Five Years of Mantis-Eyes
Greetings, friends! I know we're still in the midst of season four point one, but you may have noticed a little crest at the top of the site and wondered what it's all about. Well, obviously it's about five years of television show fansite, uh, existence. Yes, exactly five years ago today the Mantis-Eye Experiment launched as a celebration of the Venture Bros. I'm kicking off a couple weeks of festivities with a boring history article: A Mantis-Eye Retrospective. I assure you this is the least exciting of all the things to come, but for now it's all you get.
I'm not going to reveal what exactly the near future holds just yet, but I assure you that, as fans of the show, you will hopefully enjoy the hell out of them. Stay tuned!

My first VB episode was a rerun of 'Are You There God? It's Me, Dean'. I don't remember when it was, but it wasn't until late Season 2 that I found this site through a Wikipedia link and until Season 3 that I started posting. It is always nice to come here and get the latest VB news or discuss a recent episode. Here's to 5 more years of this site and VB (hopefully more).

I've been here forever! It's weird thinking how long it's been! I remember the layout of all those screenshots. Wild
I remember the first time I saw the show was the pilot, they aired it with a few other one-off flash shows. (Venture was the only one that endid up being picked up) I loved it. I recorded it on my VCR durring the Thursday repeats.
-Anybody remember those?
I remember some time after that, I was at art school, walking to the metro in NoHo, when I passed an abandoned building with posters pasted all over the side with the familiar skull all over them and a date at the bottom. I knew immediately what it was! that was when I first found out that Venture was going to be picked up for a full season.
I enjoyed the retrospective Mike.....There is one thing you left out though (perhaps intentionally) you didn't mention when, durring the down-time, the site was "commandeered" by #21, the monarch, and it seems like someone else....I can't recall.
Anyway, thanks for 5 years Mike. I know I'm not the only one who appreciates all the hard work and effort you put into the site. It is always appreciated. Dec. 8, 2009, 8:52am

Haha I'm glad you remember those. It was the Monarch and his henchmen for a while, followed by the Guild. That was actually my answer to an April Fool's joke that lasted entirely too long (it started on April 2nd and lasted for at least a month).
There's also the various more structured April Fool's jokes. The Super Milk-Chan Experiment, the 12 Oz. Mouse Experiment and the Adult Swim acquisition of the site. This year was actually the first year I didn't do anything. Dec. 8, 2009, 6:02pm

Mike! Greetings from Belfast. Been reading since the start but never posted before (although I always read everyone else's). Just wanted to say amazing job dude, like a few others have said this is one of the few sites I check daily. Last year I was working a horrendous job in a bank (I escaped) and it always brightened up my day when there was a new capsule to read. Thanks amigo :)

In Now Museum, Now You Dont- when Sally Impossible comes up to Richard Impossible, he's looking at a photo of him as a member of the 'Boys Brigade' - him being tall and lanky, next to Dr Venture, and in a wheelchair holding the 'Boys Brigade' sign is a young Phantom Limb wiht his little bitty baby arms and legs, and also in the photo are two, yet to be identified (probably dead) other guys. im guessing that the guy in the sweater is a young Sergeant Hatred, and no clue who the boyscout with the Bob Dylan Jew fro is

Ah, five years of Venture already.
I first saw it when I was either 10 or 11. My first episode was either "Ice Station Impossible!", "The Incredible Mr. Brisby" or "Return to Spider-Skull Island". Either way, even when I was 10 and I could comprehend the sheer genius behind the re-engineering of the "Fantastic Four" concept (Ice Station...), I knew this show was a step above most cable TV.
I followed on-off for years, having only seen the first half of Season 2 and a few episodes from Season 3. It wasn't until this summer when I had nothing better to do and decided to record the daily re-runs on my DVR. I instantly became hooked, and in my older years, was able to appreciate this show on a much deeper and emotional level.
I only discovered this site the day before "Perchance to Dean" was to air, ecstatic at the fact that not only was there a site other than the wiki for hardcore Venture fans, but that "VB" was going to reference my favorite prog-rock band of all time.
Thanks, Mantis Eye. Dec. 9, 2009, 3:32am

I started visiting your site between seasons two and three, and now I visit it almost every day. Just wanted to thank you for creating a very well-designed site, nay, community for us Venture fans. I always look forward to logging on Monday mornings and participating in the discussions. Your hard work is much appreciated.
