So it was announced today that "Green Lantern" was canceled by CN b/c they couldn't get toys made to sell in stores.

See how important merch. sales are now????
So please go buy "the Venture Bros" dvd's/blu-rays and toys today.
Buy them a second time if you already have them, and give V Bros. stuff as gifts.

It's time to get VENTURE with it.

I wasn't going to buy the toys but you've convinced me! Looks like my son will have VB action figures in his Easter basket

If you want to get technical, a lot of animated shows with guaranteed toy sale tie-ins (such as anything with super heroes) will animate the show at a loss because they can make up the difference (and then some) with merchandise sales. That's why a lot of shows on Cartoon Network have pretty high budgets compared to Adult Swim shows.

Something like Venture Bros. traditionally had to make back its money based on advertising and DVD sales, which is why Adult Swim shows often have very small budgets. I think that's less of the case now, but merchandising is still likely a pretty small portion of what the show can take in. The most important stuff is to get people watching it and buying DVDs/Blu-Rays. Buying action figures will cause more action figures to exist, but it probably won't cause the show to go away.

CN had a Green Lantern series? You wouldn't have known that from their advertising. It seemed like all they ever promoted was Gumball. Regular Show and the dreadful Adventure Time. They threw away the first half of the second season of Scooby Do Mystery Incorporated by running it early afternoons with no advertising. CN advertising is the worst.
