i'm 99% sure they dropped this episode right at comicon time for a reason.
the whole gag about the charging for autographs/photos is an experience the guys had at comicon (last year?) and i think they were definitely spoofing on that.
Also, the large grouping of weird people dressed up in costumes. does that SCREAM comicon to me only? isn't that EXACTLY what comicon is? a bunch of awkward people running around in costumes causing scenes?

I didn't really make that comicon connection, but I have to admit it does make a lot of sense.
The autograph scene actually marks the second joke of this nature so far this season (the first being Brock's criticism of Doc in The Buddy System) and according to Doc and Jackson's commentary the whole idea is based on Dana Shneider's experience at Dragoncon a couple of years back.
