Ok, so loving it so far. Great Warhol refs, love that whole "farmer's daughter" thing Monarch and Dr. Mrs. had going on. Always good to see Hank totally out of date with what's cool but Sirena seems to be into it.

A series highlight that was written by both Jackson and Doc.
I always love their combined scripts, but wow, this was one of the absolute best episodes this season, or any season!

Interesting that it was listed as written by Jackson Publick with Doc Hammer, if my memory is right joint episodes have been listed as Jackson and Doc.

Yeah, Doc probably just helped Jackson with the episodes script b/c of all the numerous references and the sheer magnitude of this very dense episode.

I believe it's usually listed as by Doc Hammer and Jackson Publick for most of the dual written episodes and such.

Either way, this naturally set the final stage into motion for the final two season six episodes.

I'm almost positive you're right. The Factory storyline has Doc's fingerprints all over it, and this season's Hank and Sireena storyline has been handled almost entirely by Jackson. Whatever the case, I thought it was another solid episode, as are all of the Doc and Jackson team-ups (not that we have to go putting labels on this thing).

Loved it all. Billy and Pete must be pretty bored to be so into Hank's schemes. One thing that I still don't 'get': I'm a huge Warhammer fan...I totally don't get the reference to the super-villain tonight...and it's driving me mad.

More of a Luthor/Warhol thing than a reference to the actual game. Also, I thing Billy and Pete are pretty into helping with Hank's schemes- that sort of stuff is right up their alley.

I'll admit to them being bored though- Doc hiring them to do super-science was more of a bust than usual.

Andy Warhol went bald later in life and wore wigs, so Wes being bald was, at the least, an indirect reference to that as well.

Yes, I obviously got the Warhol references everywhere around Wes Warhammer. I just don't 'get' the reference to the 'Warhammer' name. I'm thinking there isn't any (unless you count Warhammer getting blown up, because Games-Workshop blew up the whole Warhammer planet last year).

It seems like it's really just a way to make Warhol villainous.

Or if you want to get kooky with it:

Lex LuTHOR. Thor. Thor's hammer. Wes Warhammer.

Very nice. Good to see some familiar faces along with the new ones. Hank is actually quite the smooth operator, as he might say.

A shame they're disposing of such interesting villains for the Blue Morpho arc. Good news is that if the roof has security cameras, Rusty's in the clear about being the Blue Morpho since he and Morpho were there at the same time. Brock's clear too, since he was with one of Wale's Lice all night searching for Hank. Bad news is that means Phantom Limb might suspect Monarch and Gary, which would make things very difficult for Sheila. I suspect Phantom Limb of planning a coup, given how often he's been treacherous in the past.

Mar. 7, 2016, 12:33am
The Guild doesn't have access to cameras at Ventech Tower, remember? Rusty's unlikely to work with the Guild (as they are unlikely to work with Rusty given their suspicions of him being Blue Morpho).

Absolutely love how Blue Morpho is accidentally killing all these villains. The Monarch is so awful he's good. Classic!

Yeah, in the last episode, Wide Wale claimed that he had the Venture place bugged (the scene where Hank, in disguise, waited WW's table). I don't know if he has both the inside AND outside bugged, but it's possible that WW can get audio from the Ventures' balcony.

That's actually based on a real place here in NYC: http://www.ninjanewyork.com/

I went there years ago and the experience is a lot like how it was depicted in the show only with far fewer ninja battles during dining (I don't recall any), but all the waiters do dress like ninjas and when you enter for the first time you go through this weird tunnel and some ninja guys keep popping out of the walls to try and scare you.

Informative! Jackson & Doc said they had a ton to say about New York life and they are definitely having fun with the move to NYC.

The black and white film in the beginning is a reference to a real avant-garde film by Warhol called Empire.

So much in this episode... the pop trivia... she is overwhelming and gigantic... like a refrigerator balancing on a monolith after midnight.

Sorry, my avant-garde was showing briefly.

At first I wondered, "did he just take her to an S&M dungeon?" ala Taxi Driver where DeNiro's character takes the Love of His Life to a porno.

holy goddam wowee. ton of Warhol Factory (Legion of Doom cartoon) movie-people references. possibly the best of everything i dearly adore about 70s culture aside from no wave/early punk. all the nutjob freaks just tossed into the trash with all the other awesome creeps this season. the helium pillows to safeguard the swim int the Gowanus Canal. oddly some guy went diving in there and was sick for a month after coming out & bleaching his water tight dive suit. little toxic that area.

i cant get over the Factory refs. maybe these guys somehow tie in with Valerie (Solanas) from the Viva Los Meurtos episode at some pt in VB time. if the art world doesnt recognize this as a the best 20th Century riff on itself then there is no hope.
a sort of Velvet Underground "I'll Be Your Mirror" lilting in the background. ha! outta the park guys!!

