The Diamond Dogs may be a reference to a short story by Alastair Reynolds, a Sci Fi author. In the story, two humans become cyborgs which ultimately resemble long lean greyhounds covered with a tough carbon skin - the diamond dogs.

I'm not familiar with that particular Reynolds story, but regardless, the Diamond Dogs is a David Bowie reference.
