Guess Who's Coming to State Discussion?

Gotta mix it up a little, eh? Anyway, it's now 6pm on Friday, meaning the newest episode of Venture Bros. should be up on AS Fix if you want to check it out. For those of you who can't/won't then it will of course air on Adult Swim at 10:30pm this coming Sunday. As always you can talk about the episode here, but if you don't want any jokes or plotlines or whatever spoiled, you're better off staying away from the comments.

Edit: I bumped the timestamp on this update to the 10th since it was sort of burried under a bunch of other updates and the episode actually airs tonight. Hopefully the database won't be down too much!

I never got why did Manstrong had a chip in his head. Since it a Venture Industry thing was it another one of Jonas Venture Sr’s failed utopian ideas?

At the end Rusty mentioned that it was the Gargantua-1s motherboard, so it might have gotten stuck in there as a result of the crash. But no it was left nebulous - was that the reason? Was Mom responsible? Did Bud's flashback of the doctors working on it have some connection? No answers - another reason why I thought this episode was a turd, the chip was a total MacGuffin.

BTW, back when the Gargantua-1 was built, mainframe computers took up whole floors of buildings, so how could that teeny-tiny chip be the computer's motherboard? The whole thing about the space station was that it was totally forgotten and disused, so should have had mostly original equipment. Just a shaggy-dog story, a whole long setup for a lame gag at the very end.

"Cass, I'll take that blowjob now."

I remember reading on either Doc Hammer's or Jackson Publick's LiveJournal page that they thought an upcoming episode didn't turn out as good as they thought, and I'm wondering if they were referring to this one. It's not as laugh-heavy as the others from this season. It's still a good episode, but it pales to the others. Still, it's nice to see what happened to Mrs. Impossible and Ned, and the ghost of Abraham Lincoln taking over Dean and trying to make out with Hank? And Mrs. Manstrong hitting on Brock? Really funny stuff. It just felt like the jokes were too far apart.

Actually, I liked this one a lot. Great array of characters, hilarious story, and a presidential ghost hitting on
hank. Not to mention Dean and Hank working together without being annoying or weak points in the plot.

And I love the club soda thing! It kinda does get anything off

Amusing composite of some of the more lampoon-able qualities of the last 2 presidents. A philanderer who can't say "nuclear" correctly and is worried that Jesus won't like his alcoholism.

I'm a little surprised that Jonas Jr. is ready to be a one-woman deformed-former-absorbed-fetus-man and settle doen with the clingy Sally.

Loved the episode! While everyone's complaining it was off I thought it had everything going for it! The beginning was particularly awesome.

I'm glad after the Fallen Arches episode, so much potential there but the main storyline just didn't do it for me. The Monarch subplot, on the other hand, was pure gold.

Anyone else notice that Brock is definately more tame this season? The only time he ever when on a crazy psycho killing spree was in V.E.N., and even THAT was mild (aside from the nudity). I thought of this because something's been bugging me all season about Brock, and then he mentioned how he kicked Bud's ass in season 1 at the drop of a hat. Now he just took Manstrong's verbal abuse without action...very non-Brock to me...

Bud Manstrong is a bitch. He's a fucking faggot-ass punk who couldn't get no pussy in over 6 years. How the fuck do you pass out during a hand-job?????????I'd be wide fucking awake during that shit. But let me stop making fun of his bitch-ass. He's kinda like "The Waterboy" where the reason why he's so girlish is because his mom owns him. This was another good episode. I have a fuckin' splitting headache so I'm not going to make this long but this was another one of the classics. What's up with all you guys sayin' this episode is mediocore and shit like that???? This fucking episode was funny as hell!!! Excellent moments + Exceptional writing + Hilarious Characters = Your typical episode of The Venture Bros. and this was no different. I loved this show, although I can easily say that even though I was ecstatic the first watch, the second two times I watched it were slightly less hilarious.

It's cool to see that everyone who watched liked it for different parts.

Personally I love Manstrong's angry rants, and his complete lack of real insults, or his not having a clue what Brock was talking about. Brock, although tame (he was at the White House after all - like he said), was gold when it came to Manstrong and his mom. The President was awesome, Doctor Venture was actually on the ball this time around, and the boys had a successful adventure, plus the Jonas Jr. cameo was nicely played.

It was a really solid standalone episode. The only continuity bits were Sally and Ned at Spider-Skull Island.

Did anyone else think "Hauser" was supposed to be Duke from G.I. Joe? (Duke - file name: Conrad Hauser)

Didn't care for the maid character or the repetitive club soda jokes. I've never met anyone around DC with that accent. It was like a female version of tiny lawyer, who had (next to Darrell Hammond on SNL's "Appalachian Emergency Room") the worst Southern accent ever feigned.

I also thought the soundtrack became distracting at times.

But the boys and Lincoln - that was unbelivably funny stuff.

Let's agree to agree. You both smoke colossal pole.

Now onto the episode: not the best. Near the bottom in terms of epsiode rankings actually. But STILL ridiculously good.

This program is an absolute treasure - when it succeeds it is honoring the defining theme of exploring failure through a portal of nostalgia. When it strays from this theme (Rusty makes something that works, Brock chills out, the boys aren't CONSTANTLY rattling off stupid non-sequiturs) it is easy to see where the viewer isn't immediately satisfied. There is good in this episode, it's just mixed in there with other stuff.

You know, the past three episodes left me a little cold at first but subsequent viewings changed my opinion of them from "Just Good" to "Very Good" with Fallen Arches approaching "Great."

I think Victor.Echo.November set the bar really high. Part of why it was so funny was that it centered around character relationships, especially the love triangle between Phantom Limb, Monarch and Dr. Girlfriend.

Love-Bheits, Fallen Arches, and Guess Who's Coming to State Dinner have felt more like stand alone adventure-based episodes with Fallen Arches being the stand out thanks to The Order of the Triad.

That being said, I like State Dinner a lot more now that I've seen it again, especially the stuff with Lincoln. I just wish we could have had more of JJ and the Captain.

Weird, I can save the video files directly off Adult Swim Fix. Since Microsoft decided to stop supporting Windows Media Player on the Mac, they've started offering a third-party Quicktime plug-in called Flip4Mac that lets me save the streaming videos as self contained movie files. I've got nearly all the current season episodes on my computer that way, other than one that I had to get a torrent of.

Apple also offers them for purchase from iTunes, but I haven't needed to get one there yet.

Okay, Venturoos. Here's what ya get for the Extras, at least on the DVD version. I felt it was a little light, but that's just my opinion. Deleted Scenes (as always) - Some are B&W sketches with the dialog, others are animated with the dialog. Ghost in the Pro-Blem - An extended view of the distorted images of events from the Pro-BLEM's point of view. Maybe there are some clues hidden in it if you like frame-by-frame advancing. Maybe not. Sirena Goes Off... - Cristin Milioti ad-libbing way more dialog than the script calls for. Poor Rocco. Promo - Basically the season 7 promo. Maybe there's Easter Eggs to find. I haven't done any extensive searching yet. If anyone finds any feel free to post them here!
