Jackson Publick on The Season 5 Premiere, SDCC And More

Introducing the latest entry in my ever growing series of interviews with Venture Bros. co-creator Jackson Publick. Jackson was nice enough to let me ask all the tough questions nobody asked at Comic-Con including a bunch of stuff on season 5 and some convention-specific stuff.

In the biggest news, however is on the season 5 premiere, which Jackson revealed, in a Mantis-Eye World Exclusive, will be a full hour-long episode. He also cleared up any remaining confusion over the Halloween special's format (it's 22 minutes and part of the 10-episode season) and answered many more questions that I should probably know better than to ask at this point. Read the SDCC Wrap-Up Interview with Jackson Publick to find out all the details!

So, a couple of things come to mind. #1, Thank you for this interview Mike! This kind of attention and effort is what makes The Mantis-Eye the best fansite around, as it has been for all these years now.

#2, There was too much awesome from Jackson to narrow down anything specific. So, I will just say that Season 5 sounds like it is going to be an awesome experience.

#3, The only down side is hearing about how all the background artists have been pushed so hard this season....it makes the wait for Jackson to put the art on his livejournal all the more harder. This show has the most beautiful, detailed, and unique look to maybe any cartoon ever so seeing all the background art in high res is a real treat.

Firstly, Jackson thank you so much for writing, directing, and making what is easily the best animated show on T.V. that has ever been made.

Secondly, know that to simply hear the Halloween special is not 11 minutes (but full length) nor animated in (NYC) but in Korea... is literally making me cry!

Thrid, it sounds like you really pushed the pre-production titmouse animation crew to all new heights.. I'm excited.

Fourth, it sounds like you are really having a blast giving us all new eps to enjoy, the prospect of more and more hour long episodes is giving me crazy joygasms!

Fifth, thank you for listening to the fans by giving us more hour long specials, no more 11 minute specials, and no more NYC animated eps (no offense) as I'm sure Titmouse does pre-production much better than full animation (as it's obviously to expensive to do animation in the USA tthat looks truly good, fluid, and traditional).

Sixth, Biffbangpow has also answered the fans requests... this means more money for you... and you deserve it dammit.

Jackson, thank you.. and may (your) god bless you.

GO TEAM VENTURE; FOREVER!!!

I hope all you fans are ready... it's about to get amazing!

All the information is fantastic in that interview. Hour-long premiere! Full new episode in October! They are excited to continue the Ventureverse into season 6! The change to Titmouse has been smooth and helpful in making the show! Awesome!

I'm a little confused why episode #2 happens during the episode #1 timeline....I'm sure it will make more sense when I see them and instantly love them.

I concur with Jackson....who cares if [as] provides travel/lodging for them for all the Con's?

Haha, I just thought it would be funny to ask a bunch of weird questions. Truthfully I always feel like I am asking too few things when I write up the questions so I pad them with a bunch of extra, sillier ones partially to have extra content and partially because I think they're funny and then when I finally get it written up it's way longer than I was expecting anyway.

This one is sort of more evident though because there's a lot of great content in there thanks to Jackson providing great answers and then there's still my collection of dumb questions.

Well keep it up! Weird questions are always hit or miss with any interviewee/reader and most of them over the years have been very good. The reasoning makes sense and it helps the readers feel like we know Jackson & Doc better.

Just curious. Does the hour-long season opener count as one or two of the ten episodes for the season?

One of the things I said (bitched) was that if season 5 was only 10 eps, there better be an hour premier and an hour finale.

So Basically, with an hour long opener, a Halloween special, and an hour long in-between special... the season is the same length as season 1-3, lol!!!!!!

Oh Jackson, you try and do less... but you end up doing more.

We love you.

May have to re-read the interview, but I think the Halloween special counts as on of the 10...

It does, but think about it.. 10 episodes and the first one's and hour long... then a break for awhile and then the hour special airs... that's 13 just like every other season (except for four).

By my math, that's 12. There'd have to be another hour-long ep. If there isn't, I'll be doing a whole lot of complaining.

For argument sake, let's say a hour long episode counts as two episodes.

It's either 11 shows or 13... I dunno where the fuck you got 12 from.

See, the Halloween ep counts as one of the 10.

So, it's ten eps plus an hour long special that will air way later in-between seasons... which equals 11.

Or if you count the hour long opener and the hour long season bridge special it's 13.

Game, Match, Set.

Opps I made a few typos, I simply meant if you count each hour long ep as two eps (which they are in fact double length) it's 13.

Or if you count each ep (no matter how long it is) as one, then it's only 11.

The Halloween one is part of the 10... but we have two eps that will be an hour long.. so I count those as two each, you see.

Let me break it down like this:

1 Halloween, 2A, 2B, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8, 9, 10, 11A, and 11B = 13
22 min length eps... all I was trying to say.

I know it's confusing.

It's 11 or 13 eps.... whichever you'd like.

I mean I guess some people won't count the hour long bridge ep as in the same season, as I assume it will air months later... maybe even in 2014.

But I do.

And I wasn't trying to be an ass, I'm just sick of everyone telling me I'm always wrong.

10 episiodes. 2 are an hour long.

So those two are 2 eps each. That's 4.

4 plus the remaining 8, that's twelve.

Good Zeus, Almighty. You're taking this way to personally, and I'm not even trolling...

Oh dude, it's not your fault... Jackson has been confusing everyone with his news updates.

Theres actually 1 in 2012, 9 in 2013, and 1 in late 2013 or 2014.

Yet they keep saying ten, of course people are going to get confused as fuck.

What we know: the Halloween ep is one of the 10, and the 2013 opener is an hour long; as is the 2013/2014 mega special.

It's confusing as fuck.

It's confusing shit, period.

You don't have to say sorry.

Just watch the show when it airs and love it.

Also please buy the megos, they keep getting pushed back due to lack of pre-orders!

I'm sorry to you and to post so damn much.

Just please understand V Bros. is the only thing I still give a fuck about in this wonderful world of 2012 bullshit.

Again.. please, buy all the toys Biffbangpow! puts out.

Thanks.

Peace and Love,
Billy421.

Okay, Venturoos. Here's what ya get for the Extras, at least on the DVD version. I felt it was a little light, but that's just my opinion. Deleted Scenes (as always) - Some are B&W sketches with the dialog, others are animated with the dialog. Ghost in the Pro-Blem - An extended view of the distorted images of events from the Pro-BLEM's point of view. Maybe there are some clues hidden in it if you like frame-by-frame advancing. Maybe not. Sirena Goes Off... - Cristin Milioti ad-libbing way more dialog than the script calls for. Poor Rocco. Promo - Basically the season 7 promo. Maybe there's Easter Eggs to find. I haven't done any extensive searching yet. If anyone finds any feel free to post them here!
