An Evening With Jackson Publick at MoCCA

If you're in the New York City area around April 22nd consider heading over to The Museum of Comic & Cartoon Art for an event featuring Jackson Publick. It's at 7pm and admission is $5 (or free if you're a member). Aside from scenes from the show you'll get to hear Jackson's thoughts on the evolution of The Venture Bros. over the years as well as an audience Q&A at the end. Thanks to The Venture Bros. Blog for the news.

Egg On Your Face: The Yolk's On You

I like to think all the work I've put into this place over the years has made it fairly successful. It's been a pretty great learning experience for me in a number of ways.

Well, if you came here April 1st, 2010, you witnessed something that I would probably consider a colossal failure. Instead of my usual run-of-the-mill April Fools' joke I went with something slightly more ambitious.

Instead some people saw it and nobody really got very far, and zero people completed it. This is mainly because I failed to communicate exactly what was going on, or provide any real context for the game. In memory of this wondrous event, and as a way of adding more content to the ol' Five Years o' Mantis Eyes, I wrote a postmortem of the whole ordeal. Some of it may be boring (there are charts), but if you don't really care much about that, there's also juicy blasts from the past in the form of my less ambitious but better executed April Fools' jokes. It's like a history lesson! Enjoy!

Fancy seeing you here. Or did you not really want to leave?

Jackson's New Digs

Just when you thought there was nothing left to talk about Jackson comes along with a massive update about season 4.5. There's screenshots, there's news about what they've been up to, there's stuff about the upcoming episodes, there are chills and thrills and spills and a new theme for the place.

So we called the network and asked them if they'd give us the time and money to take the script back and turn it into a one-hour special. And they said yes. Which brings us to...

Also even Jackson doesn't know when the season will start up again, so the August date seems potentially likely. Maybe. Go check it out for more info.

We're All Out of Twitters

For those of you hoping to win something in my latest Twitter scheme, sadly it's over. However you can still follow @mantiseye for all your Venture Bros. news and information that's 140 characters or fewer. You won't win anything for it, but if you're a Twitter type of person and a Venture Bros. type of person it might just be a fit!

This isn't the last giveaway by a long shot, either, there will be at least one more around when season four starts up again in August, along with other extras and features, after all don't forget it's still the fifth year celebration. Until then you'll just have to sit tight, but you guys are used to that.

Jackson & Doc At Dragon*Con '10

Jackson & Doc were added to the Dragon*Con guest list on the 18th, so for those of you attending the Atlanta-based convention (which may or may not involve actual dragons) it seems likely that our two favorite creator/writers will be hosting a panel there. No panel schedules have been released yet, but Dragon*Con takes place between September 3rd and 6th this year, shortly after season four is set to resume.

High Above The Surface Of The Moon

From the blog of Annie Wu:

I decided to take on a series of portraits (rather than my usual improvised characters) depicting duos in today's comedy scene (no Laurel and Hardy, sorry). I also wanted to do illustrations that would appeal both to those familiar and unfamiliar with the real-life subjects.

Head on over to her page for some larger versions. Thanks to @TeamVenture for posting about that on Twitter.

Interview With Jason Lenzi (Again)

Some things happen only once in a lifetime, but me interviewing Jason Lenzi is more of a monthly occurrence apparently. After all the hoopla surrounding the new Venture Bros. figures he's toiled over to bring us, Jason contacted me with the desire to set the record straight as well as explain a few things that people might not quite understand. He asked, so then I asked, and he answered. It's informative and maybe it will even put some minds at ease.

To be frank we're all very pleased with our sculpts, Jackson especially, so there will be minor tweaks here and there to the heads. But the outfits and accessories are all going to change: materials, colors, lengths, tightness, etc, etc, etc. Not to beat the proverbial dead horse, but people need to understand that we (again, that's all of us involved in this process) very much wanted to have physical specimens to show in time for NY Toy Fair, to show to the world, fans, and retailers. It's always better than not having anything at all.

Okay, Venturoos. Here's what ya get for the Extras, at least on the DVD version. I felt it was a little light, but that's just my opinion. Deleted Scenes (as always) - Some are B&W sketches with the dialog, others are animated with the dialog. Ghost in the Pro-Blem - An extended view of the distorted images of events from the Pro-BLEM's point of view. Maybe there are some clues hidden in it if you like frame-by-frame advancing. Maybe not. Sirena Goes Off... - Cristin Milioti ad-libbing way more dialog than the script calls for. Poor Rocco. Promo - Basically the season 7 promo. Maybe there's Easter Eggs to find. I haven't done any extensive searching yet. If anyone finds any feel free to post them here!
