"And this one couldn't have come before that chronologically due to Doc Venture's arm."
I think you were led astray by the ending. Doc didn't get a fake arm. Billy reattached Venture's real arm. That shot of a robot hand you saw was Billy fiddling with his own hand after the operation. Aug. 14, 2006, 5:01am

I'm guessing that Assassinanny 911 was written after this episode, but it ended up airing before it. Maybe it was done being animated first or something. That's why Kim didn't recognise Hank, and she calls him 'the Scooby Doo kid' in Assassinanny 911.
I loved the 1980s Billy Quizboy bit. And Brock going all psycho, running around naked covered in blood carrying a decapitated head. Another good episode! Aug. 12, 2006, 2:11am

Yes as far as production order goes, Assassinanny is #16 and this episode is #15, but that may or may not be relevant since the first two episodes of this season were #20 and #19 and obviously they came first. The ordering is fairly deliberate, I think, so I think it may just be an oversight when Jackson and Doc were laying out the airing order. I guess.

Doc & Jackson just can't stop with da greatness can they??? Even though I haven't seen the episode, sounds like this is another classic. Question, where would you rank this episode from 1 to 6 where 6 is the highest and 1 is the lowest??? I'm just curious because thanks to that godfuckingforsaken invention called "Dial-up" I can't watch it. Lucky Bastards

OK, after a lot of trial and error I've determined the URL of every season two episode except for "Powerless." If anyone knows the URL for "Powerless," I'd really like to have it.
Someone supposedly linked to "Powerless" at http://kvance.livejournal.com/959068.html , but the links don't work for me. Aug. 14, 2006, 4:49am

I've never commented on this board before... kinda assumed it was a longer process...
To be totally honest, I wasn't very impressed with the last 2 episodes. I thought "Escape to the House of the Mummies" was an experiment gone wrong, but I was glad others liked it, and "20 Years to Midnight" just didn't quite click. After the brilliance of the first 3 I was worried VB season 2 was running low on steam. That said: HOLY CRAP! "Victor Echo November" is easily within my top 6 favorite episodes of all time, and I think Publick and Hammer did a fantastic job on the entire thing. I get the feeling they really hit their stride when they go for the Seinfeldy dialogue and situations, where something interesting is happening, but the focus is on how two or three distinct characters react to that event and each other, or just pass the time while others are dealing with it.
It seems at this point you could take any single character or set of two from the show and create an entire spinoff centered around them, because that's just how evolved, interesting, and developed they all are.
This wasn't abundantly clear from many of the episodes in the first season, so I just hope Adult Swim continues to push more people to watch this show, because it is FREAKIN AWESOME. Aug. 12, 2006, 6:59am

Wow... this is right there with Assasinanny... maybe even better... A few minutes into this ep I started thinking that they better be working on the season 2 DVD now, because it needs to come out ASAP when the season ends...
This definately seems like it comes before Assasinanny due to the whole "Scooby Doo kid" thing... on the [as] schedule it is tough to tell the original order, and epguides.com is also confusing...
Hard to pick out just a few things, but a couple of great moments were:
Triana explaining Hank and Dean to her friend (Kim, was it?)...
The multiple stories about Billy and Phantom (along with the end w/ Billy)...
21 and 24 throughout...
Brock in hardcore protect the family mode... Aug. 12, 2006, 7:26am

The multiple versions of the origin of Phantom Limb remind me of an episode of "Batman: The Animated Series" that deals with the way three diffeerent kids each see Batman. One of the versions is based on the old campy Adam West series while another is based on the Frank Miller version from "The Dark Knight Returns".

According to Wikipedia, Doc Hammer has stated that the episodes are being shone out of order and November comes before Assassinanny, which explains not only the continuity issues, but also why he left them with a bodygaurd for 2 days when he used to leave them alone for a week a year (he wasn't worried about Phantom Limb reneging his promise back then).
Anyway, I think this season is easily the best show on television right now, even if you don't take into account how few other shows are premiering episodes. I've watched all of them over and over again and they're all fantastic in every respect.
I hope they develop Dean and Triana's relationship--or, more precisely, lack there of--more later in the season. I think there's a lot of potential there. Aug. 12, 2006, 6:20pm

I would eventually like to see why brock is so loyal to the venture family. we saw in this episode that he actually considers himself part of it so there's gotta be a reason why. i hope we find out this season. there really seems to be no reason why so far, considering the fact that doc venture is suck a d*ck and the boys can simply be reanimated, or whatever it is they can do.

Even though they are just clones, Jackson has stated that Brock feels an intense dedication to his ultimate mission--protect the Venture family. Admittedly, Dr. Venture can just clone his troublesome offspring at any moment's notice, but Brock would still beat himself up knowing that he failed in using his incredibly violent skills to save the two junior grade Stretch Armstrongs.

