaponry (The Death Ray that he used to shoot the Mirage Cocoon)...once that Death Ray was used, The Monarch could now go after Jonas's family...like Rusty. Sep. 30, 2010, 11:27am

Omega Ape isn't a hencher either. Scott Hall should call himself Col. Fcukup Zero.

Omega Ape was hangin at Hatred's for the neighborhood get together, pretty sure....
Thought I looked at the post after iI posted it. I basically backwalked into a new train of thought about the "costliness" of the kidnappings. Hopelites are cheap, weekday racetrack rentals are cheaper, hologram and zap boxes are probaly stoen aka free.
If Scott Hall was the lock expert in Pomp and Circuitry then that could explain how he got into the SPHINX hq so easily, and boom shaka lakka. Sep. 30, 2010, 2:20pm

Omega Ape was in several episodes...Home is Where the Hate Is, The Diving Bell vs. The Butter-glider, Shadowman 9: In the Cradle of Destiny, Now Museum..Now You Don't!...and I think The Terrible Secret of Turtle Bay too.
I don't think we know anything about Omega Ape besides his name...so I don't know if he works (worked?) for a larger unit (was there an Alpha Ape he was teamed with and they both worked for a super villain?? I don't know).
I'm not saying Zero messed up at all. Just because we know Truckules used to be a #1..doesn't mean he is now. I don't think it's unreasonable for aging Super Villains to team up or work under another SuperVillian. Similar to the original Captain Sunshine or Sgt. Hatred saying there isn't as much hatred in this ol' Hatred and joining Venture. Sep. 30, 2010, 2:33pm

Omega Ape may be the end result of a tested insane brain eating ape (Alpha -Beta Ape) that evolved into an orangutan with some Planet of the Apes Dr. Zaius trick or treat costume, He may have been built (or evolved) to defend some greek faith, like Zaius had to defend the anti science, ape law-faith.
Both Truckules and Omega Ape might have some ties to the gathered gaggle of henchers via easily being duped by Zues. Truckules as it's his heritage to be tapped by gods to do stupid things, like clean a giant stable (look it up!), and Omega Ape because his call letter on the front of his trick or treatsy has a big greek symbol on it. "I have to do this for the team, and the memory of Lambda-Upsilon Ape." Long shot but I'm gonna go with it my toilet paper roll sword raised high. Oct. 1, 2010, 11:39am

Is the Peter White character loosely (I mean really loosely) based on the albino in Animal Man the old DC comic? They have the same white suit. Not sure if Peter White has forceps like the character in the funny book. Missed some of season 3. Am interested in connections between other comics and thought I would start with the one guy that is dear to me (besides Grant Morrison).

Doubt it. I think Jackson and Doc were just having fun putting (at the time) background characters in stupid looking outfits (though Doc has admitted he thinks White looks spiffy). Ultimately, I think White, as a fashion plate, is just supposed to be a throwback to the 80's. Pastels, effeminate, single pierced ear, new wave.
