Oh, and also (not to add an unnecessary thread to the board, but I find it curious...):
Given the fact that the Guild was around when Rusty was a boy, there's no way in hell Hatred was instrumental in starting the Guild. It just wouldn't time out right. He's not in the Council and he's not a higher-up. Clearly he's been arching for a long time, but that's all.
SO - why exactly would he have been *assigned* to Venture? Why would a veteran villain be given Venture, of all people, as an assignment?
Clearly he has his own vendetta against the Monarch, but that has nothing to do with the Guild. Would he *really* have bothered to pull the strings to get Venture as an arch, when the Guild would have likely assigned him someone else, and reserved Venture for some lesser villain?
Think about it. As far as the Guild is concerned, The Monarch and Dr. Mrs. The Monarch are a-okay. They wouldn't be alright with Hatred doing some counter-intelligence job simply to appease some grudge over stolen goods.
Not that they don't make mistakes. Clearly Phantom Limb was initially as stupid as they didn't think he was, given the whole Manotaur thing. (It's worth noting that Manotaur is shown in full costume in the character designs for this season, so I suspect he either teams up with Limb to avenge his name against The Monarch or he does it on his own.)
So what would Hatred's *real* reason be for arching Venture? It's food for thought. I wonder if it doesn't have more to do with Brock. Either that, or the Guild gives suck-ass assignments to villains who've been working for them for *at least* 20 years, which seems unlikely. Jun. 22, 2008, 3:11pm

Maybe the assignment is Hatred's punishment for his past "inappropriate behavior." Although if that's the case, the Guild should probably have chosen a target without children.
Also, I got the impression that Hatred is kind of over-the-hill and a little complacent. Maybe assigning him to Venture is the Guild's way of putting him out to pasture. Jun. 23, 2008, 8:44am

The Guild was founded in 1910, so I don't know why anyone would think Sargent Hatred had anything to do with starting it. There's not the slightest hint that Hatred is anything more than a dues paying member of the Guild.
Brock gave no indication of recognizing Hatred from his days at OSI, though. Either he already recognized who Hatred was years ago and so doesn't really care or think about it anymore, or it's another one of those cartoon conventions where characters don't recognize each other when in costume, or something.
