Let's Watch: Tag Sale, You're It!
We're back with a fresh new Let's Watch. It's extreme and in your face! Okay, actually it's not. However it is here in anticipation of the classic season one episode, "Tag Sale, You're It!" which many believe to one of the highlights of the series! It's also a genuinely excellent starter episode if you are looking to get some friends into Venture Bros. The episode airs Saturday at 11:30pm eastern and pacific time (other timezones adjust accordingly) though it will sadly not re-air later in the night/morning. Talk about it here in the comments and relive the awesome glorious days of yesteryear!

Already preordered!
Also, I keep forgrtting about VB being on Saturday night now. That was a horrible move!
As good as this episode is. There are a number of continuity errors which have been touched upon before. The biggest being the conversation between Dr. Gilrfriend and Phantom Limb. Especially when you consider the events in Shadowman 9. Feb. 6, 2011, 7:07am

Well, these problems with continuity are actually just problems with what Dr. Girlfriend tells the Monarch and what he allows her to know. In 'Shadowman 9', it is revealed that Monarch worked for Phantom Limb but Dr. Girlfriend did not know. Monarch could not ever reveal his past without exposing himself as a liar, if you have ever been with a woman you would know that once a lie is established, you must protect it from her knowing. Knowing this the Monarch would be hard put to acknowledge her employ with Phantom Limb. Dude. You can not poke holes in JP and Doc's work, they cover their bases too well. If you do not believe, just watch from the beginning. They are very capable storytellers. If you believe otherwise then you are a philistine who needs to go back to middle school English.

Actually the backstory on Dr. Girlfriend is a little confused. We've learned that she was introduced to super-villainy by Phantom Limb when he was still prof. Phantomas and was dating her. But instead of becoming his "Dr. Girlfriend" she goes off as a solo Lady Au Pair, then later Numbering Two-ing for Truckulese and maybe others before reuniting with Phantom Limb as Queen Etheria. At which point the Monarch, then shadowman #9 seduces her and takes her away as Dr. Girlfriend. In Tag Sale, You're It she claims not to know who Phantom Limb but obviously she does and The Monarch ought to know that she does.
This is like the Monarch claiming they're swingers when most of the time he's complaining that people can see her...."dirty pillows!" Feb. 7, 2011, 1:20pm

The issue is the Monarch knows she knows Phantom Limb and she knows that he knows that. The night he seduced her, he was The Monarch, so he couldn't not know she was Phantom Limb's #2, as it was Phantom Limb's party in the first place. Doesn't take anything away from it but it is an inconsistancy.

Well, Phantom Limb offered to #2 for HER. That didn't make much sense that he'd be willing to step down as a top Guild villian to be a #2. Especially when she was just his #2 not all that long before. And he never had her do much anyway other than be seen with him while wearing her costume. Then he wants to let her lead and he follows? I just chalk it all up to Doc and JP changing some of the backstory as the show and characters eveloved.

THANKS TO JACKSON AND THE DOC!
Just wanted to say a heartfelt thanks for a cartoon that has become near and dear to me.
I lost my job last year - depression and insomnia soon followed. Many a venture-thon
kept me from going crazy or worse. From the original pilot to Operation: PROM, you
guys have kept me smiling and sane. Forever grateful, guys! Here's to as many seasons
of VB as you can put forth! Beangrud PS - More Hank! =) Apr. 13, 2011, 8:38pm