1.It Happening One Night(6)
2.Rapacity in Blue(4)
3.Faking Miracles(3)
4.Tanks For Nuthin'(5)
5.Maybe No Go(2)
6.Hostile Makeover(1)

All solid 5's for me. I am loving this season. But that's how they shake out...for now.

I'm with you in liking all of this season's episodes, but I'd rank Hostile Makeover, Maybe No Go, and Faking Miracles higher. My least favorite episodes--and again, that's relative--have been Rapacity in Blue and Tanks for Nuthin'.

My favorite thing about this season has been the Hank-Sireena relationship. I love pretty much everything about Sireena and have laughed my ass off at Hank's attempts to romance her. So good.

I love the new Hankcapades, too. Hankinator is on 11. My favorite storyline is the Blue Morpho, so that sways my episode order. Actually, yesterday I had HM and TFN reversed, but upon a full 5ep rewatch, the BMvsDrMTM is too delightful in TFN. Really, I think every offering this season is incredible, and I have no faults with any one.

Dudes, is there a "bad" episode this season? Even a "mediocre" episode?

I hate to come off as the "Fan Boy" but I am really thoroughly impressed with each episode.
  • 1
Mar. 8, 2016, 4:51am
Well, I am probably going full fanboy with you, but every episode is superb. The overwhelming quality and smooth flow lends credence to the notion that it's one long Ventures Visit NY movie presented in 8 parts. Venturific.

With that said, do you have an order preference? I'm still curious which story elements influence people.
  • 2
Mar. 8, 2016, 9:33pm
I am stuck. I have enjoyed them all. Previous seasons you could point to an episode where . . . things . . . did not work out as well . . . not that the episode was "bad" just . . . it "dragged" here and there. Or maybe one "hates" a particular character--like Sgt. Hatred's constant pedophilia references--so an episode based on that is "weak" in one's estimation.

I am having a hard time finding a weak episode this season. Or even a mediocre, or "B" episode. The tension is awesome. Dare I say that Malcolm is freer as "Blue Morpho" than as The Monarch[!--Ed.]? Who would have thought that?

Now I miss some favorite characters such as Unterbite, and Dr. Orpheus, and, everyone's fantasy Molotov. They cannot make episodes for every character. Still miss them. BUT they have introduced a ton of interesting characters while being happy to kill them all!

Really have to say this is one of their best seasons. Sorry for coming off as the "Fan Boy" but there it is. I am having a hard time finding anything to criticize.
  • 1
Mar. 9, 2016, 5:07am
You're so right on all points. Malcolm's new role is just the greatest shift. I must say the quality is actually stellar; it's not just fanboy love and the blind giddiness of new venture. We're 6-deep with only 2 left, and based on every other season, the Vgasm will only go up. Even though they're far from home, they've included many elements and characters from the old days, but in a totally natural manner. I miss Dr O and Mol, too, but unless they're brought in in an unforced way, which if they felt it necessary, Doc and Jackson could totally execute, let them sit this year out. I can't believe in two weeks this season will be over. Unreal. But after such a good short time, I'm looking forward to next season that much more.

Brigid Berlin/Miss (Bliss) Frigid (?) had a sister who hung out at the factory. Brigid is a conservative now, not so pilled out, or in movies anymore. super skinny now. her father chaired the Hearst Media Empire "bored little rich girl". this Doom Factory sorta covers the Warhol gang up thru '75 or so. brilliant parody. can't get over it.

Once again the only expletive of the episode was "fuck" (and variations). Of the 7, a total of 4 of them (and the first 3) are from Sirena. A true New York girl, she is.

I think "pussy" also counts as in the closed captioning it just said (Bleep) when Brock calls Rocco one.

Mar. 7, 2016, 9:01pm
"It Happened one Night" is the title of a 1934 movie starring Clark Gable and Claudette Colbert. It's plot is that an heiress is running away from her controlling father. Clark Gable is a report who helps her on her run, falling love with her along the way. Clearly this episode owes a lot to this movie.

I'm reminded of Brock's advice to Hank on the occasion of their first date in "Vector Echo November" not to be so...Hank-like, but Hank was very Hank-like this time around. But Sireena seems to find him refreshingly different, perhaps because he's not in awe of her father. The final scene before the credits where they're kissing and the camera pulls back to show Hank being hoisted by his BVD was the big laugh of the episode.

Siireena's comment to Brown Widow (?) what were they friends-with-benefits implies that she's not a virgin.

