Well, he used the Investors to save his own life; I'm not sure that's such a bad thing. In The Silent Partners I thought he was genuinely likeable. And while he could have forced Billy to operate on him on pain of death he actually returned the favour with a diploma and three prostitutes. He clearly has some amount of honour and fair play.
