I believe the effeminate looking man with hair to his shoulders was the later mentioned playwright Oscar Wilde, and there was of course occultist Alestair Crowley, and Mr. Fantomos, which I believe to be either the father or grandfather of Phantom Limb.

probably grandfather. after all, col. venture has to at least be rusty's grandfather, and rusty and phantom limb are a similar age.

There was; Phantom Limb referred to it, and his being the "last son in a long line of costumed adventurers" while illustrating his birth defects to Billy.

The appearance of Phantom Limb's costume and his own testimony defintiely imply he was passed over to be The Phantom: the Ghost who walks because of his deformity. No skull ring for him ! When he taught at state college he was known as Professor Phantomos though that may have been an alias.

Rusty once said his own father Thadeuss, was a super scientist, and his father before him, and his father...no wait... he was a milliner (a hat maker).
