There's a brand new commercial on Adult Swim just for the season finale and it looks fucking epic! Red Death seems to be sinister, menacing and rather terrifying, a rarity for this series to make a villain that's actually frightening.
I'm sorry, but just the preview alone was better than this episode that just aired.
Really glad it wasn't the finale now.

21 ambivalence about killing The Wandering Spider seemed totally out of place. He's killed before: brutally, callously. In season 4 21 became a bad-ass. He survived #1's gladiator-arena by killing, killing, killing. Now he's a murder-cherry? It's like Jackson and Doc have decided that Season 4 never happened.

Pretty good, although I'm not sure the whole shifting narrator thing worked for me- the visuals speak for themselves. Very nice to finally get Gary's origin story and last name. Wish Action Man would have just shot the boxer arch right away instead of letting him talk. Got some more details about what happened to the original Blue Morpho. After what happened to Dr. Z, I'm guessing Morpho has some sort of morphing ability as well- no costume is that good. Shame that Lam-bert couldn't get into the building but he didn't bring anyone else anyway.

My feelings are highly mixed and polarizing on this one. The continuity was just a bit off from the rest of the season with regards as to how Dr. Mrs. viewed the Blue Morpho, as she was already convinced he was Venture and alluded to wanting him dead already.
Also, Bot Seeks Bot was better at faking out Dr. Venture's death, coincidentally also a penultimate episode of the last season.
However, all the callbacks to the previous series continuity with 21 and the pilot were fun and highly enjoyed. And I didn't laugh very much at this one.
I also thought ATHF used Chris Lambert much more effectively and the jokes about him fell falt here as a result. Well, the final stinger with him being locked out was funny.
It felt oddly 'meh' for as deep as it got with all the characters reflecting on their lives like a film instead of a TV show.
I dunno, it was a really weird, wild, predictable, and contemplative episode with good callbacks to original continuity... but not exactly with regards to season continuity.
Z had to convince Dr. Mrs. but she was already convinced and leading the charge.
Definitely would've worked better if it had aired before lasts weeks episode.
The council was ready to kill Venture as was Dr. Mrs. at the end of last weeks credits, herein this week it felt like that hadn't happened yet.
Interestingly, Battle Axe lived... but she definitely had a neck cast. Good enough continuity there. Ha.

I loved this episode (I wrote more extensively about that below), but I'm with you about the lack of coherence when it comes to the Dr. Mrs.-Blue Morpho plot. It's been all over the place from episode-to-episode. Maybe Doc and Jackson weren't entirely on the same page about that storyline. Your'e right, too, about the episode being predictable. Still, I think it was internally coherent and very, very funny. So I was completely on board for this one.

Just rewatched it.
The writing felt heavy-handed and it was almost like Doc was trying to remind the 'dumb' fans what is still relevant and what the overall plot is this season.
Like, oh, the season is over... better remind the 'bozo' audience members why Dr. Mrs. would shoot Venture. It wasn't needed.
This might be the most over-written season ever, I'm loving and hating it.
[AS] obviously needs to give them 13 episode seasons again.

I also wondered if this episode originally was supposed to have aired immediately before "It Happening One Night", but in rewatching I noted that one piece of evidence Dr. Z presented was the grappling gun found at the site of the Doom HQ crash that was a Venture Industries model.

I'm going to begin this comment with a confession: I don't like Doc's episodes nearly as much as I like Jackson's. I know that puts me in the extreme minority on this message board. Doc is an incredibly charismatic guy, and I think that some of his episodes get a pass because of it. Not that his episodes are ever bad--with the possible exception of "Careers in Science"--but some contain major plot holes, and some contain some really out-of-character dialogue/behavior. For these reasons, I like Jackson's more average episodes better than Doc's.
All that having been said, I thought this was a brilliant episode. When Doc is good, he's really, really good. I think two of his episodes this season--"Maybe No Go" and this one--are his best since "Everybody Comes to Hank's." I didn't even miss the Hank-Sirena storyline, which has been my favorite part of this season.
My hat's off to Doc for this one. It was beautiful in its simplicity, and as usual, it was freakin' hilarious.

