I'm geeking out after reading a comment from Jackson Publick on Todd Alcott's blog:
Nope...but Impossible did have a scene in an earlier draft, in which he was seen packing up his office, having just been fired from the University for dating a student named "Sally," which gave Fantomas the head chair of the science department. One of Fantomas's students had ratted him out. The scene was cut for time and because Colbert was writing his book and was unavailable. At that point we still thought we'd be getting him back later in the season, though.

Apologies for the double post, but after reading Todd Alcott's blog and some comments, I'm worried about an inconsitency.
Fact: Rusty Venture and his father had adventures involving the Guild of Calimtos Intent. We know this much because Father Venture signed a treaty with them and even created the Rusty claus (Are you there God, It's me Dean).
FACT: In the current time frame, with Rusty as an adult, the Guild is considered a myth, only good for childrens story of the Adventures of the Ventures!
So, was the guild real? We're the adventures that the original Venture clan had real, then somehow spun into a children's cartoon? Maybe that's the agreement Venture Sr. made. Maybe he negotiated with the Guild that as long as they implemented some basic rules to protect his family, their very existence would be hidden and written off as a TV show. Jun. 17, 2008, 5:24pm

Remember the people in Venture Brothers are all "insiders" - members of the OSI, or of the GCI, or affiliated with one or the other or with various "connected" super scientists, super villains, super heros, etc. What these people know, is not what the general public knows. So it isn't a contradiction for the GCI to be secret, but also for some people (like Rusty) to know of its existence. Probably some time after the OSI discovered/rediscovered the existance of the GCI, the OSI and other law enforement agencies came to a kind of "modus vivendi" with the GCI, as Brock mentions in "The Trial of the Monarch".

Remember also for a long time, FBI chief J. Edgar Hoover denied that the Mafia existed. Just because the OSI circa 1989 officially doesn't believe that the GCI exists, doesn't mean that the GCI doesn't exist, nor does it mean that the OSI is being honest about what it really believes.

Remember that when Billy questioned about the Guild both Brock and Gathers got defensive referring to the Rusty Venture Cartoon Show as a "Dramatization of real events."
Though I just realized that this means that there is probably a Johnny Quest cartoon show in the Venture Brothers series. Jun. 17, 2008, 8:36pm

FACT: we know that OSI has been infiltrated (at the very least by Sgt. Haine / Hatred), and that both Brock and Col. Gathers were transferred to separate, low profile posts after their efforts to expose the Guild.
So it's entirely plausible that the Guild is very real, but is making great efforts to keep their existence a secret. Jun. 20, 2008, 8:44am
