Now, obvious not always... but quite often the shirts will use in house animation designs from the episode proper.
Meaning, Doc Hammer already made that design and somebody put it on the can once the animation comes back from Korea.
Then they take the file with the design in it and put it on a shirt.
The BM shirt was also just key prop animation from the magazine cover.