I don't care what the haters say (I know Captain V came around eventually)
but I loved this episode from top to bottom. The writing was brilliant and the narration was an awesome choice. I still don't see how they can wrap up in season in one more episode though and I'm pissed at AS for only giving the 8 episodes. Just make it open ended and give me one new episode every 2 or 3 months for the rest of my life please.

Seems like it. I think they still will reveal his vendetta (vendata?) against Monarch for the Dr Dugong murder. A lot of powerful people have had something against Monarch over the years and for some reason he has made it through. Wide Wale is not one to be trusted and is always playing his own game. As pretty much every character is. Next week has a lot to live up to.

Usually VB is heavy on the comedy with a bit of drama mixed in (It Happening One Night,) but this episode felt more like an Ocean's Eleven, where there were comedic hits, some very subtle, but ultimately more emphasis on the drama. Even the conclusion after Doc pops up from the ground and the bouncy swing tune plays was dominated by the fate of Schrodinger's spider.
I thought it was very well crafted, just a bit of a change-up from the usual delivery.

On re-watch, I really love the background music. J.G. Thirwell was given the only music-related credit, but the score likely came from Doc Hammer and/or tunes from the Turner library. Whatever the case, the choices are a perfect send-up of the music in most heist films. And the song that plays over the credits--maybe it's my imagination, but I think I hear some of the voice cast. Have we figured anything out about the source of that tune? I know there was some discussion about it above.

My friend Mike happened to catch the link that the original Blue Morpho, may in fact be a woman? (Or a hermaphrodite? Maybe?) In the sequence where Dr. Z recalls him "doing anything for Jonas Venture." Plot twist? Blue Morpho is The Monarch's Mother??? (With high pitch inflection and the end.) Just towing knives in the dark at the target of Rusty and The Monarch being half brothers. Thoughts? Ideas? Help? It's driving us nuts!!! Love this show, and have been waiting for the link between Rusty and Monarch's seething hatred for years. Thank you all for any input.

I was thinking, given Phantom Limb's comment on a bounty or something... what if the Sovereign figured out BM died in a plane crash, but wanting to cash on in the bounty, impersonates BM to make it seem like he's still alive (a time during which he has sex with Dr. Z). Then he creates a murder scenario to take credit for the death, uses that to rise in the ranks of the Guild, and when in power erases evidence of that event.

I love how much Watch & Ward we get this season. They make me laugh every single time. Such a pure Doc & Jackson comedy pair.
How did Radical Left get on the Council anyway? [The answer is probably just that Doc & Jackson like him.] And why is he not on the 5.5?
In re: the rest of the Revenge Society, Professor Impossible clearly fell apart after the Gargantua 2 heist went down and Sally publically dissed him. Ãœnderbheit was always a joke; he's probably back to panhandling again. I hope we get to see Fat Chance again; now that he can control his Mystery Hole he could be a pretty capable villain.

