An Evening With Jackson Publick at MoCCA

If you're in the New York City area around April 22nd consider heading over to The Museum of Comic & Cartoon Art for an event featuring Jackson Publick. It's at 7pm and admission is $5 (or free if you're a member). Aside from scenes from the show you'll get to hear Jackson's thoughts on the evolution of The Venture Bros. over the years as well as an audience Q&A at the end. Thanks to The Venture Bros. Anyone else from the Philly area crazy enough to think about making a trip up there? My car is old and filthy, but it could make it.

Damn, my birthdays the day after, and my fathers that day. Would definetly by the chillest way to celebrate our bdays in a while.

Question: Could anyone who's going do this Venture aficionado a huge favor and ask Jackson a single question: Will we learn who killed 24 this season? Would be greatly, greatly appreciated

Really appreciated man, thanks.

...and proceeded to unbuckle himself and walk out of the car that detonated behind him. Someone had to.

..... I also think if it was the Pupae Twins that they'd have been more direct about it and enjoyed it more. They're agressive, warped little thrill-killers.

Right.... but buckling up put him right next to the car when Helper exploded.

I know there's this whole big conspiracy theory about who set off the explosion, but...it could be a timer or GPS trigger or all kinds of other things. Remember.... these people live to fuck with us and make us think there's more story than there is. "Oh wow, Sgt. Hatred was in OSI?" Yeah he was, but it's essentially irrellivant. The whole Dean is dead mini-hoax. They've done it to us numerous times. We get all dorky and worked up over pointless details or for a payout that never comes ("Monarch, I'm..."). I both love them and hate them for it.

I'm calling this as he was just killed by misguided and deeply embeded safety habits. Maybe I'm wrong.

(my spelling is wretched tonight... long shift)

I still maintain he's not dead. The skull belongs to one of the many other henchmen we saw get decapitated in the battle, and 21 went crazy and is hallucinating seeing and hearing 24. Henchman 24 is either in hiding (the hand checking off The Ventures on the list) or is in the custody of the OSI. As far as the bomb going off, if it wasn't the twins, it was just a faulty wiring job on the bomb probably. Come on. It was made and installed on Helper by Monarch henchman!

I'll be going. I have a feeling that MoCCA doesn't allow cameras into these things, so I don't I'll be recording/uploading footage of it for all of you like I have done for every past NYCC Panel.

I will certainly share anything interesting that happens with you all of course.

The folks at MoCCA said they'd be uploading a video of the event in a week or so. Honestly, if I knew that I probably wouldn't have even made the trip. I just got home, it's about 1:30 AM, and I'm exhausted.

It sort of sucked. Jackson (and Doc!) were awesome, but the guy interviewing them was not so much. He kept showing really old sketches and asking questions about them. Jackson and Doc kept requesting to move on past that and the guy just didn't get the message. This was basically a live version of that Toyfare article from like a year ago.

Far and away the best part of the event was a collection of clips that were shown from upcoming episodes...I'll maybe write about that a bit tomorrow.

A couple things I remember from the clip reel.

Watch and Ward read to a new character and Professor Impossible a list of side effects to a drug that they want one to volunteer to take.

Black Mantle and Dragoon are called Kenan and Kel by General Treister. They complain that they don't like their code names.

Dr. Venture is talking to the boys about college and encouraging that they go to state school. Billy Quizboy is also present and when the boys leave the room he tells Doc that they are grossly underprepared for adult life. He also states he doesn't think they'll be able to find a school that takes transcripts from a bed.

There was some Hatred-Brock interaction. Brock tells the boys not to play football in the house and Hatred tells Brock "that's sort of my job now."

Oh, there's also a shirts vs. skins football game going on outside incorporating SPHINX and random folks from the compound. I don't remember much about the scene but it was sort of funny to see that Orpheus was playing and that he was on skins.

21 gives a presentation on a new super cool uniform for the henchmen which Dr. Girlfriend says seems to pricey. At that exact moment, Monarch flies in on a brand new glider a la Green Goblin.

Doc is frozen solid in some sort of coma. Monarch, believing he's frozen in fear takes him on his glider.

We see a scene I assume that takes place in Dr. Venture's mind. Where he as a child commands Billy Quizboy and Pete White, dressed as love and death respectively to kiss. They don't want to. Dr. Orpheus is there too. Theory: Orpheus is astral projecting into Doc's mind while he's in that coma thing.

There were a bunch more clips, but these stuck out to me.

10 months is about average for most productions. South Park just has a really fast turnaround due to the software they use and the fact that almost everything happens in one building. Most shows have a place for storyboarding/writing, another for voice recording, then have the bulk of the animation done somewhere else (usually overseas). After they get that back, they check it for animation errors, any of which are sent back for redoing. Then they score and foley the episode, edit it down for time and any content issues before finally being finished.

April Fools! I learned so much on the website. I had no idea mantids were so awesome; although ghost mantis creeps me out. Also was warned that "mantidies are our lords and masters" and "there is no stopping them" and "recommend buying a flame thrower"...this is all good to know ahead of time. Lisa is a prophet!

Lets help Mike keep the notes section of each episode's page as complete as possible. There are lots of references that are not included on those pages; point out what should be added so Mike can add it!
