Brock is a great bodyguard and a poor Assassin. In Assassinany 911 he is ordered to kill Hunter, and does not. In ORB Hunter tells Brock that if Rusty tries to activate the device, then Brock must "take him out". In the museum Brock puts away his knife when he hears Rusty talk of using ORB for good. One would have to "activate the device" to use ORB, even with the best of intentions. Lloyd Venture had good intentions for ORB, yet Sandow "knew what he had to do". Jonas Sr. is a man of hope, and likely had good intentions for ORB, yet Kano took from this world a great man. I really don't want the show to lose Rusty Venture, but by rights, Brock should have ended Rusty there in the museum. We know that Brock is not fond of the moral ambiguity that is thrust upon members of the Office of Secret Intellegence. I also would have no love for such messy tasks.

I think Brock was waiting to see if Doc would use it, and once Doc gave his speech Brock concluded that he had no plans to use the ORB, and thus didn't need to be killed... just like in the flashback Colonel Venture didn't need to be killed until he actually decided to use the ORD...

Right. It's not that Doc planned on using it "for good," it's that he suspected his father must have hidden it away for a reason, and so out of respect to the superior scientist Jonas was, Rusty won't be activating it either.

and how did these other scientists add to ORB without knowing what it was? Crowley said his genius was added most recently - what could he have done to it and still not know what it was for or how to activate it?

this is a big, fat puzzle.