Final Thoughts and Random Observations:
- 21 drops two subtle allusions about body armor during the episode that suggest Rusty will be fine before the reveal. First and most obvious, he mentions that the Kevlar was flaking and is why he took the suit to Enzo for basic repairs. Secondly, he briefly ponders if the Wandering Spider is wearing a flak jacket before his mechanical legs activate.
- 21's flashback of being kidnapped, ordered dead by the Monarch, but then ultimately spared by henchman, perfectly mirrors his exact actions when kidnapping the Wandering Spider. His life has come full circle. And b/c his backstory was already revealed years ago but went unseen until now... that's some damn good writing, baby!!!
- The moon plays a big role in this episode and it also does in the Highlander films. This is no coincidence, Christopher Lambert played the Highlander and is featured within this episode prominently.
- Doc refrences Lambert's obvious and famous roles from the Highlander franchise and Greystoke: The Legend of Tarzan, Lord of the Apes. But he also quickly slips in a Lord Raiden line. A hilarious reference to the cheeky Mortal Kombat live action film Lambert starred in as Raiden.
- Billy is portrayed in an especially repugnant and grating manner in this episode. The way he snaps, "Always a Gloria!" at White, and how he uncharacteristically hammers rum shots down and asks about the Carfax Fox, Rusty's Mom, etc. was just gross to me. First time I've EVER not liked Billy in an episode.
- The beginning of this episode doesn't work well b/c you know some BS reason is coming the entire time to explain how Rusty was fine. It makes the entire episode feel predictable, which is a shame b/c the character life reflections and deep mythos is spot fucking on.
- It feels like bandages were added to Battleaxe retroactively and the grappling hook line was added so this episode would play as a penultimate season episode. The 5.5 suggests Phage has not been re-welcomed yet, an oversight suggesting this episode was written early in the season. - Dr. Mrs. was built up to already wanting Venture dead and convinced he is BM, teehee.
But here it's the opposite. I believe this was (mostly) done on purpose so we'd buy her pulling the trigger. She's very rational in this episode, but it has been built up all season she's fed up with Rusty's affect on her life, and her inner monologue in the limo reflects this. I thought it didn't work... but the more I watch this one... Doc Hammer actually sells it perfectly. She's always been sympathetic to Rusty, hence why she cured his Kafka nightmare, so it'd take a lot of building up and a Wide Wale screaming at her before she'd ever actually shoot. It really works. I'm just trying to say Doc sold it and gave her back her depth and humanity this season, which was needed. BM has stolen so much screen time I'm missing certain characters and character development for others featured less as a result. This episode fixed that, for sure.
- 21 reacts overly nonchalant when a knockout dart is shot into his crotch. I would've fucking yelled out in pain, at least briefly.
- I find it hard to believe Phantom Limb almost defends Rusty during the debates by calling him to much of a loser to be BM, teehee. And for somone who wanted everyone dead in season four... it's a bit odd he isn't on the roof with the other psychotic villains wanting Venture dead. I guess he's actualized as a person and really grown into a sane supervillian not bent on destruction and revenge. Good for him.
- I feel Z would've already mentioned all his BM (teehee) knowledge previously when this all started. But... maybe he was embarrassed about his accidental sexcapades with BM.
- Brock and Dean are painfully silent this episode, it feels like they each had one or two lines that got cut. J&D realized they saved production money by having less actors, and rolled with it. A popular season four practice.
- This episode has a ton of odd animation quirks. Not exactly errors, just weird little things I noticed upon repeat viewings.
- Enzo builds himself up as the god of tailoring... but he's not confirming it. *Spites*
- If Battleaxe saw 21 out in front of her bar he would've presumably been axed to death out of revenge. It also raises questions about whether or not she still wants to kill Venture next season. It all hinges on what happens with the Blue Morpho next.

Venture, as well, was obviously cleared b/c 21struck as the Blue Morpho. This sets the stage for an interesting finale b/c nobody knows who the fuck the Blue Morpho is besides the Monarch and 21.
- 21 was moonlighting as the Blue Morpho... during a lunar eclipse. Think about that. Bravo Doc Hammer, bravo good sir.
- Dr. Mrs. can spot a Lambert a mile away. Not actually, but it was still impressive. He was slightly far away and he had his back turned and she still knew it was him.
- Can anyone identify what film/films this entire episode is a reference to? I can't shake the feeling this entire episode, the opening, the monologues... it all feels like it's a specific reference to some film noir Doc Hammer likes.
- When the Blue Morpho removes his mask after sex with Z it feels like a lazy joke an Austin Powers movie would make. However, the way Z describes everything and is deeply troubled by his encounter for decades is what makes the joke totally work.
- The Dr. Heinie joke felt pretty damn lazy. An ass doctor named Heinie, ugghhh.
I get that the Monarch has to arch a shitty (poophole) doctor to climb in the ranks to get back to Venture, but the joke is just banal, and painfully dumb. Why not have the Monarch arch a gynecologist named Dr. Vgeinie next season? Gimmie a break.
- This is a great episode that's slightly marred by odd jokes, season continuity friction, and somd seriously weird details. I see why I basically don't know how to rate it.
- I thought Jackson was fibbing we he said Vendata and 'that picture' won't be addressed until next season, but I believe he was telling the truth now. Although, all the Blue Morpho stuff has definitely built upon this foundation.
- Even the animation during the flashback of the henchman and Dr. Girlfriend has nods to the original animation cycles of everyone continuously typing in unison. Very nice attention to old details.
- Blue Morpho is once again referenced as being "resplendent".
- Kimson "Always a Gloria" Albert.
- The ratings, once again, did not surpass one million viewers with only a 0.913 rating earned.