One of the ninja waiters had the stock body type of 21. I wonder if he and his friend, Brown Widow will be among the many Rusty and Hatred look-alikes featured in a later episode.

Was Hatred really killed, or did he just fall on the floor? The hole in the lobby was repaired I think.

Sheila was dressed up as Daisy Mae Yokum. I can't imagine the self-control the Monarch exercised to dare the Misses in such an erotic position and outfit. Personally I thought she looked hotter as the farmer's daughter than as the cheerleader.

Sirena's never been implied to be a virgin, though (I know- out of all the comments, I choose to talk about this one). Just because she has an overprotective daddy doesn't mean she's some chaste maiden. She knows how to remove her tracking chip, so she's slipped away for some private fun with friends before.
  • 1
Mar. 8, 2016, 12:28am
She's from New York. Being a virgin is like illegal or something.

Mar. 8, 2016, 4:52am
As she just turned 18 that could be problematic for BW, aka Jared, if Sirena or her dad ever decide to report him to the authorities. Also, the guy was in The Sound of Music as a child, which was released in 1965, so do the math, and he was having relations with an under-aged teenage girl. Winner.
  • 2
Mar. 8, 2016, 5:59pm
Oooo . . . great . . . I am going to have to pull out the DVDs since I figured he was talking about a musical rather than the movie made in 1965 which would make him like . . . almost 60. Hard to be a college student.

Now, frankly, Peter Parker was the Epic Failure of college students--claiming to be getting a Master's degree over a 40 year period!--so maybe that makes sense. Perhaps BW does not age like all good comic characters? I do not know.
  • 2
Mar. 9, 2016, 5:12am
Yeah, he could have meant a stage play version of the movie. But still, I always guessed him to be in his 30's, so dating an under-aged teenage girl is still not cool, nor legal if they were having sex.

The age to consent in New York might be 16 or 17. It is in most states. The idea that it's 18 in every state likely comes from other laws regulating "adult" things like voting, military services, buying tobacco products, etc. So since Sireena is 18, it's possible that she was of legal age to consent when she dated Brown Widow. Not that it would matter one bit to Wide Wale, I'm sure. I can't imagine he would condone a relationship between his daughter and a costumed hero, regardless of the circumstances!

All true on the age of consent info. At the beginning of the season, I thought that Hank and Wide Wale would have more interactions and he'd appreciate Hank's chutzpah, letting him into his dealings to learn. Then Hank would have this secret relationship with his daughter and shenanigans would ensue from there.

And with Brown Widow, I always thought he meant a stage production of SofM, not the original movie. It's recognizable and would show he's always had musical theatre talents.

I can't believe how much detail the creators went into to create 10 new villains out of nowhere, just to have them all killed in a 22 min cartoon. The level of minutiae is mind-blowing. Had some time on my hands, so compiled a list of the villains. Read on at your own peril, and scroll if'n you get bored. Tis a long 1:

"Deep w/in the bleak & dismal Gowanus...10 of the most ruthlessly self-involved villains on Earth loosely align forces against the powers of good."

1. The cold-hearted ice sculptress, Frigid
2. The toxic tongue of Serpentine
3. Miniature muse Eenie-Meanie
4. Gerard the Gorilla
5. The watchful Black Maria
6. Trashenstein, the exquisite corpse
7. Ulrta Violent [or is Ultra Violet?]
8. Billy Maim
9. The feminine-yet-gigantic She-Hemoth
10. The bittersweet Hard Candy

All sycophantic clingers-on to the evil genius of Warhammer.

Descriptions:

Frigid squirts ice from L tit, freezes a spotlight. Breasts are covered in metallic 1/2 spheres, nipples are miniature satellite dishes

Serpentine - WM, black pompadour, black jumpsuit, purple bandana tied at throat, green snake on chest, purple elbow gloves, sunglasses, purple belt

Eenie-Meanie - Miniature WF, blond hair, 4 Xshaped wings, horizontal striped yellow/black Tshirt, white boots, white wrist gloves,.

Gerald the Gorilla - blonde pompadour, black Tshirt/pants, seen silk-screening

Black Maria - wears a black leotard that covers entire body, incl hands & legs. Has a steel neck, Stewie Griffin-shaped head, speaker holes/grills for ears. 3 camera lenses, biggest in middle of head, 2 smaller ones below on R side of face. ***The Black Maria was a nickname given by Paris police to van that rounded up street walkers****

Trashenstein - WM, red headband, red leather forearm guards, 2 strips of wide tape in the shape of an X right above his dick, both legs show transplant scars. Is very angry, utters "Uurgghh" like a classic Frankenstein, breaks [shiny white/mirror surface] cocktail table

Ultra Violent or is Ultra Violet [?] - WF, purple bra & panties, shoulder & forearms spiked guards, purple hair, crown/headband has gold symbol. Not violent at all, short intro, just sits there

Billy Maim - WM, black pompadour, red & black horizontal striped Tshirt. Wolverine hand blades, 3 spikes

She Hemoth - WF, blonde, homage to Attack of the 50 ft tall woman, purple scarf, tiger stripe yellow top

Hard Candy - Albino male, red headband, head rests on R hand, looks annoyed, red jumpsuit, red knee boots, arms look like silver triangle segments [pieces of candy?], arm length red gloves.

