Huffington Post Gay Voices Interview With Jackson & Doc

Kicking off the Comic-Con interview bonanza this year is Huffington Post Gay Voices, who put together a nice interview with Jackson and Doc that goes into the many gay characters in the series. There are also a few tidbits in there about the upcoming season, the most interesting being that Col. Gentleman will have a "decent episode" this season. Here's a snip:

And what of your other [straight] characters? What’s your mindset [when writing for them]?

Doc Hammer: Jackson and I are not gay and we’re not supervillains and we’re not women. We’re not any of these things. We draw upon them the same way we would any other character. If you write for a character that has the same sexual preference as you, doesn’t matter, they’re not you. So when we write a gay character, it’s just one more thing that he has.

Jackson Publick: Yeah, we write them differently but no differently than all the real character specifics that we take into account when we’re writing anybody else.

Thanks to Robert and Kevin for letting me know about this. Related item: there is also a slideshow of 35 LGBT characters on Adult Swim, a number of which are from Venture Bros.. Boom!
Interesting read. I think it's funny that my 2 favorite [as] shows of all time easily have the most gay characters (Venture Bros. and Frisky Dingo). At least all the characters on VB are different are are not your stereotypical throw-in gay (that bit gets old). The top 35 [as] characters at the bottom makes no mention of Sgt. Hatred....and he's a recurring character, not a 1-use joke character used in 1 episode like some (ei: Rupert). I agree with Doc though, it'd be nice if sexuality wasn't news.

Sgt. Hatred isn't gay. He's a heterosexual with pedophillia. There is a difference.

Well, I suppose there is a difference. But his pedophillia is interested in boys (not girls); that's at least some form of homosexuality, but probably not the kind that the article is meaning (I guess).

pedophillia is a nasty slur that often thrown at gay people but most gay people are only interested in adult men. While most pedophiles identify themselves as straight men. Remember that Sgt Hatred was intensely devoted to his wife Princess Littlefeet. Unlike Mr. Gentleman there were no cabana boys in his operation.

I'm aware of all of that. And I'm not disagreeing with you. I was just saying that pedophilia has hetero and homo versions, and they may or may not have correlations with the same person's attraction to adults.

Okay, Venturoos. Here's what ya get for the Extras, at least on the DVD version. I felt it was a little light, but that's just my opinion. Deleted Scenes (as always) - Some are B&W sketches with the dialog, others are animated with the dialog. Ghost in the Pro-Blem - An extended view of the distorted images of events from the Pro-BLEM's point of view. Maybe there are some clues hidden in it if you like frame-by-frame advancing. Maybe not. Sirena Goes Off... - Cristin Milioti ad-libbing way more dialog than the script calls for. Poor Rocco. Promo - Basically the season 7 promo. Maybe there's Easter Eggs to find. I haven't done any extensive searching yet. If anyone finds any feel free to post them here!