- All the level ten villains have been punks so far. Thin Tank just wanted to play Chess, Battleaxe's husband just wanted to yell, Wes and co. were just eccentric druggie thieves, and Wandering Spider was a big wussy. Hopefully, Red Death will actually bring some menace this upcoming Sunday.

- 21 drops two subtle allusions about body armor during the episode that suggest Rusty will be fine before the reveal. First and most obvious, he mentions that the Kevlar was flaking and is why he took the suit to Enzo for basic repairs. Secondly, he briefly ponders if the Wandering Spider is wearing a flak jacket before his mechanical legs activate.
- 21's flashback of being kidnapped, ordered dead by the Monarch, but then ultimately spared by henchman, perfectly mirrors his exact actions when kidnapping the Wandering Spider. His life has come full circle. And b/c his backstory was already revealed years ago but went unseen until now... that's some damn good writing, baby!!!
- The moon plays a big role in this episode and it also does in the Highlander films. This is no coincidence, Christopher Lambert played the Highlander and is featured within this episode prominently.
- Doc refrences Lambert's obvious and famous roles from the Highlander franchise and Greystoke: The Legend of Tarzan, Lord of the Apes. But he also quickly slips in a Lord Raiden line. A hilarious reference to the cheeky Mortal Kombat live action film Lambert starred in as Raiden.
- Billy is portrayed in an especially repugnant and grating manner in this episode. The way he snaps, "Always a Gloria!" at White, and how he uncharacteristically hammers rum shots down and asks about the Carfax Fox, Rusty's Mom, etc. was just gross to me. First time I've EVER not liked Billy in an episode.
- The beginning of this episode doesn't work well b/c you know some BS reason is coming the entire time to explain how Rusty was fine. It makes the entire episode feel predictable, which is a shame b/c the character life reflections and deep mythos is spot fucking on.
- It feels like bandages were added to Battleaxe retroactively and the grappling hook line was added so this episode would play as a penultimate season episode. The 5.5 suggests Phage has not been re-welcomed yet, an oversight suggesting this episode was written early in the season. Interestingly, if you listen to the commentaries we know Doc Hammer is obsessed with SotL, the General / Carfax Fox commercials, Scorsese films, faking out character deaths, callbacks to previous episodes, fleshing out flashbacks we've heard spoken of but never seen, working Billy and White into an episode at the expense of other characters screen time, and anything taboo related to genitals, sex, and bodily functions.
This episode literally features ALL of that.

All I can think about is the South Park episode where they are trying to figure out who Cartman's father is. It is revealed that Mrs. Cartman is a hermaphrodite, having both sexual organs. Could it be that the Monarch's dad is...no, I need more sleep...

I find that very interesting b/c the ratings reflect that [AS] should've been airing this season at least thirty minutes ahead in the 11:30 slot and the season probably would've never dipped below one million viewers.
Look at the most recent ratings data from "Tarzan":

4:30 a.m. encore rating - 0.845 million
That's kinda fucking crazy to me! T.V. ratings data is almost pointless in 2016 b/c of the rise of other formats and DVRs/Netflix teaching people to marathon shows on their own time. But still, that's pretty damn interesting they could premiere the new episodes at 3:30 a.m. (my timezone) and get basically the same ratings.
Clearly, the new episodes should be debuting earlier.

