For most of today this site will be dark in protest of US Stop Online Piracy Act (SOPA) and the US Protect IP Act (PIPA). Even though the majority of Americans oppose it, congress wants to censor the Internet as an anti-piracy measure. This potentially includes websites that don't actually promote piracy at all (such as this site). Just as you are unable to use this site as you normally would today, the power could be granted to by the US government to shut off any website for whatever reason they see fit.
I've chosen to join much, much larger sites such as Google, Wikipedia, Reddit and many, many more on this day of protest in hopes of raising awareness on this most important of issues. I thank you for your understanding and for your support.