Again, amazing level of detail for a 22 min cartoon. I've seen top 10 Nielsen TV shows that don't have 1/10 the level of perfectionism Jackson & Doc have. Mind blown. Bring on the last 2 eps.

Mar. 7, 2016, 6:48pm
Also if you look at the boys rooms when Brock is talking to Doc about locking it down, the detail is once again impressive. Dean's wipe board has some Trig problem on it and Hank's room is typically disheveled, looking like he put on every outfit, all in white of course, he had before deciding on the "good" outfit! And I thought Gerald the Gorilla's character design looks like a bizarro Brock! And the dusk NYC skylines throughout this one added the perfect touch!
  • 3
Mar. 7, 2016, 11:21pm
I think the trig problems were already there when Dean first saw his room. Not sure who's room that was as JJ and Sally no doubt slept in the room Doc now sleeps in. Unless maybe Sally had her own separate bedroom? Or it could have been Rocket's room and he's now a young, super intelligent child prodigy?

In Hank's room the chalkboard that previously read "Ned's Place" now says "H.V. <3 S.O.".

I'm in awe of the voice work on this episode. Sireena's line readings are absolutely amazing. Every single sentence drips with New York/New Jersey mafia princess attitude. Mark Gagliardi's work as Rocco is also great; I loved Doc's and Jackson's decision to give him some extended screen time opposite Brock. Those two are so good that they overshadow Nathan Fillion, who is perfectly cast as Brown Widow.

Voice-wise, this was a great episode in a season full of great episodes.

Good point. I Googled her and, well, she looks the part--not trying to be creepy or anything. Look at her and "That's Sireena"--which I am sure someone will notice the similarity to "Siren" at some point.

Kudos do Doc and Jackson for one of the most obscure references. Billy's legless veteran was Trooper a character cut from the script for The City on the Edge of Forever. His tragedy was that even though he was killed, his death did not change history.

National Lampoon "That's not funny, that's sick" lp cover has a cartoon of a frog coming out of a french [ ?] restaurant. The frog's legs have been chopped off & it's pulling itself in a wheeled cart w weights on his hands.

Yup. And if you REALLY want sick, see Callaghan's cartoons--he is a quadriplegic--he has one where there is a guy on wheeled cart who is only a head . . . talking to another guy on a wheeled cart who is also only a head but has an eyepatch. His line: "You're an inspiration for me!"

He has a book titled based on one of his more infamous cartoons: a sheriff's pose in a desert surrounding an empty wheelchair.

So Knife Bear (or Scare Bear) was at the party, so I wonder if he's a Guild member after all, or maybe he just crashed the party like he crashed The Revenge Society auditions?

We also see Dot Com making out with Black Jack, and the guy who was in the "The Italian's" tailor shop now wearing the same speedsuit as Doc, and a number of the usual unusual background villains including Plug Face, Dame Gloria, Flying Squid, Auntie Matter, the tuxedo guy, Brick Frog and Vespertina popping pills. Oh, and Donald Trump again. Definitely a Guild member.

Would the Guild really want Trump? He's a loudmouth and would certainly make them look bad. Hopefully just in the scene through business ties. But man, what a great arching party that was. Wes has style.

He was also at Sirena's birthday party and there were civilians there, and there looked to be civilians at Wes' party too, so maybe he's just being part of the New Yawk scene.

Brick Frog and Vespertina popping pills was priceless.

Anybody figured out that Plug Face can't insert his own prongs into his outlet by bending his neck down? I figured there was a ref to loose-jointed ppl giving themselves a BJ, but the only way Plug Face can do this is by stretching his neck down his back, coming up from the waist. Then again, maybe Prof Impossible can teach him...

I always thought of him as a henchman who lost his villain so he decided to strike out on his own. If you think about it, a squad of Plugfaces would be right at home with an electrical villain or one that uses oversized appliances as his M.O.

Too dense of an episode to comment on. My favorite parts were the tiny flying Edie Sedgwick and the "You mess with the frog, you get the brick" grafitto.

