AV Club's Top 30 TV Series' of the Aughts

Obviously I wouldn't be reporting on this if The Venture Bros. wasn't on this list, so let's just cut to the chase. It's in spot twenty-six:

If The Venture Bros. wasn't the best show of the 2000s, it was at least the most unexpected: Debuting on a network best known for funny-but-dust-thin stoner comedy, it quickly evolved into one of the most emotionally involving shows on television, showing real character growth, genuine depth of feeling, and a hefty thematic obsession with failure and disappointment.

You can also check out the full list instead of skipping directly to page three.

I was literally coming here just now to draw your attention to this. :P

Tim and Eric Awesome Show Great Job also made the list. I do love that show (in its own way) but that was a true shocker to me.

Venture, of course, deserves to be there, and I would have raised hell in the comments section if I didn't see it listed.

Now if we could just get AV Club's episode reviews to quit bitching about how out-of-place Sgt Hatred feels...

I absolutely loath Tim & Eric.I have watched it and still don't see humor in it. How could this rate above VB?

Despite the numbering of the list, it's not in order of quality.

They do this often at the AV Club. They'll make a list of "10 Such-and-Such" and number the list, and then spend ages in the comments section reminding people not to get upset, as the numbers aren't rankings.

One would think they'd just STOP NUMBERING THE THINGS in order to avoid confusion, but there you go.

Tim and Eric is not better than Venture Bros., and you can rest assured that they didn't mean to imply that it was.

I adore me some Venture, but I have to say T&E is a close second the Venture's number 1 position on my list. Or maybe Dexter. But Awesome Show! is up there.

Decent list. I don't get T&E either but I've heard the next season is the last. Some good choices otherwise though.

Next is the last? Thank God, I aways thought they have pictures of Lazlow hacking a prostitute into small pieces in a bathtub with Ted Turner and that's how they're keeping the show on the air.

I love T&E, but your theory seems shockingly likely.

I'm glad that they separate VB from most of the rest of the crap that's on AS:

"Debuting on a network best known for funny-but-dust-thin stoner comedy..."

10 months is about average for most productions. South Park just has a really fast turnaround due to the software they use and the fact that almost everything happens in one building. Most shows have a place for storyboarding/writing, another for voice recording, then have the bulk of the animation done somewhere else (usually overseas). After they get that back, they check it for animation errors, any of which are sent back for redoing. Then they score and foley the episode, edit it down for time and any content issues before finally being finished.

April Fools! I learned so much on the website. I had no idea mantids were so awesome; although ghost mantis creeps me out. Also was warned that "mantidies are our lords and masters" and "there is no stopping them" and "recommend buying a flame thrower"...this is all good to know ahead of time. Lisa is a prophet!

Lets help Mike keep the notes section of each episode's page as complete as possible. There are lots of references that are not included on those pages; point out what should be added so Mike can add it!
