Tears of a Capsule

It's up! You guys know what to do. Also I put up another poll where you can pick your favorite episode of the second third of the season. Or if you are too lazy to click you can vote in the sidebar over to the right.

You may want to remove this:
"More notes to come when the episode actually airs!"

Also, you're right about cuttlefish being aggressive, which is why I assumed that Dugong was saying "cuddlefish." It'd go along both with Dugong's love-and-caring personality, and the frequency of puns these heroes and villains seem to make use of to reinforce their particular identities.

I agree with Phil that Dr. Dugong was likely saying "Cuddlefish" as a pun. Also something to consider: when Dermott is putting the lighter up his ass he says something along the lines of 'no goes in through my out door'. This could be in reference to the fact that they are listening to a tape that Hank borrowed from Brock, which if you look back at "Eeny, Meeny, Miney...Magic!', is probably Led Zeppelin's 'In Through the Out Door'. A clever reference by Doc right there.

Also, no mention of the infamous "weenis" reference yet.

I'm pretty sure it's a reference to a Mr. Show episode with a gay metal band, episode 403, "Show Me Your Weenis!".

It's pretty damn funny, and I'm glad that they put that in there.

Maybe add my comment from the other board about the Monarch's cannon using the old Autobot laser-gun sound effect? :)

Oh, and:
"The Monarch: Nark on me"

It should be spelled "narc." It's slang, or something, for a narcotics officer. Disparaging.

Nark was being used in England long before narcotics were illegal. It means a snitch, a rat.

I stand corrected. Slightly, anyway. :-P
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Narc_(Narcotics)

Seems the more common spelling today is "narc," but it was ORIGINALLY spelled "nark," which, itself, is still an acceptable variant.

So, as far as I can tell, neither is more correct than the other. My mistake.

Oh yes, the usage and spelling you give is also correct, for at least the past half century or so (I would bet it dates back to the criminalization of narcotics in the early 20th century). But the other is older: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Nark

Just out of curiosity - do you ever actually add the references that we point out here to the episode capsule? I know some are questionable but you missed a bunch in What Goes Up and Dr. Quymn that were pointed out by the likes of us here in the comments, but you didn't actually add any of them to the notes in the capsules. Just wondering.

I do try to add as many as I think are feasible, though a lot of things people point out are debatable references and I don't post any of those unless I am 100% sure (such as being able to find an exact quote somewhere). I do miss some, and other times I don't add stuff right away because I'm busy with other things (I actually went back and added a couple things from Dr. Quymn like a week ago).

It's sort of a tough thing to call sometimes, because a lot of people sometimes think there is a reference when there isn't actually one (the number of times I have seen Jackson himself say that something pointed out was an unintentional reference are numerous) because the show has so many.

Also I don't do it on purpose or to hurt anyone's feelings or anything. There aren't any breaks in the airings this season and writing the capsule/notes and getting screenshots takes me a couple of days and I don't always want to spend all my free time figuring out what references are 'real' and which aren't. It's a tough thing to get right, and I don't want to flood the notes with an over-abundance of information.

Anyway the short answer is I'll get around to it eventually. I'm very busy at my actual job right now, plus I have a freelance (paid) project I am working on and this site plus attempting to not totally ignore my girlfriend. You know how it is.

My feelings aren't hurt. I was just wondering about the whole process. I totally understand that you're a busy dude and just the fact that you take the time to put this site together is an awesome service to us fans! I do want to thank you for your hard work. I also understand the problems in validating some of the reference claims, but I do enjoy the notes sections (my personal favorite part of the capsules) because they often point out or clear up references that I missed.

I think the Monarch saying he saw Tim-Tom and Kevin peeing in corners is a reference to Vern "Mini-Me" Troyer's stint on The Surreal Life. He got drunk one night and started peeing in the corner of one of the rooms.

In your capsule for Tears you write "...Just then the moppets (dressed up as what I can only assume are grubs)". I think the (former?) moppets are each dressed as pupa of a Monarch. Dr. Dugong refers to them as the "pupa twins". It seems they have been outfitted to match their new family.

Dermott definitely mentions the movie Gymkata when he and Hank are screwing around in the bedroom. And no joke, Gymkata is seriously the worst martial arts movie I have ever seen.

I'm rewatching the episode, and it's reminding me strongly of one of the things Doc and Jackson were talking about in the Season 2 commentary (possibly from Fallen Arches?) - about how kids do stuff like putting on plays, publishing a home newspaper, etc. before they discover masturbation. The scene where Dean describes the upcoming Venture compound feature, and Dermott makes the wanking hand-gesture, seems like a deliberate self-reference of that discussion.

Okay, Venturoos. Here's what ya get for the Extras, at least on the DVD version. I felt it was a little light, but that's just my opinion. Deleted Scenes (as always) - Some are B&W sketches with the dialog, others are animated with the dialog. Ghost in the Pro-Blem - An extended view of the distorted images of events from the Pro-BLEM's point of view. Maybe there are some clues hidden in it if you like frame-by-frame advancing. Maybe not. Sirena Goes Off... - Cristin Milioti ad-libbing way more dialog than the script calls for. Poor Rocco. Promo - Basically the season 7 promo. Maybe there's Easter Eggs to find. I haven't done any extensive searching yet. If anyone finds any feel free to post them here!