I ordered two shirts this week, as I suspect I will immediately lose the one if I wear it in front of a certain art-school chick.

I'm not sure I get 21's crisis of conscience. He's killed quite a few over the course of the show (who knows how many he killed in Zero's arena,) but his only real murders were the psychiatrist with the snake back in Self-Medication and Short Division, and he seemed to have no guilt at all over those incidences.

True... He is Hench. Man.

21....of 1.

He's been all over the spectrum emotionally. He went all wolverine after 24, became a living legend among henchmen, was a hero heading up SPHINX, and has settled into a boundary pushing antihero position now with New Blue Morpho. Gary has lost a lot and experienced much pain. These aren't just anthropomorphic puns and references they're dealing with; they're real damaged people who take clever jokes too far in making a life for themselves and their families.

I'd have to say that both Gary and Dean have probably evolved the most as characters on the show. And to some extent Brock, though he's back in his old role, but with some changes due to the upswing of Docs status, the change of venue to NY and the boys being older now.

Agreed. Dean is the one who learns and analyzes, Hank is ever the boy wonder.

I'd toss in the Mighty Malcolm for a character evolution as well. He's very critical of himself and been clinging to his boyhood fondness of arching in a nostalgic manner for some time, often being agonizingly reflective and self aware. This new identity has really given him the Push he needs to take his character in the direction he's been leaning towards mentally for a while.

Those were in the pursuit of sanctioned arching and survival (Short Division was just an accident). All the recent killing has been unsanctioned and unnecessary. They could have gotten along fine without killing anyone. They got back to arching Rusty without 21 having to kill anyone before (I admit Monarch killed a bunch of his appointed arches, but Gary's hands were clean on that). But now, antagonist has killed antagonist and the whole order of things is shook up.

Final Random Observations (Part 1 of 2):

- 'If you see something... slay something' is a parody of the homeland security slogan, and is only one letter different from the actual slogan.

- I died with laughter at the Monarch's lines about blowing his inheritance and wanting to look cool... and even though no one will see them... they'll still know how cool they looked leaping from a giant explosion.

- An animation coloring error occurs when Rusty's white neck-piece is incorrectly colored the same as his speedsuit when entering his new silver painted avant-garde living space.

- Kate McKinnon has voice acted in every single episode this year. In real life she is a proud, thin, blonde haired, attractive, lesbian woman. Why does that matter? B/c in this episode she plays a blonde, thin, attractive, little supervillain named Eenie-Meanie... who just so happens to be a fairy. Hmmm, I'll let that sink in for a bit. I can't decide if this was intentionally done or not.

- Scare Bear, Brick Frog, multiple reoccurring various villains and Donald Trump are all in attendance at the rave.

- Wes Warhammer's character is a direct reference to Andy Warhol and Lex Luthor.

- The sycophantic villains who cling to Warhammer are all direct character takeoffs of the Legion of Doom from the Justice League cartoon 'the Super Friends' from the '70s-'80s. Even the announcer voice Jackson does is from this specific cartoon series.

- The black and white film in the beginning is a reference to the an avant-garde film by Andy Warhol called Empire. It's basically just three hours of still footage of the Empire State Building.

- Rocco has seemingly forgiven Brock for the death of his co-workers previously in the season. I guess that book he and 21 both coincidentally read helped. One would also imagine that all the whale lice henchman have strength suits on. And thus, why Wide Wale only has 40 henchman as mentioned previously. It's all the minions he needs if they have strength suits on.

- Jackson is once again not listed in the credits for all the characters he played herein. For one example, Hard Candy went unlisted and he briefly voiced her.

- Kimson "Dead Dolphin Juice" Albert.

- Although the camera cuts away immediately for the joke to play, I bet Rusty popped a a 'Hank' when offered. A small nod to his past and previous pill popping.

- Brock has mutual respect for anyone who can keep up with him in a 'good' fight throughout the series. This occurs after his brawl with Rocco.

- The parody characters from the factory and the Legion of Doom work waaaay to geniusly when mashed together as Doom Factory!

- Dr. Mrs. is being surprising naive this season about the entire Blue Morpho crisis, especially after being darted in the ass point blank by the Monarch. Even if she's quite the farmer's daughter... why would she think Rusty darted her and the Monarch to merely stop their sexy fun. The Monarch darts everyone... ever. He's even darted her before. I smell a big twist coming b/c she's smarter than this season wants us to think.

- The line; "You're the boss, applesauce!" is from a film called Factory Girl. It's said by the depiction of Andy Warhol.

