Let's Watch: The Doctor Is Sin
It's time for this week's Let's Watch! Tonight's episode is the classic Killinger episode, "The Doctor Is Sin" which you can watch tonight at 10pm eastern and pacific time (it will also not be reairing later in the night, so that's the only chance you have to see it). Did you know that the first half of this episode aired on April 1st, 2008, two months before the episode's premiere, in a rough-cut format without any music or sound effects? True fact! Feel free to use the comments to talk about the episode or the show in general, and have fun!

Gotta disagree with you here. Even though it isn't the one of the first ones on the first disk I go for, I still really like the ones that delve deeply into Rusty's psyche (Assisted Suicide, anyone?). Rusty's one of my favorite characters, along with Phantom Limb and Col. Gathers.

I agree with you about Killenger and dealing with Rusty's demons but the whole General Manhowers/JJ is doing good and Rusty is doing bad thing feels forced. I still don't like the ending though. It comes out of nowhere in a bad way. Are Manhowers and Killenger the gods of old or something? Why the hell are they talking constellations with a library PSA? It just doesn't sit well with me.
There are things I like about the episode, like the journey through Rusty's issues and most of Killenger's scenes. Like I said, even the weakest episodes are pretty good. I just don't care for it as much compared to other episodes. Dec. 19, 2010, 10:26pm

The talking-constellation thing was, I'm pretty sure, just a stupid fourth-wall breaking joke. I think the point is that initially it seems as though Killinger appearing in the stars may be a representation of his incredible power, but when Manhowers shows up it's just plain silly.

The Doctor is Sin was a good example of me getting suckered into a cool VB concept, only to have my face slapped with the reality of the futility of the show's plots. Upon my first viewing of The Doctor is Sin, I was thinking "Yes, this is dead on. Rusty is evil. Killinger is helping him understand his true nature. This will really shake up the Venture world!" Then the abrupt, change of plans ending to the episode reminded me that I was dumb for buying it in the first place. Even so, I don't think it has to be that way. Although the characters in the show tend to fail, the plots don't also have to fail. Rusty could have embraced his evil side, the Orb didn't need to be junk, etc.
