It's fairly simple:He's always favored dean because he felt he should have been rusty boy adventurer, the wide eyed idealist that could do what doctor venture can't now. But he actually feels bad for hank cause hanks the bad parts of him:The wannabe with women, the guy always trying to be better but failing. that's why he heaps stuff on hank:Cause while he wants dean to be what he never could be, he knows hank can make it.
