Viceroy! No workbooks!: "SPHINX Rising" Episode Guide

Sorry to break up all the good time spanakopita news, but the episode guide for "SPHINX Rising" is up. As always, feel free to contribute anything (corrections, additions and so on) to the guide, either via the comments here or with the contact form if you're shy. I'm sure I forgot a bunch of stuff (like 21's Dune reference!) so let's get to it.
Great work as always!

Good work. The line Wind Song says before his 'big red button' line refers to this guy:

Damnit, thank you. I tried so many spellings but nothing came up.

Excellent work as always Mike, but I'm pretty sure you missed the Dune reference when 21 was speaking to Hatred- I'm not a Dune fan, so I'm not the one to ask.

Also, out of curiosity, is there any reason the various creatures in "Venture Libre" (Man-Thing, Smokey the Bear, etc.) aren't in that episode's capsule?

Mostly because I haven't gotten around to adding everything yet!

Fair enough. Apologies.

No need to apologize! I was just in the weeds with the first episode being an hour (plus family was staying over for the week) and I cut some corners here and there. Some attempt will be made to add more notes in the finished guides later this week. Hopefully!

Are you talking about the exchange concerning the size of 21's manhood ("Whip the little guy out, and I'll go get Doc's microscope . . . .")? I have no idea what 21 says there. I thought it might be a "Dune" reference, too, but I've never seen more than five minutes of that movie.

He says "there is a damn Paul Muad'Dib riding this worm" which is a reference to one of the main characters in the first two novels of the Dune series (which I have never read, poor nerd cred on my part) riding a giant sandworm. Sandworms are massive in the series, described as '80 meters in diameter'. The implication there is fairly obvious, I think.

Sandworms ... you know I hate them.

Anybody get that reference? Anyone?

In your notes on SPHYNX and the Pyramid wars you say that after Sphynx was defeated it was replaced by the Guild. But the Guild was formed in the 19th century, so it existed long before SPHYNX. did. Also, the Guild is more like an insurance clearing house or the UN. SPHYNX would be one member of the Guild, but it wouldn't be the whole organization.

I will reword that, but I meant that it became the primary antagonistic organization and the focus of the OSI.

Nice job. One thing I might add- the whole thing about Gary looking like a Wookie when using Brock's crossbow is a reference to how Brock dressed up as a Wookie in Love Bheits, as part of the group costume. And how the Wookie's primary weapon is a bowcaster, which is like a crossbow mixed with a laser.

Sphinx Commander is sitting in a Pontiac Trans Am, not a Thunderbird - thanks for the episode guides, especially for the obscure stuff - I thought Gary/21 said he had a Shia LeBeouf down there, assuming that he's a huge penis with ears...

Thanks. For some reason I always conflate Trans Am and Thunderbird. My brain doesn't understand.

Oh it's probably because I am confusing Firebird for Thunderbird.

Okay, Venturoos. Here's what ya get for the Extras, at least on the DVD version. I felt it was a little light, but that's just my opinion. Deleted Scenes (as always) - Some are B&W sketches with the dialog, others are animated with the dialog. Ghost in the Pro-Blem - An extended view of the distorted images of events from the Pro-BLEM's point of view. Maybe there are some clues hidden in it if you like frame-by-frame advancing. Maybe not. Sirena Goes Off... - Cristin Milioti ad-libbing way more dialog than the script calls for. Poor Rocco. Promo - Basically the season 7 promo. Maybe there's Easter Eggs to find. I haven't done any extensive searching yet. If anyone finds any feel free to post them here!