- The line; "Somebody gave me this telephone... I think it was Edie... yeah it was Edie... and she said I could talk to God with it, but uh... I don't have anything to say... so here." is from the Doors movie and was spoken by Andy Warhol. Warhammer repeats this line almost verbatim except he uses Eenie's name in the place of Edie. A subtle Doors esque music cue silently plays as this occurs.

- Dude! The the dialogue exchange and overall beat that occurs while the Monarch's life is in serious peril as he's stuck to Doom Factory's headquarters is very reminiscent of when 24 died. Dude!

- The video game Rusty and Hatred are playing appears to be Team Fortress 2. Team Fortress 2 previously featured V Bros. themed DLC content.

- Brock yet again goes after Hank while he's on a date to save him from danger, somewhat similar as to what happened while the boys had their BIG date in Victor Echo November.

- Warhammer's purple suit jacket, with its giant collar and all, is seemingly yet another direct Andy Warhol reference.

- Billy and White always get in on the outlandish character skits... I guess you could say... everybody comes to Hank's... need.

- The animation when the Monarch hits the dead dolphin was very well drawn and serviced the joke well b/c it was so violent and realistically quick. I laughed way too hard when I saw that.

- Brown Widow almost had to have seen Sirena or recognized her voice that whole time he was waiting to leap down... but seemingly doesn't until he glances over for her drink order.

- Hank wears a famous Michael Jackson outfit while out on his date.

- This kiss Hank and Sirena share mirrors mermaid comments and three day kiss comments spoken just previously on their date. It's also a reference to every Mermaid movie... umm, ever.

That's it for today, almost everything in this episode is a reference to something else.
I'll do part two later on, my good Venturoos.

"Rocco has seemingly forgiven Brock for the death of his co-workers"
After all it's just business... You hench for a major super-villain, you have to expect to get killed.

"Dr. Mrs. is being surprising naive this season about the entire Blue Morpho crisis"
I think Dr Mrs has always looked the other way when it comes to her husband. But also you have to admit that her work rebuilding the Guild has taken all her time. She probably hasn't thought about her husband acting strange.

"Hank wears a famous Michael Jackson outfit while out on his date."
He also drives off the "mugger" with a Michael Jackson dance so the outfit fits.

The Black Maria costume looks very much like the Back Manta, Aquaman's evil half brother. Black Manta had two eyeholes while Blck Maria has three the shape and arrangement like a old style TV camera.

The speech Hank gives when he lists the things he believes in sounded too long and particular. It has to be a quote from some book or movie. If a movie I suspect "Bull Durham" but it's a long time since I watched that movie.

I had to laugh when at the end we see Hank and Sireena kissing and the camera pulls back to reveal Brock holding Hank in the air by his BVDs. I was so focused on that that I forgot how the Shrimpman was holding on to Sireena.

We have to remember this is a series dedicated to FAILURE. Everyone fails. Even Sheila. Though she seems the "brains of the operation" sometimes The Monarch[!--Ed.] has a better plan--like against Dr. Jonas Jr. to have an excuse to re-arch Rusy. Or recall how she screwed up the whole light idea against Captain Sunshine.

That is not a "knock" on Dr. Mrs. the "Whatever She Calls Herself These Days." Remember, she never figured out that Malcolm was actually the Shadowman "with the STARING!" She has her weaknesses.

But then Malcolm The Monarch[!--Ed.] asked her when she started smoking . . . so there you go.

See, I think Sheila is actually very intelligent, but blind to the Monarch's shenanigans only in that she plays along with him, but fumbles him in such a way that he doesn't do real damage to himself. Like with the Captain Sunshine encounter, I think she wanted to let Monarch go through his scheme because he's going to anyway, but to prevent him from getting in real trouble or doing something too stupid, she purposely made him a Sunshine gun. CS wouldn't actually kill Monarch, and Monarch then wouldn't go through with something causing irreparable damage or that would get him sanctioned by the Guild. Malcolm is totally capable in his own right and accidentally brilliant at times. He needs that leash and someone to flub for him when he happens to not do it himself. I see it all as purposeful.
  • 1
Mar. 9, 2016, 10:36am
Well, she seemed legitimately pissed when it backfired on her and she got re-sunburned at the end of the episode.

Part of the comedy of the show is the banal attitude to death--save a few over-the-top "WONDERBOY!!!" reactions.

Sheila does not bat an eye when The Monarch[!--Ed.] explains how he off-handedly torched Wonderboy when he was drunk after she left him. Her protests when he starts frying potential arches is because it is "against the rules" to just kill an arch. Wiping out random henchmen--their own and others?

"Meh!"

Anyways, CS will not kill The Monarch[!--Ed.] because CS still thinks he is invulnerable.

Connections to the past (maybe just coincidental)?