I never thought a white man could make a car...no fuck that this is more than a cartoon this is a fucking legacy. But anyways as I was saying I never thought a white man could make something so goddamn funny. I see what you guys meant about this episode. This is up there with "Assassinanny 911" maybe even better. Brock is a damn psycho. That part where that commando thought he was dying even though Brock didn't kill him was funny as hell. Hank is a fucking moron when it comes to dating. If he is a clone of Brock, he didn't inheirit his way with women. Who shows up for a date in a Batman costume??? Awww shit I can't wait for the next episode. They just keep getting better and better. I guess white people can make bad-ass shows too. I thought "The Boondocks" was the greatest show on TV but "The Venture Bros." beats it by a long shot..............and no I ain't no racist.......................

I'd like to personally thank Doc Kneezy for making this the most entertaining Discussion Family on the internet. If it weren't for a weekly "Fuck you DIAL UP!!, a "What the Fucking Fuckity-Fuck was THAT about", or my favorite "All you Motherfuckers know how I feel like now" (that one must be read like Jay from the Kevin Smith movies for full effect), I wouldn't have any real reason to open my firefox in the morning. So I'd like to say this Doc. Keep it up and God bless you!

Are they clones? Quoting Dr. Venture (when Hank and Dean are fighting about who started it) " ... No I STARTED IT! In a moment of passion, and I'll end it just as quick."
And remember, Brock did go to college with Doc Venture. The Doc (a longtime friend) is probably the only family Brock has left. If I was a villain, I would have taken out his family! Aug. 14, 2006, 11:17pm

Anyone else think that Dr. Girlfriend is going to go back to being a supervillian on her own again (possibly with Kim as her #2)? I wouldn't mind seeing that. She seems to be completely fed up with Phantom Limb and not ready to get back together with the Monarch yet. She seems to have it together more than those two do.

Man, did I get my hopes up today when the iTunes Music Store said it was offering "Fallen Arches" for sale, not "Victor. Echo. November." Alas, it has the "Fallen Arches" name, but the content is "Victor. Echo."
HOWEVER (spoilers), while the file may not have contained the entertainment, it DID contain the "Fallen Arches"' episode description, which I reprint here:
"'Fallen Arches': When the Guild of Calamitous Intent finally approves Dr. Orpheus for his very own arch nemesis he calls upon old friends The Alchemist and Jefferson Twilight to resurrect their former super-team, The Order of the Triad. While they audition supervillain candidates at the Venture Compound, a jealous Doc isn't about to let Orpheus steal the show. Let loose the Walking Eye!"
I cannot wait. Byron is my favorite character. Aug. 15, 2006, 6:15am

I don't know if any one has thought of this, but Hank and Dean could be twins. Fraternal twins I mean. Meaning that the mother of Hank and Dean could have release two eggs and had them fertilized by the same man or two different men. And now the grand conclusion to my hypothesis.
Dr. Venture and Brock fucked the same woman and they both got her pregnant at the same time.
Not meaning that they fucked her at the same time just that they both fertilized an egg. From what i read its possible but unlikely. To me it makes sense why hank is more like brock and why dean is more like Dr. Venture.
Also, this was a great episode. Aug. 15, 2006, 6:59am

it is a sound theory...one I haven't thought of! it does seem possible for brock and thaddius to have impregnated a woman around the same time...I would like to also point out that the boys must have a mother...most of the clone talk on the chatroom from some people seem to like the theory that the boys are straight clones from Thad and/or Brock...Dr.V mentions the boys mother several times in season one...remember mid-Life chrystalsis? thus the boys HAVE a mother...her story is a mystery

I do like the theory that Hank is Brock's son, but nobody has brought up the fact that in Dia de los Dangerous! Dr Venture took a kidney from both Hand and Dean. If Hank isn't blood related to Dr. Venture, then there would have to be many extremely coincidental similarities between Brock and Dr V. for the kidney transplant to work (ie, same blood type, etc.). Of course, some might consider this an extremely rigid constraint in a venture world that doesn't always have an exact basis in reality, especially in the area of science.

I don't know if this is just me, but I find I can watch the better episodes over and over without really getting tired of them... like, multiple times in a week. Having seen it this many times, I haven't noticed the errors that other people keep bringing up, so I'm hoping the capsule shows what's up. The only real error that I can find is that 21 calls shotgun on the Stanza, but in the driving scene he's back in cargo. Of course, the Monarch is a super villain. As for Triana on the wrong side of the road, I used to do that too, while shouting "LOOK WE ARE IN ENGLAND!"... so it could be intentional. Some other things have also come to mind:
I'm going to have to figure out a way to get a screencap of Billy's face when he's getting zapped to use as my buddy icon. Best single image in the history of the world.
I'm sort of uncomfortable with all the referencing to old bands. Brock's Zepplin ones work, but really, who has heard of Jesus Jones, Yazz, or Republica?
Kim and Dr. Girlfriend teaming up brings thoughts unbidden to my mind. I hope it's tastefully done.
If this show somehow dies on adultswim... I mean, I get the feeling it's going strong, but just in case... I could totally see the SciFi channel picking them up. That should be plan B.
No one has mentioned HELPeR's super killbot mode. How cool is that?
Ever notice how often you see people using the bathroom in this series? It's not jarring because it totally fits with the "Johnny Quest: Uncut" theme, but I just thought it was worth mentioning.
The entire final sequence, with kind of a Star Wars homage as well as making you think Venture was given a mechanical hand was pretty classy, but Billy Quizboy's delivery of the final line was priceless.