Cartoon Network continues to treat Venture Bros. like one of its ordinary, lower-quality shows. It's been a critical hit from the beginning, and it has a loyal cult following. Still, it airs at midnight on Sunday, and I'm pretty sure the streaming services feature only its first--and therefore weakest--season. By rights, the show should get a better time slot, a better budget, etc. Since that won't happen, I suppose we should all be happy for a seventh season, but still.

I don't know that a half hour would make that much difference. It's a late night show. And the best there is. I agree with you guys about its treatment by AS, but I think the air time ultimately makes no difference. This show has an incredible following, staying alive in small irregular doses over 13(? What year is it now?) years. The fandom has grown over time and continues to expand. The way I view it, VB gets shown on tv as a formal premiere, but it lives in digital viewing platforms and on home release discs. The Venturoos are generally obsessive and the fans will watch it whenever it's on. AS knows this and uses it to their advantage. I don't think D&J could handle anymore than they already do. It certainly takes a lot out of them and they've been given a greater amount of support in recent years, but from what I've seen, they're sort of at their limit. I do wish the series were longer than 8 eps plus "specials" of late, though. Hard to believe two days from now we'll be left Ventureless again for so long.

- 21's kidnapping strategy is definitely based on real serial killers like Bundy as mentioned, and the movies already mentioned. It is also a reference to the film "The Vanishing" with Jeff Bridges, which is based on real killers. Bridges' character wears an arm cast, lures a woman to his car and knocks her out with ether. Then he drives to the woods and buries her alive. This mirrors 21's actions perfectly.
- Wide Wale blows smoke out of his blowhole at the end.

- 21 and the Monarch internationally use the eclipse to time everything within their plan easily and perfectly. Hence why the selfie and the call had to be during the eclipse.
- What would the Monarch have done if Dr. Mrs. had actually killed Venture? Would he have found out and gone totally fucking nuts it was by her hand and not his own?
- Dr. Assface does indeed have ads in the subway car the Monarch is riding in. Also, an ad for a shoe is briefly seen that reads: Eat Dust. Generic coffee, water, headphones, marathons, wifi zones, and recycling ads can also be seen in the subway cars.
- The paper the older man is reading in the subway is about someone being dead at 45 on the front. And a younger man is reading a magazine that looks like the same one the Monarch later holds.
- It'd probably be pretty easy to fall out of the Blue Morpho Mobile if your not wearing a seatbelt while flying.
- Is this the first time the Monarch pulls out a handgun just to intimidate someone? I think so, maybe. This could be an allusion to Bond villains and films.
- The Monarch is seen reading Pleeb magazine. Dark Matters is on the cover. Cover tagline: They're all gonna laugh at you, so have the last laugh. Presumably this is a scientist tragically made-up of dark matter after an accident occurred. Hmm, possibly a season seven character? Also, the tagline font is so small... only insane fans would ever notice it. Yas, I'm insane.
- Instant karma gets Billy in this episode, he's collapsing and puking in no time from the copious amounts of rum,
- Dr. Buttbutt was voiced by Paul Tompkins, he is also the voice of the Blue Morpho. So, it almost sounded like the Monarch had his father tied up while he tortured Dr. Bootydooty.
- Presumably, Dr. Mrs. takes the shot b/c she is basically #1 on the council... even though they are intended to be equals.
- I like to pretend Helper has been staring at that light all season long. It explains his absence later in the season. It's basically the exact same red PROBLEM light from episode three of season one. Well, episode three if you count the pilot. And I do.
- Speaking of absence... I'm really missing all the old characters who got cut in the new season.
- White holds Billy's tie while he vomits into the toilet.
- Dean is reading a book titled; "The Gay Science" at the very end of the episode. The shot is fast and the cover is upside down... but that's definitely what it reads.
- Brock is yet again seen enjoying being tied up. Brock certainly became kinky this season. He loves being pegged and tied up now. He and Warriana probably engage in seriously sadomasochistic sex acts off screen.
- The Monarch's final line of dialogue certainly feels like it was intended to be the closing line of the season.