Doc blames Hatred for the fire that destroyed the compound (not his fault, but the loss of the cocoon and The Monarch's home are) - Hatred was in the Jacket video in a scene parodying Billy Joel's "We Didn't Start The Fire" where the kitchen appeared to be on fire.

So I wonder if Night Dick (giggles to self) has "a jet pack and a Devil-may-care attitude" as per Dean's remark in The Trial of the Monarch.

Okay, so here's a way longshot prediction of mine that I'm going to just throw out there (but I get to do the I-Called-It dance if I am right). Ready? Redusa is Kim's grandmother (recall Hank's first impression upon seeing her at the restaurant) and she will turn up either before this season is out or next season. They used Kim's face for one of the Shirt Club shirt announcements so that could be a clue.

Also, I wonder if Orpheus will turn up by the finale? He teaches at The New School, which if I remember correctly is in NY.
  • 2
Mar. 9, 2016, 9:36am
Sorry to break it to you, but J & Doc confirmed there won't be any Dr Orpheus this season. Forgot where i read it, the quote was something along the lines of "we thought about having him on, but there just wasn't any room." Amazing how tightly-packed S6 is. Even the amazing Hunter has appearead [briefly] in only 1 ep.
  • 3
Mar. 9, 2016, 12:26pm
Hunter will be back as there was a scene in the season six trailer of him and Dr. Mrs. Whatever Now talking on a city bench, probably about an OSI / Guild team-up to take out The Blue Morpho.

Well, at least they were able to give Steve R. some other voice work this season if he did not voice Doctor O.
  • 1
Mar. 9, 2016, 1:17pm
With two episodes left, I'm thinking the Blue Morpho story gets wound up this week and Wide Wale gets taken out next weekend in the season finale. The officlal ep summary for this week is "The Guild targets Dr. Venture for assassination, which ruins a party thrown for his fancy new friend" while for next week it is "The Guild of Calamitous Intent and the O.S.I. join forces to eliminate a threat, using Dr. Venture as the bait." Now what could be so extreme that the Guild and OSI has to unite? It can only be Wide Wales' attempt to take over the Guild and bring mafia-like menace to the world of organized mischief.

Final Random Observations (Part 2 of 2):

- Just under one million people watched the original telecast with a 0.990 rating.

- When Dr. Mrs. is in her Daisy Mae Yokum esque outfit her low-cut sleeves continually detach from the garment due to the specific design requirements. It's hard to tell if this is an intentional design decision or not.

- Some of the Doom Factory villains are seemingly based on Doom Patrol characters as well.

- Eenie is definitely a combination of Edie Sedgwick and DC's Bumblebee character.

- With only two episodes left we know from the previous promo footage that Doctor Venture has a dinner at Rose's where Rodney storms out, Gentleman eats crumpets, and Gentleman has tea with his dog. Hunter and Dr. Mrs. have a secret meeting about Blue Morpho. Almost every character puts on a disguise... as another character. And Red Death will be featured prominently, both with his hood and cloak on and also in civilian clothing. Finally, there is a Guild sniper up on Wide Wale's tower ready to shoot Blue Morpho, presumably.

- Dr. Mrs. has an official G.C.I. logo has her background on her laptop.

- Unfortunately, the telephone number on the Guild poster is tp small to read.

- Dean has apparently become an accomplished bongo player.

- I get that they wanted to walk... and that she had to dig the tracking implant out... but why did Hank ditch his only means of transportation in the park? Doesn't he need it for delivering pizza?

- A specifically French music cue plays when Dean quickly tells Hank about the restaurant rendezvous.

- Brock puts waaay to much trust into Doc and Hatred's hands by trusting them to lockdown when he leaves to go rescue Hank... from his date. Oh, irony.

- Pete White looked dead on the ground after Brock knocks him out.

- Brock's main concern is certainly just Hank in this episode... he just tells Dean to get to the car with Billy.

- 21 uses the GCI digital hall of records to look up Warhammer.

- Headquarters: The Doom Factory - Aquatic resting. Capable of flight for short distances (40 miles with safe return.) The fuel for long distance travel can not be stored in the tanks as installed at the present time. Weapons: Level 10-04 (low intensity lasers, 15 antipersonnel heatseeking missiles with veritable payload, Projection of ghost imaging, or pointless films of celebrities, Loudspeakers with a 136db capacity.)

- Attack Modes: The Warhammerian HAPPENING: An event based assault on the home, beings and person of his intended arch. Wracking up huge phone bills, cloging toilets, emptying food stores, etc. The victims are often coerced into shameful or compromising movies and photo-shoots that are later used for blackmail. The Warhammerian Installation: Smaller than the Happening... tion is a makeshiftroom where tedious....