Kim is gonna make one super-sexy villian. Also I love how they keep making jokes about Hank's "junk". Lastly, does anyone else find it odd that Triana hasn't had a sit down with Dean to tell him that he's officially dead? I mean I get why the other characters are staying mum, but why Triana? In the season opener she was totally against her father resurrecting them.

I second stain's theory. Of course, it's also possible that as the respectable goth chick she is, she knows about it and accepts it as just another quirk.
What I'm wondering about is why we have yet to meet any real superheros, with the possible exception of some of the background people in Tag Sale. We know they are out there, one was mentioned by name in Powerless in the Face of Death by that Crocodile Rainman guy at the henchmen support group. So far the only people who come close to fitting the bill of "superhero" are Professor Impossible, since he's got superpowers and isn't flat-out evil (just a dick), Brock, and Dr. O. But Impossible seems content to remain a super scientist, Brock doesn't go out of his way to fight any villains not attacking the Ventures, and Orpheus as of yet doesn't even have anyone to foil, apart from various supernatural entities.
As long as I'm wondering about characters, what's with Brock's refusal to use guns? Normally in media, people who hate guns do so because they are apposed to violence, so I think we can write that one off. The only theory that I have is that Brock likes to be sporting about it... he's such a skillfull killer that he wouldn't get to experience the joy of the hunt if he can just pop anyone he sees. I think you could consider the original Team Venture as superheroes in a way. The were shown in two first season eps, at the beginning of Ghosts of the Sargasso and were featured more prominently in Past Tense.
Captain Sunshine was also mentioned in the last episode of season one. 21 and 24 are visiting the Monarch in jail and he is asking them if they have completed certain tasks he asked of them since being incarcerated. "Have you returned the charred remains of Wonderboy to his beloved Captain Sunshine?". The Captain may have been on a bit of a vengence streak because of that when he took out Crimodile. If this had just been Brock we were talking about here, yeah, he would have gutted Limb like a fish. But Limb made a very legitimate threat to Brock that if he fell by Brock's hand, not only the Venture's, but everyone Brock's ever known would bite it. Given how thorough, competent, and efficient the 'real' Guild of Calamitous Intent is, that pretty much meant everyone from Steve Summers and Bigfoot to his transvestite boss from the OSI to Molotov Cocktease herself would have been pushing up daisies...
Sure, Brock's an animal, but as we've seen, he's still a human being, and very much has a heart... It's Dr. Venture who's the real cold hearted bastard in this show... lol Aug. 17, 2006, 2:07am

Nice point "Bonzo the Fifth;" in the linear timeline we would later see two of those people who Brock loves enough to protect. Namely Molotov Cocktease and Hunter, both of whom we meet in 'Assassinanny911.' Thus further deepening his character, after all, we grasp his passion in that episode within the context of flask-backs. Apparently we see depth in character through his past.

What I thought was really interesting is the way Triana responded when Kim asked if the Venture Brothers were cute. Triana immediately responded that Dean was kind of cute and goes into the whole Buddy Holly thing. However, when Kim asked if her date (Hank) was cute, Triana's reponse was non-commmital. She does mentions his hair color and that fact that he's athletic, but obviously--the audience at least--doesn't think that Hank is cute. It appears to me that that Triana picked Dean for herself and pawned Hank off on her friend.
Oh! It may or may be significant, but Buddy Holly was killed in a plane crash. And wasn't one of the many deaths of the Venture Brothers caused by a plane? Sure, it was due to being sucked into an engine, but it might count. Aug. 17, 2006, 5:55pm

Great observation you've pointed out. This season they've sofened up Triana. First season she was much colder and indifferent towards them. It's ever since they've came back from the dead that she's sofened up a bit. Oh I got a question did the Guild break into Dr. Orpheus's section of the compound? Does his section go Lock Down too? Could he have survived if the Guild walked in on him?

I'm late to the party, I just got to watcing this episode tonight. This one is my favorite of this season so far. So many things going on, but they all mesh together well into one funny story. The most memorable moment after the first viewing is Hank thinking his date is a villan, possibly a medusa. He such an idiot.
