More Action Figure Prototypes

Seeing as how I should have checked there in the first place, Mego Museum has looks at what seem to be most of the promised figures (no Hank or Dr. Girlfriend): More when they show up! Thanks to everyone who pointed these out!

I know these aren't the finished versions, but maybe they shouldn't go for the Mego style after all.

..........meh. Very, very meh. Might end up getting The Monarch, seeing as that's the only one I could see myself getting and out of sheer love and support for this show.

I love the fact that they're MEGO's and all, (The MEGO joke in "What Goes Down, Must Come Up" is what ultimately converted me from casual fan to obsessed Venture-Junkie, seeing as I felt like I must be the only 15 year old in America to get it, much less know what a MEGO is.) but they're horribly, horribly off-model. I get the kind of kitsch vibe it's supposed to give off, but I want quality with my figures.

Would never buy them, and I thought I'd buy the hell out of any VB toy. :/

I have to agree that these figures are rather flawed, and those flaws are firmly rooted in the decision to emulate the old Mego figures, a decision I was worried about when it was announced but I hoped my fears were unjustified. Instead of letting the design of the characters guide the design of the figures, they've gone in the opposite direction. The trouble with going that route is that much is lost, the original character design ends up looking distorted, and it all ends up looking like a bunch of Mego dolls wearing Venture Brothers costumes rather than faithful representations of the characters. Not that I think it's all bad. Besides Brock, the head sculpts appear to be going in the right direction. But their very cheap looking bodies drag down the overall design.

As a collector I look for figures that people actually put time, thought and talent into creating. I can't say I completely hate these Mego-Venture figures, The Monarch is kinda OK, but as they are, I certainly don't like them enough to plop down 20 or so bucks for each. So, why try to conform modern designs onto archaic foundations? In the end, it seems to be doing neither justice.

I completely agree with you. I initially felt uneasy about the idea of MEGO-styled figures, but I appreciated what they were doing in terms of kitsch and was hoping it would be pulled of successfully. Mattel's upcoming Retro Action Super Hero line is a good example (check em out here: http://www.thefwoosh.com/forum/download/file.php?id=81&mode=view). They've got the goofy, old school look, but the bodies are at least proportioned right and they aren't drowning in their oversized clothes. Hopefully the folks at Bif Bang Pow took a stroll around Toy Fare and saw how inferior their product looks compared to Mattel's.

I'm hoping that the bagginess of the clothing is partly due to them being prototypes. Even original Mego dolls didn't have clothing that baggy. I actually really like the look of old Mego figures, there's something about their design and construction that makes me want to spend hundreds of dollars procuring a couple (I won't though).

The really sad part is that the other lines that they showed off are actually pretty good. I know that VB has gone through stylistic changes and isn't the most photorealistic show but it's hard to ignore such big issues with the figures. Monarch and his guys are ok, might be worthwhile (I have issues with the beanie style wings but not big ones) but otherwise there needs to be some serious revision done to even get close.

I'd buy Triad figures for sure and then if they weren't any good I'd pretend that it's because Dr. Orpheus made them.

Really? Looking at it again, I think the Monarch looks fantastic. Granted, I can't stand the rest, but I'd be more than happy to showcase The Monarch figure in my room.

Wow.
I am REALLY not an action figure type of Kat; but I was really looking forward to these action figures. It seemed like VB toys would be Fat-City. But now that I'm looking at them. I think they look terrible!
I would've thought I'd agree to anything officially VB related; but these things are far and away out of the question for me. I really don't like the skewed porportions, terrible likeness, and most of all, the fabric clothing. I would much rather have the clothing molded from plastic.
- But there you go, I guess I'll just remain a No Action Figure type of guy.

I'd rather see 3-4" action figures and vehicles. Real cloth scales poorly, everyone ends up looking like they're wearing a snow suit with gigantic belt loops.

Okay, Venturoos. Here's what ya get for the Extras, at least on the DVD version. I felt it was a little light, but that's just my opinion. Deleted Scenes (as always) - Some are B&W sketches with the dialog, others are animated with the dialog. Ghost in the Pro-Blem - An extended view of the distorted images of events from the Pro-BLEM's point of view. Maybe there are some clues hidden in it if you like frame-by-frame advancing. Maybe not. Sirena Goes Off... - Cristin Milioti ad-libbing way more dialog than the script calls for. Poor Rocco. Promo - Basically the season 7 promo. Maybe there's Easter Eggs to find. I haven't done any extensive searching yet. If anyone finds any feel free to post them here!