- The Doom Factory blueprint that 21 pulls up features: living quarters, retractable laser, engine level, docking airlocks, refueling umbilicus, retractable gangplank, upper deck, and stabilization gyro-rotator.

- Who fixed the Morpho scooters, Manolo? B/c for them to run fine after all those decades is highly unlikely.

- The episodes title is a play on It Happened One Night.

- The horse is fine, the carriage is obliterated, but where are the people? I'm sure they merely ran off... but I like to pretend Brock and Rocco killed them while fighting, a bit of the old collateral damage.

- What could be more avant-garde than a working payphone!?!?

- Warhol also shot uncomfortable black-and-white films of half-nude pseudo celebrity icons.

- The backgrounds are incredibly detailed this season, especially when the characters are out in NYC. But oddly, Brock's own car has a completely blank license plate while every other vehicle this season has minute details on the NY state license plates. Maybe Brock hasn't gotten his new NY plates yet?

- Brick Frog has apparently left graffiti behind on the streets of NYC. In the background while Brock is driving (you have to pause it to properly see it) the graffiti reads: You mess with the Frog... you Get the Brick! Followed by a frog doodle signature. This in itself is a reference to the old saying about bulls and horns.

- Rocco touched Brock's hair... and lived!

- 21 is briefly off model during the 'Borehammer' diss and then just as quickly back on model in the next (same) shot.

- The Doom Factory has concave windows... or are they convex when your inside looking out... whatever.

- The silver balloons are made to look like avant-garde inflatable 'floating' pillows.

- From Rocco's comments one could infer that there must be sanctioned ninja hives on Wide Wale's turf as well.

- Lee Harvey Oswald acted with clones. Even more hilarious b/c Hank is in fact himself a clone.

- Had the original explosion happened as planned, the Monarch and 21 probably wouldn't of had time to leap out to safety.

- Brown Widow's special senses failed him... they ditched on their tab. Now he'll be in real danger... of losing his livelihood.

- According to Brock's tracking monitor, he finds Hank not overly far away from the World Trade Center Site.

- When the Monarch falls from clinging outside the Doom Factory ship, the ship makes a full rotation before he comes into view and falls off.

- Billy Maim is briefly shown wearing a mechsuit before takeoff, clearly he stole the mechsuit from a few episodes prior.

- Wes is certified a level 10 and uses online autopay to pay his GCI dues.

- The Monarch evidently has 'magic' hands.

- HV + SO is written on Hank's chalkboard and circled with a heart. Dean's marker board is filled with... umm, quantum physics?

- Brock walks right out of Venture tower and straightforward through NYC traffic without looking... what a badass.

- Why didn't Hank take his watch off? He must've know Brock might come looking for him while out on his date b/c of the DOOM warning.

- And why doesn't Brock just call Hank on his watch if he's soo damn worried? Brock seemingly just wants to be a cock blocker in this episode. JK.

- Pretty good, pretty neat.

And with that, I'm calling it.
There are a ton of numerous references to still list... but I'm burnt out now.

This upcoming Sunday will mark the 75th episode (not counting the epilogues) counting every episode aired.

Get excited Venturoos!

Check out this interview! They talk about the writing process for season 6, as well as what to expect with the last two episodes. Apparently Sunday's is the bigger episode. Also it’s good to know they were confused about the episode order too because I am pretty sure the order was for two 10 episode seasons with a 90 minute special in between.

Also THEY ARE WRITING MORRREE. That gives me hope at least (and ratings/buzz is good for season 6 so here’s hoping for the renewal?)

That sneak peek clip was fucking awesome! It's very interesting to see the Monarch contemplative and sullenly reflecting on his life and the core mythology of the franchise.

Sounds like season seven is already being written and developed and we're getting another hour-long episode as the premiere. It could end up being another special but... only time will tell.

Interesting that this weeks upcoming episode is more epic and works better as a season closer but they couldn't switch the final two episodes order b/c of story continuity.

Bring on episode 75!

Okay, Venturoos. Here's what ya get for the Extras, at least on the DVD version. I felt it was a little light, but that's just my opinion. Deleted Scenes (as always) - Some are B&W sketches with the dialog, others are animated with the dialog. Ghost in the Pro-Blem - An extended view of the distorted images of events from the Pro-BLEM's point of view. Maybe there are some clues hidden in it if you like frame-by-frame advancing. Maybe not. Sirena Goes Off... - Cristin Milioti ad-libbing way more dialog than the script calls for. Poor Rocco. Promo - Basically the season 7 promo. Maybe there's Easter Eggs to find. I haven't done any extensive searching yet. If anyone finds any feel free to post them here!
