The Fourteenth Week -- Discussion

In case you were wondering why this weekend feels strangely... empty... it's probably because it's the first time in thirteen weeks that there's no new Venture Bros. episodes to discuss or speculate about. I know it's hard, but a lot of us have been there before. And hey, at least this time we know there's another season to come. The ends of season one and two brought about some of the most epic waits in television history.

And so we have our final discussion for season three. Talk about the season here as well as your hopes and dreams and speculations for the future. Pop on over to Adult Swim Video and check out clips and full episodes (currently Family that Slays Pt II and Mid-life Chrysalis) and wait for the season three DVD. Also if you want a free shirt there are like twenty-one hours left for a chance to win one. I've already gotten a bunch of awesome entries, though sadly I don't have enough cash to get everyone a shirt. The winner will be announced tomorrow (or Sunday) and I'll probably post all the rest of the entries as well.

Until then, enjoy, and try not to panic. It'll be back before you know it.

Here's an idea for a discussion... how about ideas, stories and plotlines/resolutions we'd like to see in Season 4?

I just watched Mid-Life Chrysalis again - I forgot that General Treister was mentioned. Maybe we'll find out how Brock saved his life when he comes back in Season 4.

Are you jonesin' for a Venture Fix like Action Johnny in a diving bell?

This is completely legit and above board. You will be amazed by how much JQ lore Jackson and Doc mine for the Ventureverse including the "OOOOO Ray" and Hector's meeting Rusty and Jonas Sr. Its like Venture methadone.

OSI=Polpot

the promo short for the OSI seemed like a political conniving psychotic Rwandan radio broadcast/wwII Radio Werewolf/Cambodian death camp leader ccould have directed this kill happy montage. and it was funny as hell. this season brought all kinds of crazy to the table. the extreme angst of Action Man. the hit everybody in the face problems of
Col. Gentlemen. the heightened sense of self worth and need for hazard of Scaramantula (great explanation of his face) and Brainulo (respectively).
Sgt. Hatred is a pedophile who is good at threats but shuns combat like any good backwoods militia group. he's so crazy and succeptable to anything, any idea, including combat and is probably able to solve problems with playing sarge.
the depressed alchoholic Mr. Impossible..

future hopes and situations for season 4? the weirder, nuttier characters stand out the most in the overall scope of the VB universe, but in the future??
OCDs who have removed most of the body flesh to see the bones, urine drinkers from below the earth, bedpan cleaners (the beast Crowley loved doing this in the bordello he worked at), narcisstic mirror toting lumps of clay with flashlight fingers, dissociative identity disorder multiple men, nyctophobic vampires who wear reflective clothing and mining hats, hoplophobics (hatred of guns) who make balloon type toys out of gun nozzles, and the deep psycho-exploration of the Ed Gein types who live in the E Den.

i have many other hopes, most for season 5 though.
also the pre guild Tesla/Avon Ladies angle (did Crowley join them when he was tossed?) should be explored. intriguing stuff! Mark Twain aligns and works for new shoes.

Well I'm thinking/hoping H.E.L.P.eR. will come back since they haven't hammed up his death as much as 24's. Besides, he's a robot. A lot easier to bring back from the dead.

Although I don't think 24 is coming back, I wouldn't be surprised if we saw him at least once, like say if Dr. Orpheus took a trip down into the underworld. Hehe, I would love to see where henchmen go when they die.

A few thoughts I'd like to share regarding the next season...

[Henchman 24, gone for good?]
Well, there's really no sense in arguing whether or not he died. His flaming head landed in the arms of his best friend, and as far as I know, people haven't been known to survive decapitation.

The question is, will he be brought back?

This could prove to be an interesting quarrel between Rusty Venture and Orpheus. After all, what more motivation does Rusty need than to potentially one-up Orpheus at his own profession of resurrecting the dead? Besides, 24 wouldn't be the first of the Monarch's henchman Rusty brought back from the dead. (¡Viva los Muertos!)

On the other hand, this scenario is pretty played out, and it's unlikely that it should come to fruition. It's my opinion that 24 is indeed gone, and never to be seen (alive) again.

[The downward spiral of Henchman 21]
Loved, rejected, lossed, decrepit. Without his henchman counterpart to back him up, a newfound realization that he is in fact a target of the murdering hand of fate, and bearing a continued adoration for the woman whom his leader is married to, he is likely to discontinue serving as a henchman under the Monarch.

He has expressed interest in becoming his own supervillain, even coining a name for himself as the Viceroy (Powerless in the Face of Death). I have to say, I'm convinced this will indeed be his fate early on in the next season, but his success is questionable.

[Clone genocide]
With the full erradication of Hank and Dean's clones, and the likely discontinuation of Rusty's "illegal clone farm", our death-prone duo are no longer invulnerable to the laws of mortality. Even more disturbing is Hank's ever-developing sense of recklessness, the resignation of their superhuman bodyguard, and the current standing of the Venture family and the OSI. It looks like Rusty may have to learn a thing or two about being a responsible parent.

[Resignation of Brock Samson]
Perhaps the biggest mystery of all is where lies the fate of Brock Samson. No longer affiliated with the OSI, will he become a freelance mercenary? Will he join Molotov's Blackhearts? Maybe he'll become a car mechanic or a professional football player... it's really hard to say.

Maybe this was actually addressed this season and I missed it or something but: at the end of season 2 Dr. Girlfriend made a startling revelation to the Monarch. As far as I can tell they never revealed what that was? Am I missing something obvious or is this correct? Any help would be appreciated.

They sort of addressed it in Shadowman 9: In the Cradle of Destiny, but it wasn't exactly spelled out. As far as I can figure, Dr. Mrs. the Monarch was working with the Guild to get the Monarch to stop henching Dr. Venture. I could be wrong in my understanding of it though.

I think Jubilli is right, but I agree that it wasn't explained very well and that it was sort of a letdown.

Hey guys,

I have a question that is really messing with me and has been for some time.

Definitively, once and for all, what did Dr. Girlfriend say at the very end of Cremation Creek Pt. 2 that so shocked the Monarch?

Okay, Venturoos. Here's what ya get for the Extras, at least on the DVD version. I felt it was a little light, but that's just my opinion. Deleted Scenes (as always) - Some are B&W sketches with the dialog, others are animated with the dialog. Ghost in the Pro-Blem - An extended view of the distorted images of events from the Pro-BLEM's point of view. Maybe there are some clues hidden in it if you like frame-by-frame advancing. Maybe not. Sirena Goes Off... - Cristin Milioti ad-libbing way more dialog than the script calls for. Poor Rocco. Promo - Basically the season 7 promo. Maybe there's Easter Eggs to find. I haven't done any extensive searching yet. If anyone finds any feel free to post them here!
