AV Club's Top 30 TV Series' of the Aughts

Obviously I wouldn't be reporting on this if The Venture Bros. wasn't on this list, so let's just cut to the chase. It's in spot twenty-six:

If The Venture Bros. wasn't the best show of the 2000s, it was at least the most unexpected: Debuting on a network best known for funny-but-dust-thin stoner comedy, it quickly evolved into one of the most emotionally involving shows on television, showing real character growth, genuine depth of feeling, and a hefty thematic obsession with failure and disappointment.

You can also check out the full list instead of skipping directly to page three.

For those of you who missed it when it aired on TV here it is:

Please Send Wooden Gifts

As the little crest thingy at the top left of the site indicates, this site is five years old today! Five years old in conception anyway. The actual five year mark is December 7th since that's when I launched the site waaay back in 2004. It's entirely ridiculous to think about the last five years of my life and realize one of the few consistent things was this site, but there you go. Also the fact that I actually had enough of an attention span to keep it up for so long is impressive.

I don't have much more to say about it for now, but over the next month or two I'll be attempting to celebrate this exercise in back-pattery as much as much as possible with awesomely interesting historical info, giveaways and maybe even special guest appearances. Maybe. Stay tuned! Season four is currently stealing my thunder, so there's also that.

Return to Malice Discussion

Welcome back to Malice! Home of many a super villain and also a wonderful potluck every second Thursday. I probably made up that last part. Anyway, here's your weekly discussion thread where you can talk about this week's episode . You guys no doubt know the drill by now, spoilers in the comments, episode is on at midnight easter and pacific, rate the episode on the capsule page, enjoy the show!

Update (11/9 6:55pm) - The episode is up on Adult Swim Video now. Enjoy!

Return to Malice: Sunday at Midnight

As if any more reminders were needed, the next episode of Venture Bros., Return to Malice, is on tomorrow night at midnight, the usual time. Same Bat-time, same Bat-channel and all that.

And my pilot's license is only rated for a single engine craft.

What's up, dingus? The capsule for Perchance to Dean is up, and not a moment to soon, I say. Feel free to make any corrections/additions in the comments here, or via email if you're into that sort of thing. I also finally updated the Handsome Ransom notes with a bunch of stuff people pointed out.

Return To Malice Preview

If that sneak peek clip wasn't enough for you, check out Adult Swim's promo for the episode:

Many thanks to long-time visitor The Mysterious 'H' for posting that.

Exciting Accoutrements

If you've been paying attention to Adult Swim's store this week you may have noticed a pretty big influx of Venture-related merchandise. Granted they said they were going to do this on Adult Swim during a bump, but maybe you missed that or are absent minded or something. Either way here's a list of some of the most recent Venture Bros. related items:
  • Pair of Black Hearts Shot Glasses ($15.00) - Ceramic and sporting the same logo from the shirt last season.

  • iPod and iPhone Skins ($10.00) - Comes in iPhone/iPod Touch and iPod Classic/iPod Video flavors and sports the logo from the soundtrack.

  • Magnet Set ($15.00) - Kind of similar to the set of patches, you get four magnets, soundtrack skull logo, Monarch logo, Team Venture logo (the new one, not the classic) and one of a portion of DVD art from season one.

  • Sgt. Hatred Water Bottle ($15.00) - Fancy black bottle with Sgt. Hatred's logo. Potentially made out of either plastic or possibly steel. Hard to tell!
Sadly I don't get any cut of the profits for promoting these, but you should still buy them anyway because you'll be the coolest kid of the playground. Maybe not the magnets, but the water bottle will make you cool for sure.

Return to Malice Clip: Rocket and Sun Choke

Seems like it's going to be something of a trend this season, but on AOL Videos you can find a clip from the upcoming episode called Return to Malice. Many thanks to Red Menace in the comments for pointing that out.

New Ledger Podcast with James Urbaniak

And some other guy (Ben Domenech). Check out the latest New Ledger podcast for an interview with James, which is mostly about the Venture Bros but also about laughing a lot. Enjoy! Thanks to @bdomenech on the Twitter for that.

Okay, Venturoos. Here's what ya get for the Extras, at least on the DVD version. I felt it was a little light, but that's just my opinion. Deleted Scenes (as always) - Some are B&W sketches with the dialog, others are animated with the dialog. Ghost in the Pro-Blem - An extended view of the distorted images of events from the Pro-BLEM's point of view. Maybe there are some clues hidden in it if you like frame-by-frame advancing. Maybe not. Sirena Goes Off... - Cristin Milioti ad-libbing way more dialog than the script calls for. Poor Rocco. Promo - Basically the season 7 promo. Maybe there's Easter Eggs to find. I haven't done any extensive searching yet. If anyone finds any feel free to post them here!
